What's the worst film you ever manage to live through?

PureBloodMuggle · 07/01/2011 18:57

Currently have Sweeney Todd on.

OK so i might not manage to actually live through it which makes me subject title a bit misleading but I've succeeded in keeping it on for over 19 mins purely because I've so far been shocked ridged that a film the cast it has can be so so very awful.

Not sure awful even does it justice

As annoying as a teenage Anakin undoubtedly is and despite how badly wossname acted the part, he's still nowhere near as annoying as Jar-Jar sodding Binks.

gaelicsheep · 11/01/2011 00:28

I've remembered my worst ever. Star Wars, the original. Dreadful IMO, apart from Darth Vader.

Frizzbonce · 11/01/2011 00:48

Sextet starring Mae West when she was about 80, as a sexy young bride about to marry Timothy Dalton (who must have had a fucking huge tax bill which can be the ONLY reason he agreed to this). Anyway Mae simpers as loads of men including Tony Curtis (keep up!) all try to get off with her ( I swear there was vaseline smeared on the camera lens) and at one point actually dances round Timothy singing: Love will Keep Us Together.

Oh the horror. I was on my own and felt myself going red with embarrassment.

Deciduousblonde · 11/01/2011 01:28

Frizzbonce, I am so intrigued by the idea of that movie I might have to try and see it Grin

It looks like it could be mildly amusing whilst DH watches 'Wheeler Dealers'

Frizzbonce · 11/01/2011 22:11

Deciduousblonde you will go red and cringe!

The most dreadful thing is that Mae does look great for 80 but she is . . .80! And looks as though she's been dipped in formaldehyde and sewn into a corset made from underground cables. The scene where she cavorts through a men's gym 'singing' 'You're Sixteen, You're Beautiful and You're Mine' had me gawping in horrified fascination.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 12/01/2011 09:57

Sextette.

I thought you might be exaggerating, or possibly hallucinating, but no.

ChickFlit · 12/01/2011 14:44

I was so intrigued Frizzbonce I had to look on Youtube, it's hilarious - Timothy Dalton serenading Mae West it's even got a scene with Alice Cooper playing the piano for her. Brilliant!!

CaveMum · 17/01/2011 13:58

Firstly I must say I think Dogma is a work of genius. Having grown up in a semi-religious household I thought it was very clever.

Worst films for me:

Donny Darko - I fell asleep, yawn!
The Client - awful, awful, awful. We were 15 and there was nothing else on at the cinema. Wish I'd gone home instead!

I don't know the name of the film but DH insisted we watch a dodgy made for tv/straight to DVD film about a giant squid/octopus terrorising a fishing community. It had James van der Beek (known as van der Forehead in our household) of Dawson's Creek fame in it. BLOODY AWFUL. DH still apologises for putting it on 2 years down the line!

shimmerysilverglitter · 17/01/2011 20:20

Meet the Morgans - Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant. It was awful, just awful, zero chemistry between the two leads, not a single laugh throughout. Luckily I watched it on Sky, had I sat through that at the cinema I would have been seriously tempted to demand my money back.

I feel asleep in the cinema watching "Arlington Road" and even now have never managed to sit through it. I am nodding before the credits at the beginning have even finished, Dull As Dishwater.

ifancyashandy · 25/01/2011 19:08

Independance Day. I genuinely thought it was a spoof and laughed all the way through.

upahill · 26/01/2011 19:01

I have just survived Black Swan!

It was unbelievably bad and me and mate just burst out laughing at the over top melodrama.

Crap Crap Crap!

SarfEasticated · 27/01/2011 21:19

Mama Mia - horrific
Love Actually - even worse
Somewhere - zzzzzzzzzz was meant to be I guess but still.

KirstyJC · 27/01/2011 21:42

I can't believe no-one has nominated 'Don't mess with the Zohan' yet! It was so over the top that it wasn't funny at all and we only sat through it all because I had paid for it. DH said it has set the new benchmark for crap films.

I also agree with Eyes Wide Shut (in fact just originally accidentally typed Eyes Wide Shit - how's that for a slip!Grin).

DH thinks Mannequin is one of the worst, and in fact refused to watch it when I got it from Love Film the other day....I have to admit it was better in my memory than on screen, but still not as bad as Zohan...

EdwardorEricCantdecide · 27/01/2011 21:45

"sex lives of the potato men" and "bad taste"
Both DH idea both absolute crap!!!!!

whatkungfuthat · 10/03/2011 13:55

I want to say Watchmen, which was bum numbing and very long, but the Rorschach character was brilliant. I'm going with SATC2 - I particularly hated the way they shoehorned the bit in about surrogate pregnancy, not got anything against it but SJP clearly wanted to get her point across! I also hated how whiney she was in SATC1 when Miranda had it far worse IMO.

ZuzuBailey · 10/03/2011 14:13

Mama Mia

Lord of the Rings (slept through a lot of it)

The English Patient (just die!)

American Beauty

But the WORST of all the worst films has got to be

Sleepless in Seat........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz - sorry, I just bored myself to sleep trying to type the name.

myhouseWILLbecleanthisyear · 07/04/2011 22:45

I have to agree with SATC2, DH has just asked me what was so wrong with it so I pointed out I refused to pay £5 for it the other day and I have got all the DVD's of the series and the first film so really should complete my collection. Will look for a £1.50 second hand copy somewhere.

Other nominations from me are:

Mamma Mia (And I LOVE musicals)
Pirates of the carribean 2 and 3 (I quite liked the first one)
James bond films, dont get them
Meet the parents/fockers (in fact that type of comedy I dont find funny)
Forgetting Sarah Marshal (I gave that 1 out of 5 and that 1 was given cos Russell Brand was OK in it)
Blair Witch Project (People were walking out in America, I realised why after I watched it - COS IT WAS SHIT)
American Beauty

Me and DH have seen some terrible horror films, 5 accross the eyes (in fact we compare every bad film to that one), them.

Now Im off to watch that clip

evlbzltyr · 17/04/2011 15:21

Anyone who says the first Matrix film and Inception are bad films - I'm amazed you have the brainpower to turn a computer on if you don't /get/ those films.

quirrelquarrel · 19/06/2011 13:37

I've tried to watch Pirates of the Carribean three times and fell asleep during the first half hour each time. At two sleepovers and my German exchange partner's house. I just don't get the hype!

BitOfFun · 19/06/2011 13:49

The Assassination Of Jesse James. DP and I tried so hard with it. Eventually we switched off, probably about 15 knifed before the end, realising that we just didn't care.

BitOfFun · 19/06/2011 13:50

I don't know what I typed for minutes to turn into knifed...

addressbook · 28/07/2011 20:56

Message in a Bottle - Kevin Costner, truly awful

Would rather gouge my own eyes out than watch Mamma Mia
