To think this is a rubbish film (warning: popular 80s movie slating!)

I have a confession that I'd never utter IRL. It has taken a lot of bravery for me to do this and I may well be excommunicated from MN:

I hate The Breakfast Club. Angsty teens get detention. Some snog at the end. That's it. Boring!! First time I saw it i was waiting for 'the good bit'. It never came.

AIBU? What popular film can you not stand?

OP posts:
MorelliOrRanger · 01/01/2015 16:05

Breakfast Club is fab.

homealone42 · 01/01/2015 16:06

yanbu. I found that one boring too. Give me maneqqin or Dirty Dancing anyday

AnotherGirlsParadise · 01/01/2015 16:18

The Goonies. Apparently saying I hate it puts me on a par with a sex offender, but I really do. It's just SO overrated.

Also Groundhog Day. And The Matrix. And anything Tolkien-based. And ANYTHING with Tom Fucking Cruise in it.

PuppyMonkey · 01/01/2015 16:27

Love Breakfast Club, but when I watched it recently I noticed my sympathies had shifted a bit to the teacher. Shock An age thing I think.

Also love Bueller. Bueller. Bueller.

I hate, however:

Brokeback Mountain
Blade Rubber
Inception and all the recent Batman films
Most Bond films but especially Skyfall
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
The Avengers thingy
Mary Poppins
Chitty Chitty bang bang

Inertia · 01/01/2015 16:50

Not 80s , but Les Miserables. 3 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

Frozenchipsareawful · 01/01/2015 16:50

Puppy, agree with most of your list. Hate James Bond films, but i didnt mind Skyfall.. Odd that. I prefer real life type films, mike leigh films are good but Dh prefers action films. Most 80s films were poor. Anything Marvel related leaves me cold.

PuppyMonkey · 01/01/2015 17:22

I did mean Blade Runner earlier Grin

digerd · 01/01/2015 17:33

Loved Lost Boys but then I am an avid vampire fan.
Loved Ghost - laughed, sobbed and was compelling viewing at the end.

OnlyLovers · 01/01/2015 17:34

Blade Rubber. Grin I like the sound of that. I like Blade Runner though, although I'm not a sci-fi person.

Mary Poppins, however, is a stone-cold masterpiece and you're just wrong if you don't think so.

GaryShitpeas · 01/01/2015 17:36

Ferris bueller is rubbish and agree with whoever said ferris himself is a dick of a character

I'm also not keen on ET. watched it with dc the other day and was quite weird and disturbing at times for a kids film and sooooo long Confused

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 01/01/2015 17:39

Utter garbage;

Dirty Dancing
Top Gun
Pretty in Pink
About last night
St Elmo's fire.
Days of Thunder - more so cos I hated Tom Cruises characters name Cole Trickle, stupid fucking name!
Waynes world - never understood the fuss about that.
Johnny Mnemonic - Wtf!
The Matrix
Grease

HittingABrickWall · 01/01/2015 17:40

(says in very quiet voice) I never liked Grease.

Acutally, I detest it.

Bettercallsaul1 · 01/01/2015 17:48

Tom Cruise did some pretty awful films in the eighties (accompanied quite often by Nicole Kidman).

GothMummy · 01/01/2015 17:49

YABU
Judd Nelson rocked :)

HolgerDanske · 01/01/2015 17:53

As regards Breakfast Club, i think it's like any cult young kids film - you have to be the right age when you first watch it, and at the right place in your life.

Same with any other big cult films - if you watched, say, the original Star Wars for the first time now, I bet you'd wonder what the fuss is all about, but if you were a kid at the time, you're probably nostalgic about it in that certain way.

drbonnieblossman · 01/01/2015 18:24

Pretty Woman. Big bag of poo.

Bogeyface · 01/01/2015 18:27

YY re age etc

I was the perfect age of TBC and so I loved. Same with Star Wars, when that was first released there had been nothing like it before, it was totally unique and groundbreaking.

Now with CGI etc its nothing special to look at, until you remember that all the space shots etc were done with models, not CGI so the time and effort involved if phenomenal.

Discopanda · 01/01/2015 18:28

Notting Hill was sh*t

Dowser · 01/01/2015 18:34

Loving this thread. Soooo funny.

Some ive liked. Some I've hated. Some I've never seen.

I don't know if we are supposed to be sticking to one decade but it shows how I'll I was the other day and we watched ZULU. My gawd, what a pile of crap! Why the heck someone hasn't set fire to it so its not inflicted on us any more I don't know .

But Eyes Wide Shut...that's just in a league of its own. What on earth possessed Kidman and cruise!!! Their poor kids ! As for the plot. Let's just say a couple of hours I'll never get back.

Some films are just what they are, love actually, grease, dirty dancing, pretty woman etc but those Dreadful Hugh grant films. Same goes for some of the Julia Roberts films. I used to feel quite sorry for her....the runaway bride. I mean!

MsFeckIt · 01/01/2015 18:38

Another vote here for dirty dancing being a pile of steaming turd. Apart from antiny else, I could never understand how any parent could in all seriousness name their child 'Baby'. FFS. Plus she can't dance. So there's that.
Star Wars is bloody fantastic though.

FollowTheStarship · 01/01/2015 18:38

God yes Dirty Dancing! I never got the point of it but I thought it was just me! Their relationship is just ewwww and she's called "Baby"

I've always hated it and found him revolting.

MsFeckIt · 01/01/2015 18:39

*anything. Idiot phone

FollowTheStarship · 01/01/2015 18:40

x-post feckit! :o It's her nickname I think, but still. I remember the first time I saw it at some teenage sleepover type situation, everyone else was lusting after boaktastic Johnny while I was spending the whole time thinking "why is she called BABY???"

MsFeckIt · 01/01/2015 18:46

Hah! I was thinking exactly the same thing! And getting irritated with her stupid whiny voice.

Allyblaster · 01/01/2015 18:47

Ferris Bueller = total cack.
