The school suspended a 10 year old girl for improper behaviour when confronted with the video of her gang rape.

Shame on them.
Shame on all those who distributed or watched that video.
Shame on the adults who even attempt to look for signs of how "willing" that child was.
Shame on a system which enabled a school to think they could make this "story" go away.

My entire country needs to come out of this with a completely different perspective on girls bodies. I don't hold out much hope... the change seems to only happen by tiny shifts.

I'm livid that all I can do is type on the Internet. I want to scream.

What a horrific thing to happen and then to be thrown out of school for it as though you are partly responsible. I can't imagine the trauma.

I am Nigerian as well and while I did not watch the video I’ve seen comments from forums that what the video shows is not rape so we should be careful with the accusations.

There is no doubt there are a lot of questions to be answered here and the children Involved need a lot of help but indications are it was not rape.

Yes the school have a lot of answer for and I agree with you on the flaws of the system etc.

This is so shocking. That something like this happening to a 10 year old child could be considered anything other than a catasrophic failing of the staff responsible for her is unreal.

Not if the other children involved were also children of the same age. This is not a situation of adults abusing a child, this was a case of a child left her hotel room while on a school trip, went to her classmates room and the started to have sex while friends recorded it. So if it rape should the 10 year old boys be jailed?

Yes if the other party is also 10 years old. Again if the firm can’t consent to sex at 10 how can you jail the boy who is also 10?

To add to that, the proof in the video was the girl was the one showing the boys what to do.

this is very sad situation and all the kids involved need a lot of help, but I don’t see how claiming rape is going to hell any of them unless you are ready to condemn the 10 year old boys by insisting it’s rape.

Nobody is talking about jailing 10yo boys, but that isn't the point.

The fact that jail is not an appropriate punishment doesn't detract from the fact that the girl did not have the capacity to consent. Sex without consent is rape.

So, yes, it was rape. Of course, 10yo boys perpetrating rape should not be dealt with in the same way as an adult male perpetrator, but that doesn't mean that we should pretend that a rape hasn't taken place.

Why are 10 yr olds knowing this - if not rape then there is child abuse in there somewhere. Classic signs are promiscuity and knowing more than children that age should

If the girl really was “showing the boys what to do” then that suggests her parents / close family friends need looking into, because that’s not normal behaviour and would be a red flag for her having been abused in the past.

I totally agree with you hence why I said they all need therapy and help and they also need to get to the root cause of where such behavior came from.

Of course it's rape, if the poor child is only ten years old. She can't consent, she isn't old enough. She has been raped.

Obviously I wouldn't watch the video, but if she's telling the boys what to do then that suggests that she has been abused before!

That doesn't mean that I think that we should put ten year old boys in prison, of course not. But that doesn't mean that the poor girl isn't a rape victim!
