Biden has endorsed Harris to run for president. I don't believe she's very popular but it would be amazing to have a female president.

We could start a counter list of US politicians worse than Trump.

  1. ummmmm.

I got. Nothing

And your point? TDS is so boring.

just look at the begining, first 20 seconds, and tell me there was no better candidate for vp running mate:

I agree there are probably lots of better candidates for the republicans and the democrats in America. I just don't think that politics as it is now selects for the best. Considering Biden, Trump, Vance, Hilary Clinton it is surprising how much less shit she is.

as far as i know biden's running mate candidates were amy klobuchar, gretchen whitmer and kamala harris. in my book first two would be much better candidates. they would have less trouble defeating unpopular candidate like trump.
but, they chose harris in order to score another point on intersectional scale and got most unpopular vp in recent history. i'm pretty sure that wouldn't be the case with klobuchar and whitmer.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/07/2024 02:03

I'm optimistic of KH's chances. She has been a shot in the arm for the Democratic campaign increasing donations, support and energy.

The election is Trump's to lose. 3 months seems a decent time frame for him to lose it totally.

She isn't as unpopular as Dan Quayle or Dick Cheyney were.

She has undeinabily had poor favourability ratings but, as is often the case for VPs, her approval rating has essentially tracked Biden's. I imagine most other candidates would have similarly suffered; you seldom have a situation where the president is unpopular but the VP is well-liked.

Superlambaanana · 26/07/2024 07:44

I'm eager to see a debate between Trump and Harris. I think it could be pretty decisive if she performed well in the eyes of the all important swing voters.

I'm dismayed by how much of the commentary about her is focused on her sex, race and religion (and her husband being Jewish) and on whether she's sufficiently competent. As always, people are applying a higher standard to her than is applied to men. Of course she is competent enough! The sitting president can't even read an autocue. I suspect he probably wears nappies as he's so frail and clearly is so non compos mentis that he ought to be removed immediately.

I always bang on about it, so I’m aware I sound like a broken record, but I really do recommend subscribing to TRIP US and listening to/watching their coverage. I’ve learned a lot so far and it’s interesting to hear them talk about what the campaigns are doing versus what they should be doing.

Childish cat gentleman George Washington had 0 children
Based Alpha giga-Chad George 111 had 15!!!

Really looking forward to Americans admitting they made a mistake with the whole trusting the country to a man who had 0 stake in its future due to not having any children. Clearly George 3 was the better man. It's just maths🙄

  1. that was a long time ago
  2. hes a man

Thanks for this! Not a broken record, I hadn’t seen your comment before :)

Don't forget the American Four Cast (Channel 4's version of the BBC's Americast).

I’m on loads of threads in Politics saying people should listen to this (plus a variety of other political podcasts!) so I lose track of where I’ve plugged it and where I haven’t!

I don’t work for Goalhanger either, but they should pay me commission 🤣

Barack Obama has endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for US president, meaning the vice-president has now won the backing of all the party’s politically active high-profile figures for her White House bid.

The Democrats who have already endorsed Kamala Harris – at a glance

Vice-president has support from key figures, including Biden, but there are notable absentees from the list

I very much hope she wins. I think she would be a good president. It's incidental to me that she is female, though the achievement of being the first female president and a person of colour would be inspirational in itself. I like her though for her quality and ascent from humble origins. And she speaks sense. And seems decent. Trump is an adjudged rapist, and convicted fraudster, so I'd have a donkey over him, but I do think Harris is an upgrade on Biden as a candidate (though I like Biden, he was just too old and in clear senescence).

SammyScrounge · 27/07/2024 01:24

cupcaske123 · 21/07/2024 20:26

She's very unpopular in the polls although she polls well with people of colour and younger voters. Biden gave her a couple of projects as VP that she hasn't really been very successful at. She has quite a low profile and is trusted on abortion but not the big hitters like immigration and foreign policy. There has also been some ridicule of her such as her awkward laughter.

She laughs like a hyena.but that's not the worst of it: she laughs at inappropriate moments and meaninglessly
I find her to be quite disturbing.

WildLemur · 27/07/2024 03:35

I find it more disturbing that Donald Trump doesn't ever laugh. He's obviously able to recognize humor, and he does smirk, but he never ever laughs. It's one of his various traits that are consistent with psychopathy.

SharonEllis · 27/07/2024 07:31

I agree. Trump's lack of laughter combined with very cruel humour is unsettling. I like Kamala Harris's laugh. Having encountered many hyenas I can confirm there is no resemblance.

I've never noticed this, but you're right.

Yes his facial expression is generally grim. He doesn't look as if he has laughed much ever.

MrsWhattery · 28/07/2024 00:03

"she laughs at inappropriate moments and meaninglessly"

I think a lot of women do this. I find it a bit awkward as I'm quite introverted - I'm not averse to a laugh but if it's just random and I don't know what's funny I'm always a bit confused. But I think women often do it when they're being friendly, or are nervous.

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/07/2024 00:05

LibertyDuck · 21/07/2024 20:04
I admire her greatly, but yeah, she's got no chance! I'd love to see a woman become US president in my lifetime, but it won't be Kamala

Not what polls are saying. She’s catching Trump up fast.

Golden407 · 28/07/2024 00:12

There's a few question marks about the validity of those polls. She's got no chance

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/07/2024 00:13

Disagree. She has every chance against old man Trump.

MrsWhattery · 28/07/2024 00:24

I do think she has invigorated the campaign and Trump is worried about her doing well (not helped by the embarrassment (even for Trump) that is JD Vance) and she has a chance to turn it around. American elections aren't usually won on people being good, sensible candidates, or on policies IMO. It's about emotional and traditional alliances, charisma, limelight-grabbing and polarisation. She is more of a polar opposite to Trump than Biden is, plus the change of candidate makes for a news story and a change of focus.

It's just a shame she's yet another faux feminist who's happy to throw women's rights in the bin.

dottiehens · 28/07/2024 05:32

I would have more respect if people were at least more honest. For some the main thing is that she is black and a woman and will tick the first time box. Therefore, they say she is the ideal candidate just because of that. For others that she is younger than Trump when only last week they were all over Biden and saying he was fine and coherent. As for the youngest yes all fun and memes and all over their social media like that is what is more important. Democrat politicians are going to always side with their party but the duplicity of that lot in charged is so obvious is a disgrace. The only real thing going for her is that she is not Trump.
