To think this is a rubbish film (warning: popular 80s movie slating!)

I have a confession that I'd never utter IRL. It has taken a lot of bravery for me to do this and I may well be excommunicated from MN:

I hate The Breakfast Club. Angsty teens get detention. Some snog at the end. That's it. Boring!! First time I saw it i was waiting for 'the good bit'. It never came.

AIBU? What popular film can you not stand?

Overrated:

American Beauty
Shawshank Redemption
Inception
Twelve Years a Slave
All of Paul Thomas Anderson's films
Lord of the Fucking Never-ending Rings. And the Hobbit money-making machine.

I love The Lost Boys and Lost in Translation, though.

Ferris was a little dick who needs a good punch.

I felt so bad for his friend (Cameron?). And his sister. And pretty much anyone who ever had to deal with him.

OhDeanna · 31/12/2014 18:24

Ghost. Biggest pile of shite in the world. Ever.

I hate Demi Moore.

Pretty in Pink was also dire. And that dress that she made herself at the end? Vile.

MrsRhettButler · 31/12/2014 18:26

The Breakfast Club is shit!
Dirty Dancing on the other hand is amazing and you all need to go and wash your mouths out right now!

steff13 · 31/12/2014 18:26

Inception

My husband and I saw this in the theater, and he thought it was brilliant. I, however, had pregnancy brain, and the man sitting in front of me looked uncannily like the Crypt Keeper, so that was all I could think about during the entire movie. He swears if I watch it now I will love it, but I'm skeptical.

IsabellaofFrance · 31/12/2014 18:32

I hate Grease with a burning passion. The film upsets me so much I can't listen to any of the songs.

imonkey · 31/12/2014 18:33

Yes London mannequin is great! I used to like The Goonies but now it annoys me

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 31/12/2014 18:40

All of the 80s was shit for mainstream cinema films apart from The Lost Boys, Ruthless People and Prizzi's Honour.

fascicle · 31/12/2014 18:42

I'm glad your treacherous thread took a lot of bravery, OP. I wrongly guessed this thread would be about Dirty Dancing. The Breakfast Club is practically a seminal work!

Still makes me smile:

I've got a question. Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?

IdaSaw3BlankenshipsGoSailingBy · 31/12/2014 18:44

Those of you who don't like The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink are just wrong, wrong, wrong. They are in fact the best movies that were ever made in the whole world ever (to my 12 year old self) Grin

Wantsunshine · 31/12/2014 18:47

I went to school where they filmed the breakfast club and I think it's shit too ??

Hatespiders · 31/12/2014 18:48

Bloody 'Braveheart'. It's so far from accurate it's a farce. And Mel Gibson so reminds me of Russ Abbott in a kilt he makes me giggle.

helenenemo · 31/12/2014 18:48

Top Gun is the worst film ever. And Cocktail. And St Elmos Fire.

I LOVE the Breakfast Club but it annoys me in the way that it's main theme is about breaking down stereotypes which is what happens as they become friends, however at the end the nerdy "brain" is left on his own to finish the homework whilst the cool rebel lad gets off with the pretty teen "princess" and the cool sporty lad gets off with the wierd girl after she's had a pretty makeover! Hardly a stretch of the imagination Grin.

worriedmum100 · 31/12/2014 18:51

Not an 80s film but I detest The English Patient. I also hate Seven and Vanilla Sky. According to film buffs of my close aquaintance this makes me a philistine.. ..

ILovedYouYesterday · 31/12/2014 18:52

I agree OP and I watched St Elmo's Fire for the first time this year and thought it was a load of bollux too although Andrew Whatsisname was adorable!

steff13 · 31/12/2014 18:53

Vanilla Sky is bad, but Seven is great.

ILovedYouYesterday · 31/12/2014 18:53

Oh and I really don't get the fuss about Breakfast at Tiffanys either!

Wantsunshine · 31/12/2014 18:53

It's new trier high school in winnetka and the school was really like I'm the film with different groups jocks, nerds, hippies, theatre kids ??

WowserBowser · 31/12/2014 18:54

The Notebook
Taken

ghostyslovesheep · 31/12/2014 18:54

Titanic - biggest pile of rats wank ever

SacredHeart · 31/12/2014 18:55

I hate grease, with a passion.

HopeClearwater · 31/12/2014 18:55

Pretty Woman was shite and peddled all kind of sexist crap.

Seven was a nasty piece of work, which didn't resolve properly, forgot it was about all seven deadly sins half way through and had a totally disgusting gratuitous bit in it where the prostitute suffered more for 'lust' than the bloke buying her. Horrible film which should never have been made.

Beelliesebub · 31/12/2014 18:57

I despise and detest 'Groundhog Day' with a passion.... A total waste of my life bothering to watch it! Xmas Blush
