I think this will be interesting. I'm actually quite keen to hear from Michelle Dewberry.

I'm not big on ex-Apprentice winners but I remember her and appreciated her tweet about being a mother.

I'm also a bit sick of the BBC tbh and I'm for variety in broadcasting so will see what it's like.

I haven't watched any GB news yet but remembered seeing this thread active a few days ago and thought people on the thread might be interested in this review from the Irish Times about how its first couple of days went.

NonnyMouse1337 · 19/06/2021 07:26

Andrew Doyle has his programme on today at 4pm. I hope it's good. Smile

Freespeecher · 19/06/2021 17:34

I think GB News will be interesting as the audience will compare and contrast stories they cover that don't get a mention on the BBC.

I'm also encouraged by their anti-hectoring policy as I'm so tired of the 'balanced' interview featuring a presenter and approved guest interrupting and shouting over the guest with the incorrect opinion (that they seem to fear so much they don't even want their audience to hear it).

I'm not completely giving Andrew Neil a halo here - he's had a lot of success by letting his guests speak uninterrupted thereby giving them enough rope to hang themselves - but I much prefer this approach (as should the opponents really as it at least forces them to hone their arguments).

Lowhum · 21/06/2021 14:21

They have discussed the olympics this afternoon. The facts about male development, muscle decrease being very minimal etc. We’re discussed. Very informative and factual.
The academic discussed how she has had complaints for even studying this.

His slot was very good. Very funny.

"i've been called homophobic, which is ridiculous. Every single one of my boyfriends has been gay".

🤣

Mollyollydolly · 21/06/2021 15:36

Well GB News have been doing sterling work on the Laurel Hubbard debate today. So far seen Emma Hilton and Miranda Yardley and lots of emails from listeners who think it's outrageously unfair. Sex and gender really is the heart of the debate strangely.

NonnyMouse1337 · 21/06/2021 15:48

That's fantastic Mollyollydolly.

NannyAndJohn · 21/06/2021 18:00

Dan Wooton did a fantastic job of dealing with the ghastly I. Willoughby last night.

It was yet another piece where I found myself nodding along with someone I thought I'd have zero in common with (Ann Widdecombe).

Melroses · 22/06/2021 22:03

Ann Widdecombe is much more interesting now than she was in her govt days*. She likes a good debate.

  • Except her comments about Michael Howard. Interesting insight.
Campervan69 · 22/06/2021 23:04

IIRC Ann Widdecombe raised sensible objections to the GRA when it was initially debated all those years ago.

Campervan69 · 22/06/2021 23:06

This is @WTFSeriously from a previous thread about this.

"Here's some choice quotes from AW's contributions to the debate on the GRA bill

"The Bill is appalling. It is a muddle and a quagmire. It is nonsense."

"Elements of the Bill are farcical, including not providing information about the past. If one has a sex change, everyone from the past knows about it."

"It is nonsense to try to throw a veil of secrecy, enshrined in law, over the past, suggesting that one can rewrite it or wipe it out."

"Changes in life do not mean that the past is rewritten. A marriage can be dissolved but nobody says that it did not exist, that that period of one's life, however unhappy or difficult, did not happen. Rewriting history causes many of the measure's problems."

"In our desire to rectify a wrong, we should not create more wrongs in its place."

I rarely agree with much, if anything, AW says but she knew back then the GRA was not a good bill, and her comments from the debate are spot on."

Congratulations to GB news, excellent start:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9721469/Andrew-Neil-celebrates-GB-News-beating-BBC-Sky-audience-figures.html

"The 72-year-old took to social media to celebrate the news, writing: 'Great figures on @GBNEWS Andrew Neil show last night. Number one in time slot (again).

'Three times audience of Sky News. 26% more than BBC News Channel. And we’ve only just begun.'

It was also reported that the show attracted 'quite a young audience' with higher numbers in the 16 to 35-year-old demographic."

2Rebecca · 24/06/2021 21:22

I like the Andrew Neil show and watch/ listen to most programmes. I'm not sure my viewing is counted though as I tend to watch it on catch up on the app. This morning I listened to last night's on the way to work. The feature on Hong Kong was interesting. The Spectator's China commentator was on and she is very good. I like her on Spectator TV as well

YawningAngel · 24/06/2021 22:15

India was so outraged at her mistreatment by Wooton that she's flounced off now. He must have been monstrous Hmm

Smokeahontas · 24/06/2021 22:48

I’ve mainly watched Andrew Neil’s show and dipped in / out of the others. Their coverage of GC events has been impressive, it’s straight up facts signing skirting around the topic. I like the overall approach though. Especially the lack of smug which is ever present on the BBC.

LizzieSiddal · 24/06/2021 22:53

I’ve watch bits and have been quite empresses with the in depth discussions. I saw Stephanie Davis-Arai on their tonight, taking about the Tavi case.

"Stop Funding Hate" are going to be looking pretty fucking silly now. Well, even more silly.
ScribblyBaller · 25/06/2021 11:03

Bit weird that Andrew Neil has announced he'll be taking a two month break from the channel a mere fortnight after its launch?

PhilSwagielka · 25/06/2021 11:46

I don't know what India Willoughby was expecting. Did she think she was going to get a pass because she happens to be a right-wing trans woman rather than a left-wing one?

Datun · 25/06/2021 11:49

India Willoughby might just have publicly defamed LGB alliance on national telly. She said they are a hate group.

They are a legitimate charity, with charitable status.

You can't go around spouting stuff like that. Not only that, any gender critical opinions they have are now protected, too.

Wow. I trust screenshots/archives have been taken

India strikes me as an angry person, who speaks in the heat of the moment quite often. That's no excuse, of course

ScreamingMeMe · 25/06/2021 12:57

Sorry, don't know why I said that about screenshots. So used to shite beong spouted in twitter, i think.

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 25/06/2021 13:18

LGB Alliance: "Today’s interview with Kate Harris. Thanks @gbnews and thanks @BluskyeAllison for capturing the clip with a quick edit to address the technical hitches. Once we get to explain our charitable objects to the public, people tend to say “Oh! Of course!”

“No debate” is over."

I've not seen Willoughby that angry since they found out that some women don't shave their legs and mumsnet threads aren't all about prams.
