Kamala Harris

Biden has endorsed Harris to run for president. I don't believe she's very popular but it would be amazing to have a female president.

From what I've read and my VERY limited knowledge, it doesn't seem that she's got much hope of being elected. Please can people who actually know about this come sling and tell me that I'm wrong?!

LibertyDuck · 21/07/2024 20:04

I admire her greatly, but yeah, she's got no chance! I'd love to see a woman become US president in my lifetime, but it won't be Kamala.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 21/07/2024 20:06

I think the only way we'll get a female president anytime soon is if Biden stands down as president (which I think is very unlikely).

He has.

HermioneWeasley · 21/07/2024 20:15

For the democrats to win they don’t need to win over left wing liberals, they need to win over the floating voters who are currently leaning to Trump. There is no way they are going to be persuaded by Harris.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 21/07/2024 20:15

@CaptainMyCaptain no I mean if he literally stands down as president, meaning she becomes president as VP.
Not standing down as the candidate.

piloqeula · 21/07/2024 20:17

USA is not ready to vote in a female president. I was somewhat hoping Biden would step down some time during his tenure as president to force a female on them, alas, that didn't happen.

Nanalisa60 · 21/07/2024 20:20

It will be Hilary Clinton

She's just endorsed Harris as the candidate

She's very unpopular in the polls although she polls well with people of colour and younger voters. Biden gave her a couple of projects as VP that she hasn't really been very successful at. She has quite a low profile and is trusted on abortion but not the big hitters like immigration and foreign policy. There has also been some ridicule of her such as her awkward laughter.

Ah OK. That's not happening now.

Not a chance.

CaveMum · 21/07/2024 20:34

Apparently she’s pretty formidable but, as with all VPs, hasn’t been allowed to get her teeth into much policy.

OneWorldly4 · 21/07/2024 20:38

I think she'll be great.

Nothing better than people thinking you're not good enough. She clearly is.

Go Kamala!!!

dottiehens · 21/07/2024 20:39

The most important thing is if she goes what it takes. They may be in this predicament precisely for electing a woman and mixed race as a VP to make the point. Check her ratings since 2020.

The Democrats have a convention in August where delegates will pick a new presidential candidate. They may not pick Harris.

@cupcaske123 I know, but Clinton isn't going to endorse her and then stand against her as a candidate. So it's not going to be her.

twoforj0y · 21/07/2024 20:54

I wish Hilary would run again

I wish Michelle Obama would run!

(I know she’s ruled out a political career, but a girl can dream!)

FancyNewt · 21/07/2024 21:00

So a woman will be blamed when the Democrats lose.

Meowzabubz · 21/07/2024 21:01

I would also love a female president. But I don't want Kamala. I would love Michelle under all circumstances and would even prefer Hilary. Hell, I'd even take Nikki Haley over Kamala.

Now Michelle Obama would stand an excellent chance

Why? She's great but she's not a politician.

The USA was ready to, and did, vote for a female President in 2016, when Hillary Clinton won the greater number of votes (though not the Presidency, due to the complicated electoral college).
