Yeah, I think if I hear anymore lamentations about "trial by media" and "innocent until proven guilty" I might scream.
If people feel so strongly that criminals should be held to account in a real court, where were they when rape convictions fell to the disgustingly low level that they are today? Or when victims were further traumatised by being treated like the criminals? When rape kits were being stuffed into broken fridges? When men were getting away with rape by saying they "fell into" the victim? If I'd been one of Brand's victims, damn right I'd go with the journalists who actually believe me and are serious about building a case, and where I'm allowed to retain anonymity than with the shitshow of police, CPS and, if you're very lucky, a jury - possibly consisting of men who think Andrew Tate is a hero.
And with the innocent until proven guilty thing, I don't hear much upset about defendants being remanded in custody until trial. Perhaps we shouldn't do that anymore. Just let them out. After all, "thEir iNnOceNt".
