Biden has endorsed Harris to run for president. I don't believe she's very popular but it would be amazing to have a female president.

There’s an image being shared on Twitter of a cheque donation for $5000 Trump made to Kamala Harris’ reelection campaign in 2011.

I’d love her to turn up to the debate with one of those giant comedy cheques and ask him if he’d like a refund 🤣

And he can just say he had some pocket change lying around, and Willie asked Trump to send it on.

DeeCeeCherry · 24/07/2024 02:36

She is popular. Read proper news not UK right wing rags, to see the truth. She hasn't got where she is by being dumb and it's beyond silly to imply that. Some pp's sound like sexist, racist men. As to the whataboutery re Michelle Obama, if she stood a chance of getting near the White House she'd be disparaged on here too. She's not even a politician so comparison makes no sense.

Some people's default preference is always going to be White male, feminism conveniently flies out of the window when it suits

Morningsiesta · 24/07/2024 02:48

I think she can win. In the US, It's not just opinion but whether people can be bothered going out to vote. She has a lot more energy than Biden. I can't wait to see her as leader.

GrumpyPanda · 24/07/2024 02:48

My hunch re Obama would be she's popular precisely because she's not a politician and has zero ambitions in politics, and there's sadly still something considered "uppity" about ambitious female politicians. So the very reason Obama never would be on an actual ballot. The pollsters might as well ask how well Taylor Swift would do compared to IQ45.

biscuitandcake · 24/07/2024 02:57

You can't pretend they aren't going for the female angle. Lots of comments about how "ordinary working Americans are fed up of girl bosses". When I have never heard girl boss used non-ironically outside of MLM. I don't think many successful women describe themselves as such.
But it might well backfire, because just as Hillary Clinton's "deplorables" comment, openly telling a percentage of people (in this case 50% of voters) how much they suck isn't a great move. (and then see lots of twitter posts along the lines of "Majority of women say they will vote de. How stupid Are they). It's not a vote winner to say it about rural working voters opting Republican. It's not a vote winner to say it about female voters either.

That's not necessarily why. Often the people who drop out earlier are chosen over those who drop out later. All sorts of reasons, only one being that the VP is often chosen based on Not being a threat to the POTUS.

If anything, I think there is a problem, especially in US politics, but also in general with the least capable/well qualified succeeding. That isn't necessarily the case for Kamala, I dont actually think it is. But even if it was, it wouldnt mean she got through because she is a brown woman despite not being very good. More likely she got through because she was not very good, despite being a brown woman.

Although actually she seems like the best of a bad bunch.

just look at the begining, first 20 seconds, and tell me there was no better candidate for vp running mate:

”Too brown for the Trumpies” is not necessarily true for all of them (though certainly for most) since there are people who voted for Obama and then Trump. More of them than you’d think, which I personally find bizarre, but it is what it is.

I think ‘woman’ is actually the greater issue. But I also think it’s got a lot worse since Obama’s time.

dottiehens · 25/07/2024 04:30

OneWorldly4 · 21/07/2024 23:47

So too brown?

Why don't people just admit it?

Funny to read this which is usually said of blondes. However, are we always going to have this when someone who is brown as you put it is not up to the job? It is really concerning if so.

Newnamehiwhodis · 25/07/2024 05:27

Oh, she will win. I am not sure what kind of news people are seeing that is making them think she can’t win - on the contrary, she raised more in one day (as soon as she was named by Biden) than any candidate ever before.

these donations were from people who were on the fence, people who (in some cases), had pledged to donate if she became the nominee.

the feeling is very optimistic- and Tr*mp supporters have been flying their “let’s go Brandon” flags at half mast, which is one of the most hilarious parts of this. They were all geared up to fight Biden, and now they don’t know what do do with themselves. Silly gits.

I would not put it past trump to refuse the debate - he can’t possibly look like anything but a gibbering buffoon with that sharp woman.

It was a bit stupid question in the context of her role, though.

And I've seem this clip shared a few times over the past few days. Yeah, it's not great, but if it's one of her worst ever moments then her flubs must be relatively few and far between.

Why don't you admit that you use the race card whenever someone disagrees with you?

It's not her race. It's her personality, her incompetence and her attitude.

@nan agreed. 100% this and btw I am a minority female.

USA is not ready to vote in a female president. I was somewhat hoping Biden would step down some time during his tenure as president to force a female on them, alas, that didn't happen.

I honestly thought that was the secret plan, but it never happened. Just car crash after car crash of Sleepy Joe.

WildLemur · 25/07/2024 06:41

I think that Kalama is, on rare occasions, slightly daft is actually an asset.

I think a lot of people rightly or wrongly (in my view, wrongly) have become fed up of stiff, slick politicians and want to see a little more personality - which I think really held Clinton back despite her credentials.

I don't think Kamala is the best available Dem candidate in normal circumstances but I think she was the best candidate in the current, extraordinary circumstances.

I think in a family obsessed nation like the US the fact Harris doesn't have children (just step children) may count against her. It shouldn't obviously but this is the US with a real family streak in its DNA. Her careerism may be a little offputting to some where it seems she has devoted her life to law and pooitics.

only in the US but in the fly over states not having children amongst some raised raises suspisiin. I rhinitis is a real feminist issue as sins Republicans are going to press that if you have decided not to have brought children into the world then how can you relate to the majority of women and families in the country? Does this make you an outaider?

Yeah but the "family values" lot tend to be the Republicans, and they seem to be pretty flexible in those values (as it relates to Trump).

Vance's criticism of childless people (particularly women and gay people) has gone down like a lead balloon. He is the first new VP to come out of the convention with a negative approval rating (when the norm is around +20%). He is looking like a pretty terrible pick and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if he's replaced pre-election.

mids2019 · 25/07/2024 07:20

I agree it is incredibly misogynist and has brought a robust repose from feminists and the press. However the republicans gain from attaching cruel monikers to people and I wonder if 'cackling childless car lafy' might catch amongst some of the US public especially those not invested in politics. IS society is a broad church and there is a Christian value set running through it.

Childish cat gentleman George Washington had 0 children
Based Alpha giga-Chad George 111 had 15!!!

Really looking forward to Americans admitting they made a mistake with the whole trusting the country to a man who had 0 stake in its future due to not having any children. Clearly George 3 was the better man. It's just maths🙄

We could start a counter list of US politicians worse than Trump.

I got. Nothing

Tbf there probably are a few. MGT instantly springs to mind and the likes of Vance might be more extreme than Trump.

Trump's attempts at overthrowing the last election were probably the worst thing a US president has done in modern times but some of the other whackos might well have tried the same if they were in power.
