Love watching films that scare me!

It Follows, Hereditary and Antichrist all really scared me, found them very harrowing and they stayed with me for a long time afterwards. I think they just specifically tap into what I'm personally afraid of because my husband was not scared at all. All the mum guilt stuff and the fear of mental illness, then with It Follows- the responsibility and personal space and freedom issues.

I really loved the films Triangle and Creep even though they got bad reviews.
Love the films Martyrs and Switchblade Romance too.

PatPhoenix · 20/01/2019 23:13

The vanishing. More horror than creepy.

FiveStoryFire · 20/01/2019 23:13

The Ring

FiveStoryFire · 20/01/2019 23:13

Also Blair Witch!

Jorgezaunders · 20/01/2019 23:17

Ringu
Event horizon
The Exorcist

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/01/2019 23:19

Event Horizon terrified me. I watched it through my fingers.

The Others was chilling but heartbreaking.

There's a 1940s or 50s film called The Innocents with Deborah Kerr that's based on The Turn of the Screw and is genuinely scary.

Get Out is clever and fantastic.

Ribbonsonabox · 20/01/2019 23:20

Oooh I love Event Horizon!
That reminds me 'The Thing' is also a clasic
And Exorcist reminds me that 'Rosmarys Baby' and 'Dont Look Now' are classics

Nettletheelf · 20/01/2019 23:22

Without doubt, The Exorcist. God, it’s horrible. I watched it in my teens and would never watch it again!

The Ring is properly scary too, but not on the same level.

milkjetmum · 20/01/2019 23:22

I enjoyed the ritual recently, quite arty in some bits. Was scared driving through the wood in the dark a few days later!

Ribbonsonabox · 20/01/2019 23:24

The Exorcist just makes me really sad when I've watched it as an adult. When I watched it as a kid I just thought it was scary because it was gross with all the head turning and the vomitting. When I got the DVD as an adult much later it's really sad. Watching the horror of all the painful medical testing the child goes through and the terror and desperation of her mother. It made me cry.

Ginormarse · 20/01/2019 23:26

The descent. The babadouk.

Havalina · 20/01/2019 23:51

I loved creep and the ring, antichrist was good too. Funny games gives me nightmares, sinister was also very good.

LadyGAgain · 21/01/2019 06:40

Surely THAT moment in the Sixth Sense?

Hedwigsradio · 21/01/2019 06:44

The babadouk but that could be because I was really struggling at the time I was watching it with becoming a single mum. On the plus side it made me seek help.

The ring

Vhs2 I have no idea why it just gave me the creeps.

Hedwigsradio · 21/01/2019 06:44

Forgot about Creep that's a brilliant film.

wanderings · 21/01/2019 06:50

The Woman in Black: the old one from the 1990s, not the new one with Daniel Radcliffe (haven't seen that one).

AnyFucker · 21/01/2019 07:02

.

Believeitornot · 21/01/2019 07:06

Blair Witch
Jeepers creepers
I’m so bad with horror films. Can’t watch them at all!

Fluffiest · 21/01/2019 07:14

The Haunting - 60s version. So bloody tense!

Ghost Stories - newish film that's on Netflix is quite good. A paranormal de-bunker is sent three unsolvable cases to solve.

HesterShaw21 · 21/01/2019 07:23

Ring (the first movie in the Japanese trilogy, not the American version)

LoubyLou1234 · 21/01/2019 07:33

Original Ring trilogy and original Grudge. Recently watched Hell House which creeped me out. One of the found film footage types.

guessing · 21/01/2019 10:17

Thank you for all your responses! The ring was mentioned a lot so that'll be my pick for the weekend !

Watched 1922 on Netflix last night, I'd recommend that.

Also loved Hereditary, It Follows, VVitch for its trueness to folklore, Get Out was great, Unsane, Ghost Stories.

I really loved A Dark Song - not like any film I'd seen before.

Runningforcocktails · 21/01/2019 11:45

Not a film but you should watch American Horror Story on Netflix! Weird and scary!

gentlyscented · 21/01/2019 11:49

Irreversible (don't recommend it though, the rape scene is horrific)
Martyrs
I spit on your grave
Annabelle
The conjuring
