I must admit i don’t like trial by media. This should be dealt with by the police and judicial system. He as a right to a trial and a defence.

I agree .

I agree .

Which judicial system are you thinking of?

The one that rips victims apart, puts their knickers into a trial as evidence and then even if a man is convicted, gets off because it might ruin his career? Or if he gets a sentence, it is likely to be suspended.

There is no judicial solution in the UK for rape.

SheilaFentiman · 25/09/2023 14:11

My understanding is that reporting restrictions are put in place when a warrant for an arrest has been issued or an arrest has happened.

I don't believe any of the women in this story are going to the police with their evidence, so there will not be a warrant or a trial to prejudice.

I understand at least one other woman has been to the police with a separate allegation and this, I assume, will be investigating and an arrest may be made.

SheilaFentiman · 25/09/2023 14:14

PS - for avoidance of doubt - I absolutely understand why a woman would not go to the police and I have supported a number of women who have been raped - mostly by partners with whom they had had consensual sex previously. No one considered it would be worth reporting.

The only friend who has reported was assaulted by a stranger, and he was eventually convicted, but the trial was very harrowing for her.

Police probe after Brand sexual offence claims https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66918331

The Metropolitan Police says it will investigate allegations of "non-recent" sexual offences following news reports about comedian Russell Brand.

The Hale and Pace crew What a bunch of arseholes.

What?

WarriorN · 25/09/2023 18:46

Doon Mc described what happened on a hale and pace Xmas special, her first Tv. On a woman's hour episode last week.

Projecting her unshaven legs on the big screen and mocking her

I'm unclear who; perhaps crew. She mentioned Jim Davison saying something else too.

JenniferBooth · 25/09/2023 19:28

Jim Davidson commented "and she wears mens shoes" Doon was wearing DMs

JenniferBooth · 25/09/2023 19:31

I was badly bullied at high school for having hairy legs Had i known THEN that this kind of shit does not stop when you leave school i would have felt totally despondent

WarriorN · 25/09/2023 19:53

Thanks for the link - as others have said, her book sounds a fabulous read

JenniferBooth · 25/09/2023 20:35

The article Doon wrote for Red is good too.

Brand faces a second police investigation. Behold my complete and utter lack of fucking surprise at this nugget of info in the article:

"The BBC understands the woman reported her allegations to Thames Valley Police numerous times between 2018 and 2022 but no further action was taken."

"Why don't the women go to the police?", the apologists bleat. "It's so suspicious that it's only coming out now".

OH, AT LEAST ONE DID GO TO THE POLICE YEARS AGO, AND NOTHING WAS DONE. I'M SHOCKED.

Jesus

revolting

ArabeIIaScott · 02/10/2023 13:15

Thinking of all of these women.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 02/10/2023 13:18

Harassment and stalking now

so a woman was telling the police she was being stalked and harassed and they ignored her? How completely and utterly unsurprising

TheFirstStraw · 02/10/2023 14:22

Still at least they seem not to have fined this one for wasting police time, unlike with Shana Grice, who went on to be murdered by her stalker.
Yes, I just can't imagine why don't women report to the police. It's a mystery.

WhereAreWeNow · 02/10/2023 18:06

Disgraceful. How any woman finds the courage to report to the police, given everything we know about how the system is stacked against women, is beyond me. Brave women who have spoken out.

It IS a mystery. Women are so silly. Also liars and just out for money. Umm what have I missed?

We’re golddiggers too, remember. Every single one of us.

Furryrug · 02/10/2023 19:11

@AdamRyan that poor woman, with the allegations that have come out now, surely this should carry some weight and be looked into again.
Makes my blood boil.
