Absolutely @BernardBlacksMolluscs . That should have been the end of Brand's radio/TV career right there. What kind of an organisational culture tolerates a man locking a woman in rooms and getting their cock out and then joking about it on air?!

ValerieDoonican · 22/09/2023 11:48

ArabeIIaScott · 21/09/2023 21:10

Utterly fucking gross. The other bloke should be investigated, too.

Jesus that's unbelievably horrible. Agree, the jokey blokey (🤮) co presenter should be held to account for that

ThreeBearsPorridge · 22/09/2023 13:45

He’s issued a statement saying he wasn’t aware of the full circumstances blah, blah. Typical backtracking and denial.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/09/2023 14:36

What are the extenuating circumstances for getting your cock out at work I wonder?

It didn't go too well for John Barrowman either...

Where is that? Can't see it

I saw it on the news last night.

whatnow123 · 22/09/2023 15:59

I do feel that the government writing to various social media companies has somewhat crossed the line.

Especially considering how critical he has been of said government.

What do you mean by this?

MavisMcMinty · 22/09/2023 16:53

I agree, just because it’s a culture/media figure, doesn’t mean it comes under the Culture Secretary’s jurisdiction. Desperate to be seen “doing something”.

whatnow123 · 22/09/2023 16:56

I mean the culture secretary writing to various social media sites expressing concern that Brand can still earn money on them, through his videos.

Obviously YouTube have made it so he can no longer make any money through the site. Perfectly acceptable. I think the government encouraging others to do the same, is a step too far.

Yeah I hate this

ValerieDoonican · 22/09/2023 19:49

Quite. If the government wanted to "do something" they could sort out the police handling of sex crime, or make misogyny a hate crime, or sack some of their own creeps, or, or...

MavisMcMinty · 22/09/2023 23:47

I suppose dictating self-important letters is a lot easier than actually trying to fix some of the criminal damage they’ve wreaked upon the UK over the last 13+ years. They’ll leave all that mess for the next government to clear up, while the handful of Tory MPs who survive the election can safely heckle from the opposition benches.

Appalonia · 23/09/2023 17:43

I 100% believe the victims and think he should be held accountable for what he's done. But the demonetising of his YouTube channel, and being basically scrubbed from all media channels doesn't sit well with me. And, this is creating a massive backlash online from the many pp who already think these allegations have only come out now as ' The Establishment ' doesn't like what he's saying.

So many women have been 'cancelled' for saying things like men aren't women and women need safe spaces ( JKR ) and more recently Roisin Murphy for objecting to puberty blockers. It's tricky, but if we believe in free speech for us, shouldn't it be the same for everyone?

SheilaFentiman · 23/09/2023 17:52

You’ve started a thread with this exact post. I won’t duplicate my response to that here.

I don't mind private companies like YouTube demonetising him. I am not comfortable with government attemps to silence him.

"I don't mind private companies like YouTube demonetising him. I am not comfortable with government attemps to silence him."

I agree with this to the extent that as long as the rules are arbitrary (which they are) and they're allowed to demonetise on a whim (which they are), sod Russell Brand, enough feminists have been demonetised and banned from YouTube for me not to give a shite.

But I wish there were actual rules that stated within what parameters online social media sites are allowed to do this, so that everyone would know what is and isn't acceptable and the rules were applied equally to everyone. But that's for another thread.

@WarriorN Thanks. Ive been away so missed that. I will look for that on i player

Paul2023 · 24/09/2023 00:18

One allegation is one thing. But multiple? No. I don’t believe multiple women would lie about this.

Brand is a vile man. The day after 911, he was sacked from a radio station for dressing up as Bin Laden. In the USA.

Remember on radio 2 when he bragged about sleeping with Andrew Sachs grand daughter? How humiliating for the poor woman being spoken about like that. And this is in public. If he’s happy to be act and say these things in public, what else is he capable of?

JenniferBooth · 24/09/2023 14:30

Ive caught up with Womans Hour. Thanks

JenniferBooth · 24/09/2023 15:34

The Hale and Pace crew What a bunch of arseholes.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 25/09/2023 09:50

"I'm overjoyed to win this award (shagger of the year), it makes all that tireless shagging seem worthwhile," Brand thanked the Sun in 2006, the year he is accused of seducing a 16-year-old school pupil recovering from an eating disorder into a controlling relationship which culminated in sexual assault.
