I think this will be interesting. I'm actually quite keen to hear from Michelle Dewberry.

I'm not big on ex-Apprentice winners but I remember her and appreciated her tweet about being a mother.

twitter.com/michelledewbs/status/1400721389854810114?s=21

I'm also a bit sick of the BBC tbh and I'm for variety in broadcasting so will see what it's like.

Maya was just on. Lots of chance for her to get her point across without being talked over.
She was asked how it has impacted on her.
The sound quality was poor though and you could hear the producer in the background!

OvaHere · 14/06/2021 14:30

I saw that Maya was going to be on. I missed it though because the sound issues are so rubbish I couldn't put up with having on in the background.

stumbledin · 14/06/2021 14:32

Writing off Andrew Neil as "pale, male and stale" says far more about your own blinkered, narrow- minded attitudes than about him.

Not its not as i said to you previously it is because there are too many of them. When that equally pale male stale stalwart of Radio 4 flagship news programme left the listening figures shot up.

I have been listening all my life to this over educated narrow experience white middle class males who think their way of thinking and debate is the standard by which all should be judged.

It is prejudice. It is lived experience of man like him dominating the converstation / airways.

And that is why they got capitalist money. Because they are part of the establishment. If you want to go on tugging your forelock to the ruling class that's you choice.

And as i also said previously, if a new News station had been set up by journalists from the Voice and Eastern Eye that would have been a break through.

This is just a vanity project by white men who think they should always have their voice heard, and when they think that has been taken away from them they have the connections and money to set up their own platform.

I am hoping it will go belly up like Trump's very own platform.

This is just the establishment trying to re-ivent itself.

I cant imagine, even ignoring the politcs, why anyone would tune into anything to mind numbingly boring.

I look forward to the day when venture capitalism sets up a tv channel run by women who are sucessful and progressive and speak for women.

Having to beg for a few crumbs from the elite table of the white male establishment is just an indication of how far women are from being liberated.

Oh that's a real shame!

There's not much of a diversity of opinion among those presenters. There's nobody even vaguely on the left.

Ex Labour MP Gloria de Piero is presenting right now.

Fair enough, although she quit Labour and joined Rupert Murdoch's Times Radio who she left to join GB News.

What's stopping them? Loose Women has been on prime TV for decades.

User135644 · 14/06/2021 15:10

This is just the establishment trying to re-ivent itself.

This is a very true depiction of GB News btw.

The likes of Andrew Neil trying to piggy back off the back of Boris Johnson's faux-one nation conservatism after penetrating the red wall off the back of Brexit and the 'out of touch liberal/metropolitan elite'.

Mollyollydolly · 14/06/2021 15:12

Thanks for the heads up. Just got in so will watch the 3.15 slot.

Mollyollydolly · 14/06/2021 15:17

Andrew Neil grew up in a council house. He's an example of the post war generation where the brightest benefitted from a Grammar School education. That seems to be forgotten when people discuss him. He's a perfect example of the aspirational working class, the people Labour seem to have forgotten about.
Just to be clear I'm not saying I agree with him on everything (I don't) but I do think he's a great journalist and he certainly didn't start off with any advantages in life.

Floisme · 14/06/2021 15:29

I don't regard diversity of opinion - or lack of it - as the main issue. A much bigger problem for me is that too many journalists seem to think their role is to present a viewpoint rather than to seek out and present the facts, no matter how uncomfortable, and to hold those in power - wherever their sympathies might lie - to account.

Andrew Neil frequently got up my nose. He didn't reassure me that I'm a good, right thinking person, but then that was kind of his job. I've seen him dismantle enough poorly briefed politicians of all persuasions to think the BBC made a mistake in letting him go. Even if he falls flat on his face, I still think it'll be the BBC's loss more than his.

Your continued use of "pale, male and stale" simply emphasises how narrow- minded, bigoted and prejudiced you are. Is this because you bizarrely and wrongly believe that as part of an "oppressed class" that gives you free rein to vent your own bigotry?

'feminists' aligning themselves with GB news or whatever they're called is sad and desperate. No principles...will obviously latch onto anybody who is anti-trans

NotTheFunKindOfFeminist · 14/06/2021 23:49

@HmmmmmmInteresting

Anti-trans? The channels been running for just a day and I don't think they've even covered the trans issue yet? Confused

Just read back on this thread. No need for the stupid emoji

arithanaggerton · 15/06/2021 01:44

I watched the launch speech on YouTube just now.

WTAF

"WE WILL NOT LECTURE YOU OR TALK DOWN AND NOBODY WILL BE ALLOWED TO HECTOR!!!"

It was insufferable.

arithanaggerton · 15/06/2021 01:45

It was like a comedy sketch, it really was.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 15/06/2021 06:09

The lighting was like something from the 1980s from what I saw on twitter
ScreamingMeMe · 15/06/2021 06:44

@Tibtom

News reporting is expensive business. I worry that a start up will not have the wherewithal to investigate properly.

It feels the BBC these days simply repeat press releases and possibly add some random twiiter responses to make it looked like they have done a bit more. The inclusion of twitter responses always seems particularly pathetic. But there is ao littke actual investigative journalism or unbias critique of carefully prepared press releases.

Absolutely. It's not just the BBC where proper, investigative journalism with no political bias has died a death, unfortunately. It's practically everywhere.

Not sure that GB News is going to be the answer to this. (I haven't watched it yet.)

SweetGrapes · 15/06/2021 07:06

Sound quality was poor. But will keep watching now and again.

I enjoy mixing up my news watching with AJ, RT and now GBN. It gives different news and different perspectives. And I can make up my own mind about which parts are ridiculous or I don't agree with.

TheQueef · 15/06/2021 07:09

Glad I'm not the only one to notice the sound.

I couldn't make out the conversation at all, will try again in a few days though.

Nobody is "aligning" themselves with anything. Most people are interested in hearing a different perspective on the news, that's all. We are capable of making our own minds up about where the truth lies, so you needn't worry yourself.

They had maya on but I’m not sure where the anti trans bit comes in

But like i said I haven’t watched it yet

@HmmmmmmInteresting

This is why we are in such a mess politically. Because so many people have become so ensconced in their own political bubbles and convinced that they're the sole arbiter of morality that they'll claim anyone who even listens to someone else is automatically aligning themselves with them. Pure totalitarianism.
