I've seen loads of posts today about Sinister being the scariest film ever.

Pffft. I watched Meghan is Missing this week, now traumatised.

And I can't ever erase The Green Inferno from my brain.

What are your worst?

Scream when I was 15. Never been able to gontonancinema toilet without freaking out again 😆
I'm now 40....

I love love love Scream but i have a friend who will never live in a house without close neighbours after seeing the Casey Becker scene.

ladyvimes · 13/04/2024 20:18

I love horror movies and don’t get easily scared after. I loved Banshee, but thought it was funny rather than scary!
The only one that has stuck with me was The Ring. Watched it as a teen and couldn’t be by myself for days after!

@MariMariaVT65 not just me that was traumatised then 🤣🤣

Horror films don't scare me and I think it's because I've watched extreme horror films in the past, the worst one for me by far is a French film called irreversible and I'd never watch it again. There's a rape scene that goes on for about 13/14 minutes and it's one shot with the camera on the floor so there's no escape, after seeing that I went into a depressive state for about 2 weeks it was horrendous. Now I'm so desensitised that horror doesn't scare me although I like watching them and watch one every night before bed. I used to find decent scary and creep (the London Underground one)

Soubriquet · 13/04/2024 20:25

I keep seeing A Serbian film being the worst film to watch. I half want to watch it, but after reading the wiki, I mostly don’t.

Marchbug · 13/04/2024 20:28

Wolf Creek. Horrific. But even more horrific when you're watching it as movie night in a tent in an Australian Backpackers hostel. Will never forget the fear!

bingoringo4 · 13/04/2024 20:28

@Soubriquet yeah stay away from that one. Especially if you have kids 🤦🏻‍♀️

Marchintospring · 13/04/2024 20:50

I think horror is supposed to be scary weird rather than " horrible".

Saw and the rest of the gory genre isn't really imaginative enough. You know some nasty bastard somewhere in the world has done whatever you are watching. I remember Radio 4 talking to a woman who had her arm chopped off and something disgusting ( I'll not repeat it here) done with it. Yes it's stayed with me but that actually happened. I'm not interested in some twatty film writer making up that crap.

I think some of the Doctor Who's are quite affecting.

Film wise I find Silent Hill disturbing. I also like The Others for the concept . Her husband back from the war ( his love for them or her life for him ?) but ultimately that's where his heart and soul wants to return to.

SOxon · 13/04/2024 20:53

Don’t Look Now

Marchintospring · 13/04/2024 20:55

The Ring is fantastic . Either version.
Love to know why the child is actually relentless..

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 13/04/2024 21:14

The House that Jack Built. There's a particular scene where some of the characters are having a picnic, which just haunts me.

It's also just not a very good film so... 100% do not recommend.

Don’t go to sleep with Valerie Harper.
Watched it 40 years ago, on my own. Never seen it since.

I hadn't heard of this one. I adored Valerie Harper as Rhoda and haven't seen her in anything non comedy.

It seems the whole movie (Which was made for TV) is on YouTube so am going to treat myself to some scary shit 😱👿

The Excorsist terrified me and The Devils too. Haven't seen many horror movies.

PitterPatter3 · 13/04/2024 21:16

Not strictly a horror film but that nasty public information film they used to show in schools about fatal farming accidents. The Apaches.

pastypirate · 13/04/2024 21:19

Hostel without a second thought. My then bf brought it over the watch and it disturbed me beyond anything I've ever seen.

Soubriquet · 13/04/2024 21:21

Have you read about the alternate ending for hostel?

The man running things appears on the train with the man’s who escaped daughter. Just to say you can never escape

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 13/04/2024 19:19

I couldn’t finish ‘Green Inferno’ - too horrific & upsetting. Ditto ‘I Spit on Your Grave’

’Wolf Creek’ is a fim I never want to see again.

’The Devils’ is shocking and utterly revolting, but I think it’s a good film.

I was coming on to say 'green inferno' and 'wolf's creek'. I wrote my dissertation on horror films so am not completely squeamish but for some reason there are bits of these two films that have stuck with me, and occasionally appear in dreams etc

PaperBauble · 13/04/2024 21:25

Slasher type films and rape/gore are not for me. But Ringu (The Ring original from 1998) scared me witless.
I was clearing my old flat a few years ago and found the old video with it on, was terrified all over again just seeing the box!

BouleDeSuif · 13/04/2024 21:25

@Nameymcnameface1 just started The Banshee Chapter. I'll let you know what I think!

Sparkle88K · 13/04/2024 21:26

All hallows Eve is the worst one for me.
The clown in it called the terrifier scares me so so much & I've always loved a good horror film.
I'll never watch it again. I think about it sometimes if I'm home alone at night & turn the lights on lol.

DrusillaL · 13/04/2024 21:26

Mother with Jennifer Lawrence. Worst ever.

Pantaloons99 · 13/04/2024 21:28

I forgot about Creep! 😭

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/04/2024 21:30

I walked out of the cinema twenty-five minutes or so into The Blair Witch Project. It was horrible, though not in the way I expect you meant. It was just terrible.

tangycheesythings · 13/04/2024 21:31

I also wish I'd never watched the Human Centipede, I'm not sure I even made it to the end. It's way too disturbing.

Some things you can never un-see. If you've never seen it, don't watch it

Soubriquet · 13/04/2024 21:32

Morbid curiosity really wants to let me watch human centipede but I can’t find it on any streaming.

tangycheesythings · 13/04/2024 21:32

honestly don't do it @Soubriquet !
