To think this is a rubbish film (warning: popular 80s movie slating!)

I have a confession that I'd never utter IRL. It has taken a lot of bravery for me to do this and I may well be excommunicated from MN:

I hate The Breakfast Club. Angsty teens get detention. Some snog at the end. That's it. Boring!! First time I saw it i was waiting for 'the good bit'. It never came.

AIBU? What popular film can you not stand?

I have not seen all of Dirty Dancing, and feel no urge to do so. To some people, this is shocking and makes me not a proper woman. Meh.

Pasithea · 31/12/2014 23:18

Loved Gregory's girl
Breakfast at tiffanys
Brief encounter
The day they gave babies away

Hated DD or anything with Patrick swayzee in it
Hated Tom Cruise

JoanJettPack · 31/12/2014 23:21

I detest Pretty Fucking Woman. Load of old shite.

Bettercallsaul1 · 31/12/2014 23:21

Not sure if this counts as released in 1990, but Days of Thunder was BAD! Even worse than Top Gun, IMHO.

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 31/12/2014 23:27

myleftfoot - I beg to differ.... where Withnail and I is concerned tripe was my cleanest word... not that they were concerned with limiting swearing in the film any shape or form.

People of my acquaintance who actually like it quote from it ad bloody infinitum (the only funny line being "I feel like a pig shat in my head") and are also invariably the same people who quote Monty Python the fuckers

LiviaDruscillaAugusta · 31/12/2014 23:28

Am Shock at the comments about Highlander and Breakfast Club!

Agree totally about Dirty Dancing though - I tried to watch it once, got five mins into it and turned it off!

Hate romantic comedies too - haven't ever seen one I liked!

KatieKaye · 31/12/2014 23:30

Dirty Dancing is dire. Really dire.

tilliebob · 31/12/2014 23:32

I'm not a huge fan of the Breakfast Club either and I was a teen in the 80's so ner ner. I love Weird Science, FB's Day Off and of course the totally cheestastic Mannequin GrinGrin

MyIronLung · 31/12/2014 23:37

Mystic pizza was awesome. I now refuse to watch it in case it ends up being a bit wanky.
Say anything was also fab.

Yes thats true nolonget, you do end up quoting it at every opportunity. "You want working on boy", "We demand the finest wine available to humanity" and "perfumed ponce" get used a lot here. Makes me smile just thinking about it Grin

myleftfoot · 31/12/2014 23:44

That should have been an r in your username, not a t. I apologise Blush

Rainicorn · 31/12/2014 23:48

I've never seen Breakfast Club

Crap film include Dirty Dancing, anything with Tom Cruise and Mama Mia.

Sudename · 31/12/2014 23:52

Far and Away with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman and god awful Oirish accents.
I detest The Breakfast Club yet love St Elmos Fire. I also hated Pretty Woman, Mannequin, loved Ghost, Lost Boys, Groundhog Day

I will never stop loving the Breakfast club (rebellious teenager finds spiritual home in Judd Nelson).

Dirty Dancing I can see as total tripe, but Patrick Swayzee turns it into re-watchable for me.

FB's day off I never saw as a young person, watched it for the first time in my 30's and got a ride home from the party in a sports car. Got it then, but wouldn't have got it any earlier...

teapuddles · 01/01/2015 00:43

Grease, the most unattractive supporting cast of all time.

alseb · 01/01/2015 01:04

The Blues Brothers - adored by DH but hated by me.
Out of Africa is just wonderful.
Just finished watching Maleficent (I appreciate not 1980's) and I loved it.

Lifesalemon · 01/01/2015 01:07

Absolutely loving cruikshanks description of patrick Swayze Grin
I knew there was something funny about him but couldn't place what so thanks for putting it into words in such a wonderfully poetic way

gooeycookie · 01/01/2015 01:42

Not 80s I know, but Avatar.
Just what the fucking fuckery was that?
I turned it off with 30 minutes left right around the time they were chanting over Sigourney Weaver's body I actually felt like James Cameron was zapping my life away...
Thought Titanic was the most romantic film of all time at 16, watched recently for the first time in ages. It's awful! Grin

LoisHatesChristmas · 01/01/2015 02:06

I hate Dirty Dancing. Yeah I said it! You heard correctly! Hate it!

SomethingOnce · 01/01/2015 03:13

Dirty Dancing is shit though - Swayze looks like a fucking permanently confused paedophile horse

Oh, too funny! He so does!

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 01/01/2015 15:51

Arf at Swayze the peasophile horse! DD is shit and the dancing was meh. "I carried a watermelon". Are we supposed to find that funny?

I loved the Breakfast Club and Judd Nelson, though he has not aged well.
Hated Pretty In Pink, St Elmos Fire, Mannequin, Ghost, Dirty Dancing and Footloose. In fact, most other 80s films.
