Ding fucking Dong!

What a lovely, if emotional watch.

Favourite bits:

Bridget getting her diary and pen out again and the film “truly” starting.

“Modern Love” dance with the kids.

Flash backs to Mark.

Cleaver remembering he has an estranged son and making contact.

🤣🤣 Tesco meal deal faux pas

🤣🤣🤣 “I had the most amazing sex” in front of a studio audience

Daniel and Bridget’s relationship now.

🥲🥲🥲 Bridget’s dad in his last days.

🥲🥲 Bridget realising that the relationship with Roxter cannot continue

🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 “I’ll do anything”

Please let's not revisit the heated Easter Egg discussion!

I haven’t said anything heated I don’t think? @TeaRoseTallulah asked where the term came from. Apologies.

I felt more sad watching it than I'd thought I would - but I think a lot of us have, like Bridget, gone through various losses and changes since our 20s so it resonated.

Seem it today

this sums it up for me . Definitely worth a watch

Phase2 · 27/02/2025 18:06

@Salacia no not you! Just earlier it all got a bit weird!

sammylady37 · 28/02/2025 08:43

Went to see it for the second time yesterday. Perhaps all the easter egg discussion had me over-thinking, but did anyone think there were some nods to Love Actually in it? The young guy turning up with pie (Kiera Knightly brings banoffee pie in LA), at the beginning Bridget dances across the room similar to the High Grant dance in LA, and when Hugh Grant is in hospital and he gives the speech about how she is in fact the only one in his life he could call, it reminded me of the speech the aging rockstar (can’t recall his name!) in LA made to his manager on Christmas Eve.

With three of the major actors being in both films, it makes sense I guess.

BellissimoGecko · 28/02/2025 09:13

Overall, I loved the film. I thought it dealt well with loss and grief - and who in the audience hasn't suffered loss, at our ages?

Bits I didn't like:

RZ's facial expressions and weird lips. OMG. Found them totally off-putting.

And why does RZ walk/run like that, in that pathetic 'girly' way?

Why is she still so disorganised that she can't adult properly, get her kids ready for school or cook pasta, yet can walk back into her producer job??

The school trip: as if school kids would be allowed to stay in a tumbledown barn with no loos or running water!!

She lied to Roxster about her age. Not good.

I did love all the friends bits and Emma Thompson. And the music!

BellissimoGecko · 28/02/2025 09:16

What was the point of the owl? Did Colin C Firth like owls? Are owls associated with loss? That was odd and not in keeping with the rest of the film.

And the balloon release - noooooo! I can imagine thousands of people being inspired to do the same. Terrible for the environment.

LindorDoubleChoc · 28/02/2025 10:55

The owl and the school trip were among the bits of silliness I mentioned earlier that just made me tut and roll my eyes and thus spoil my engagement with the film. The other biggest bit of silliness was the teacher and his whistel! How stupid, how embarrassing, that would never ever happen in real life.

There was a shot of them singing on the coach on the way to the school trip which had at the max 10 children in it. Whereas the group as a whole was about 30 when they got there. And they would never have all fitted on that mini-bus that departed from the school anyway. Yeah, and who takes primary school kids from London all the way to the Lake District?

These things do grate, even though we know it's not real life. It lends weight to the argument that this is an easily dismissed "lightweight" film for the ladies, which is so unnecessary.

The owl was looking over the children and meant to be a sign from Mark.

BellissimoGecko · 28/02/2025 11:39

But that's what I mean, @OctoberandApril - why? Why an owl? Are they associated with loss? Did Colin Firth like owls?

And why did it bugger off when Bridget found another man? Would have been better if she had found happiness by herself.

That was totally out of place.

Yeah, suspension of disbelief had to work extra-hard there.

I've just googled and apparently in some cultures owls are associated with loss. It mentions Native America.

BellissimoGecko · 28/02/2025 12:17

But not north London. Collin Firth was not an American Indian.

I'm just trying to find some reason 😂. I know some people who think Robins are loved ones. I don't personally.

I didn't question the owl though. I thought it was quite sweet.

I did question her facial expressions and walk quite a bit.

I can completely see a private school taking kids to the Lake District

The owl means what you want.
I thought it was crap.

Are we not allowed to talk about the owl as well as the Easter eggs?

Grin people just seemed so cross about Easter eggs

Scorpion84 · 28/02/2025 18:07

I must be thick as I completely missed the Easter eggs ?!🤣

TeaRoseTallulah · 28/02/2025 20:00

I thought the owl was lovely ...I'll get my coat.

Eaumyword · 28/02/2025 20:33

Me too @TeaRoseTallulah!

Did anyone else wonder where Shazza and the other mates kids and partners had gone. They were featured in Bridget jones baby but no sign in this one. Now even at the New Year’s party. I don’t think they were even mentioned unless I missed something.

also there could have been a mention of jack even if it was a reference to him as they all seemed to be good mates at the end of the last film

Yes! I was waiting for Jude to mention Vile Richard.

AliTheMinx · 01/03/2025 08:41

I loooooove Bridget, but have mixed feelings about this film. I cried a lot and thought it dealt with death/widowhood/grief very well.

Loved RZ as goofy Bridget - just like in the first film, and loved HG - the ultimate cad. The scenes with Bridget's dad were very moving and there were also some real laugh out loud moments. Shazza and Emma Thompson were wonderful. The scenes with Colin Firth were also very tear-jerking. Loved the balloon scene.

However, the owl was awful and I really didn't buy the chemistry with her and the teacher. That seemed contrived. Jude and Tom were pretty scary - thank God for Shazza!

HeyIAmGlidingHere · 01/03/2025 09:45

A OWL! A owl. A OWL!

Phone shop references aside, it'll be like The Queen or Three Billboards with the deer.
To paraphrase Frances then, "You ain't him!"
