Ding fucking Dong!

What a lovely, if emotional watch.

Favourite bits:

Bridget getting her diary and pen out again and the film “truly” starting.

“Modern Love” dance with the kids.

Flash backs to Mark.

Cleaver remembering he has an estranged son and making contact.

🤣🤣 Tesco meal deal faux pas

🤣🤣🤣 “I had the most amazing sex” in front of a studio audience

Daniel and Bridget’s relationship now.

🥲🥲🥲 Bridget’s dad in his last days.

🥲🥲 Bridget realising that the relationship with Roxter cannot continue

🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 “I’ll do anything”

Why was she walking around with her eyes almost closed for large parts of the film? Also the very strange walk she was doing?

That's her real life face! Too much surgery I think, she looked much better in the first one.

If you Google her a few years ago, her eyes look completely different like she's had surgery and now they look like they did before , very odd.

I think the blue cocktails were maybe a reference to the blue soup she made at her dinner party, in the first film?

I loved this final outing (they've made that clear) for Bridget. Funny, sad and heartwarming. The little girl was so cute, and both kids acted brilliantly. And Bridget got a happy ending, in spite of the tragedy of the death of Mark. I do get the feeling that a lot of scenes might have been cut from the final version though. Like she'd just begun a relationship with the teacher and then suddenly a year has gone by? But overall it was very enjoyable.

Agree the rhythm was a bit off for me at times too like chunks were taking out. Maybe they needed to lose the family stuff to make it more of a love triangle and keep the big stars scenes in. That’s where it maybe went a little wrong. I still think Isla fisher was cut out but they’d announced her already but that was probably the right decision creatively. It’s the kind of film that would have been run by test audiences. For us the main disappointment was not to see more of Jemma Jones as she’s an important character who probably wouldn’t have won over the American and young test audiences as much as the stars. Would have loved to see her as a granny ! But I still loved it so much and am going again and hoping for a directors cut soon to see if I’m right about any of the above! 😂

My Mom has dropping eyelids and had surgery because they started affecting her vision.

They have come back over time.

That's really interesting,I didn't realise that could happen.

Yes but we all looked better in 2001 I suppose.

I’d have loved to see a scene of Bridget and her mum reflecting on widowhood - her mum telling her how proud she is of her to wrap up that relationship. I might have forgotten something but all her mum did was criticise her for going back to work, struggle to take a photo of Bridget and her Dad and attend a party? Would have been much more interesting to me than an extended scene of the love interest jumping into what was surely a very shallow fountain to rescue a dog that clearly didn’t need saving or a cheesy Diet Coke advert moment.

There was a lovey poignant but still funny film in there that got trapped by the need to make it a conventional rom com and still have it all about ending up with a man.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 25/02/2025 11:46

I guarantee if I was stuck up a tree the chances of being rescued by not just one available attractive man but 2 is nil. This is what grated slightly.

TheaBrandt1 · 25/02/2025 12:07

It’s not supposed to be like real life documentary! It’s a fictional film!! Dear me don’t know how some people operate on a daily basis!

But all of the Bridget Jones films were about getting a man.

But all of the Bridget Jones films were about getting a man.

I know, but we had multiple films about her and Mark Darcy. Then he’s dead, here’s a toy boy, here’s another bloke for a romantic scene in the snow so she doesn’t end the film single. I would have preferred it if it had ended with her happy on her own, maybe a shot of a flirty smile with the teacher at the concert to indicate that she’s moved on from Darcy but she’s finally secure in her own skin. Would have been a nice place to leave the series. Especially as it seemed to have a bit more depth to the first three films with the exploration of grief that I thought was really well done. Different strokes though - would be boring if we all wanted the same!

Rugbyrover · 25/02/2025 14:24

I worried that Roxster was going to be Daniel's son 😃

That was my first thought !!
Went to see it on recommendation and was glad I did. The owl just killed me though - it was so quiet in the cinema too and I just wanted to howl. In fact I cried every time Colin Firth came on. 😂

The walk was always part of the character!

I was tempted to go see it again on an extended lunch break today 😊

I saw it again this morning which felt very indulgent. Can't believe some of the comments on this thread, it is a lovely film and I'll probably watch it again when it comes on sky / Netflix etc

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/02/2025 22:06

Renee Z looks much more like her real self again than she did after that terrible plastic surgery about 10 years ago.

I mostly enjoyed this chapter in her story and felt the same "time marches on" sweetness and nostalgia as others have expressed on this thread, and the laugh out loud moments were truly very funny. But in the end the silliness of it all, and the cliches, and the stretching of credulity were just too much for me. Overall, a bit cringe.

I hated the balloon bit too - I was just thinking ‘pollution!’ so I didn’t find it at all moving.

I was moaning about the balloons too!

Really enjoyed it though. I don't think the love interests were great casting. But I suspended belief a fair bit and had a few laughs and tears. Dcs were fab as was Emma Thompson.

I disagree with previous pp and think the dcs would probably have been spark out after hiking and all the fresh air. We're regularly in the lakes so enjoyed that bit too. Dgss are out of it when we take them hiking.

I'll watch again in a few months to spot the Easter eggs.

TeaRoseTallulah · 27/02/2025 08:47

I totally missed the Easter eggs, can someone fill me in please?

I'm seeing it again,I'll take a huge box of tissues this time!

It's not literal Easter eggs.

It means when references are included in a film that hark back to other films.

For example, Roxster coming out of the swimming pool with a wet shirt on was a clear reference to Colin Firth playing Mr. Darcy in one of the Pride & Prejudice films.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zcts46f

It originally came from a video game where a developer hid credits around the game that you could find if you were in the know (like a virtual Easter egg hunt). It’s now spilled over into all media where there’s a nod to previous films, other works etc. For example, the blue cocktails. If you haven’t seen the first Bridget Jones film they might not be memorable/stand out to you (or wonder why they’ve made that choice when they’d be more likely to have a glass of wine etc) but if you have then you’ll likely recognise them as a reference to the blue soup.

TeaRoseTallulah · 27/02/2025 10:41

Thank you! Yes, got the blue cocktail reference and Rockstar in the pool.
