What's the worst film you ever manage to live through?

Currently have Sweeney Todd on.

OK so i might not manage to actually live through it which makes me subject title a bit misleading but I've succeeded in keeping it on for over 19 mins purely because I've so far been shocked ridged that a film the cast it has can be so so very awful.

Not sure awful even does it justice

Damage (or was it Damaged?) with Jeremy Irons and Julie Binoche.

Maybe Baby with Hugh Laurie and one of the younger Richardsons, written by Ben Elton. Cringingly shudderingly shockingly awful.

strandednomore · 09/01/2011 20:14

To all of you who have voted for SATC2 (and there seem to be a few of you) - what did you expect? After all, SATC the TV show was so dreadful, the films weren't going to be any good were they? Wild horses wouldn't have dragged me to the cinema to watch a SATC film....

QODneystones · 09/01/2011 20:25

The Happening.... I mean really - swishy grass?

I sat down to watch ALvin... the squeakwill - total pish.

Get him to the Greek - i watched on a plane and all films started at same time so had to sit thru it - it was ok..... but shat.

Whats that - oh the emporium? wonderful? we did pay per view and turned it off 15 mins in.

Lizzabadger · 09/01/2011 20:27

A dreadful film with SJP and Hugh Grant going into a witness protection programme. Cringey acting, cheesy plot.

doublechocchip · 09/01/2011 20:28

strandednomore- nooooo the tv series was fab, quick witted, funny, different. Then the first movie was good too, not as good as the series but a more 'diluted' version of them. Made for easy watching.
The second did not, was embarassing for them and the audience!

Cloudbase · 09/01/2011 20:28

I also hated The English Patient, in fact my friend and I walked out halfway through. I don't like Ralph Fiennes anyway, but honestly...

"what is this called" as he delicately strokes the hollow at the base of Kristin Scott Thomas' throat. Yuk! Also:-

Salt (fascinated by AJ but awful film)
Did you hear about the Morgans? (surely the end of Hugh Grant's career)
Escape from New York
Clash of the Titans remake
Dirty Dancing (What was all the fuss about???)
Legends of the Fall ("You are my son" gurns Anthony Hopkins through a mouthful of cotton wool)

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/01/2011 20:33

Three To Tango is a shit film, but it did help get me and DH together; as many outings "just as friends", seeing this film which was unbelievably shite made us have to find other things to do, namely kissing on the back row.

The Kid is shocking - a disney film with Bruce Willis in it; it appears Disney try to ignore this film too

The Legend Of Baggar Vance was tiresome. DH calls it Baggar Pants

Brotherhood of the wolf is shite. I think it has subtitles too; so not only is the film bizarre and crap, you have to read the whole way through it.

I am not a lover of The Matrix, or Basic but mostly because I dont understand them.

With ref to SATC2, it isn't great; but it does have some funny scenes, and some particularly touching ones. Two scenes stick with me - Miranda and Charlotte talking about motherhood, and the scene where Charlotte locks herself in the kitchen pantry to have a good cry. The whole Carrie-Big-Aiden stuff is naff though. I did enjoy the first.

Re Twilight I am a sucker for Robert Pattinson, I watched Twilight and New Moon before I read the books, but now I do think they missed the ball one some transition from page to screen, there are some really nice parts of the books that are missed in the films. Eclipse is generally the best of the three films, but still only when viewed as films rather than book-to-film.

Another terrible film I've just remembered At Your Doorstep - shocking film, I was left traumatised by it.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/01/2011 20:37

Oh, and mamma Mia - at one point I begged DH, "make them stop"

LetThereBeRock · 09/01/2011 20:40

I quite liked 'Three To Tango',Blush

And what's wrong with subtitled films?

LetThereBeRock · 09/01/2011 20:42

I love Ralph Fiennes, and The English Patient. I knew it'd be mentioned at least once on this thread,as it's one of those love it or hate it films.

LetThereBeRock · 09/01/2011 20:45

Another few nominations.

Charlie's Angels.Surely someone must have mentioned it by now?

Ultraviolet

The Royal Tenebaums

About Schmidt

samels001 · 09/01/2011 20:45

Detested with all my heart and soul Fargo - what a waste of my time and I think it even got Oscars!

Pernickety · 09/01/2011 20:46

Dogma (with Matt Damon) stands out in my mind as a film I could not watch further than halfway through.

LetThereBeRock · 09/01/2011 20:52

So I'm not the only one who didn't like Fargo?

MoldyWarp · 09/01/2011 20:54

hmmm a lot of dissention over

magnolia (brilliant)
sweeney todd (entertaining)
moulin rouge (ditto)

seems you eithe love 'em or -not

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/01/2011 20:57

Subtitles on a film are okay. If the film is good.
When the film mainly consists of very bizarre plots and people being chased and murdered, and far too much action on the screen, subtitles not okay.

piprabbit · 09/01/2011 21:00

Meet the Parents
Meet the Fockers

Am looking forward to not seeing Little Fockers.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 09/01/2011 21:00

I will give you my two.
They are without doubt the worst films in the whole, entire universee.

Blues Brothers 2000
The miracle of the cards.

The first is so bad it is almost hypnotic.
The second is just the biggest load of mawkish, insulting bollocky cancertainment ever.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 09/01/2011 21:00

I meant universe but got a bit carried away.

piprabbit · 09/01/2011 21:08

Premonition was total shite, nasty, hard to follow, poorly plotted with lots of holes in at all and a completely shit ending.

gaelicsheep · 09/01/2011 21:12

A kid's film, but Cats and Dogs. Utter crap. Very Angry with DH for buying it for DS.

I'm not impressed by Happy Feet either. That Nicole Kidman again - very annoying film.

swanriver · 09/01/2011 21:20

I'm finding all my old favourites here! What a useful thread.
I loved About Schmidt

LetThereBeRock · 09/01/2011 21:23

'Subtitles on a film are okay. If the film is good.

Fair enough.Grin

LilBB · 09/01/2011 21:25

The royal tenenbaums, lots of dire horror films that I can't remember the names of and SATC.

Just watched the mark kermode review and now I definitely don't want to watch SATC2. Is the thing about trying to sexually liberate Middlesbrough eastern women really part of the plot? And the 'de-robing' of the burka clad women to find out they dress just like them? It sounds cringingly racist.

winnybella · 09/01/2011 21:26

Australia with Nicole Kidman. Omg. Worst movie ever made imo. She was soooo bad in it I was actually cringing for her.
