Noel Clarke sexual harassment allegations, suspended by BAFTA

www.theguardian.com/culture/2021/apr/29/actor-noel-clarke-accused-of-groping-harassment-and-bullying-by-20-women

🤬🤬🤬

Especially galling that BAFTA was seemingly made aware of this before giving him his very recent honour. I watched his acceptance speech and found it really moving in terms of celebrating a working class black man’s success in a historically white industry. Turns out he’s an (alleged) sexual abuser. Fucking great.

Ditto.

Didn't Bafta care enough to postpone the award until they had clarified the situation?

Wow.. this does not look good. Would never have expected this of him, he has always seemed decent and humble. But for 20 women to all say the same... Oh dear. Disappointing!!

I know that Adam Deacon (acted in Kidulthood and Adulthood) has accused Noel of bullying and ruining his career for years, in fact I watched on insta as he gradually had a complete meltdown about it. I guess at the time I thought perhaps it was a touch of jealousy etc but now it seems it could all be true :(

Very concerning 😟

I used to follow him on Twitter about ten years ago before he blocked me because I called him out for some misogyny.

He was such a wanker even back then and I’m not at all surprised by this. He used to refer to his (then?) wife as ‘vagina at home’.

He deserves whatever’s coming to him.

Oh wow. I saw him on telly the other morning and he seemed like an interesting person. This looks like its going to.open up a whole can of worms though

What?!? I'm so disappointed. I don't even now why as I know nothing of the actor beyond his performances and lauded achievements.

I'm so disappointed in this, I didn't really follow his career as such but thought his Bafra speech was inspired. Its hardly he said she said if 20 women are accusing him of this. Shock

Gonna have to Google him as I've literally never heard of him ...

That's one hell of an expose, I've never read anything like it.

Another one.

DH and I like to play, "which man would you actually be surprised about at this point". It's a really fucking short list.

He has David Tennant and I'm keeping Patrick Stewart.

I feel angry and disappointed. And (this is selfish I know) as a massive Who fan, won’t be able to watch Mickey Smith again without seething resentment. Fucking men ruining everything.

Hope the women he (allegedly) abused are being looked after and supported. It takes a lot of bravery to come forward like this. Solidarity to them all, and to all women calling out our abusers.

Who made the decision at BAFTA to go ahead with honouring him? Is BAFTA subject to FOI?

@BraveBananaBadge me neither, it’s so forensic in the detail.

Didn’t Adam Deacon get arrested for it though as he threatened to kill Noel’s kids?

I've just read that Guardian piece with my jaw on the floor. Absolutely revolting, predatory behaviour. The pathetic attempts to cover it up and the damage limitation make it worse.

What does TWAW mean?

No. No no no no no!

You’re right though that at this point it’s really not that surprising when any of them are exposed is it.

@toocold54

What does TWAW mean?

TWAW=Trans Women Are Women, so refers to someone who believes that self-declared gender identity trumps the reality of biological sex. I’ve no idea of Noel Clarke’s views on that subject, although from his (alleged) actions I am pretty certain he knows what a women is when he is selecting who to abuse and sexually harass. It’s not like him supporting Women=Adult Human Female would somehow get him off the hook for these (alleged) abuses, so please let’s not get sidetracked into making this thread about anything other than sharing our reactions to this news of yet another high profile (alleged) abuser being uncovered.

I know a few people in the industry and let's just say the Noel Clarke news is not exactly a shock. You'll be pleased to hear that I know two women who work in theatre production who both say Patrick Stewart is the nicest actor they've ever worked with (and neither of them have high--powered positions.) They liked David Tennant too, but Patrick is their clear fave. If anyone is interested, one of them also worked with Freddie Mercury a few times and said he was the winner when it comes to nice musicians.

Always hated this prick and could never explain why. It's the strongest reaction I've ever had against a celebrity I do not know and have no evidence against. Just thought he was bad news. I'm not surprised in the slightest.

Fucking hell, those allegations are grim. So many women, so many incidents

Report

Caneloalvarez · 29/04/2021 21:33

@toocold54 I wasn't aware of that, obviously that's not ok if he did threaten to do that. But the impression I have is that whatever happened between them, Noel Clarke completely broke him and he was made to look like a crazy person. Still no excuse for threatening someone's kids though.

It just looks completely different in light of these allegations. HOW does someone get away with it for that long... Sickening.

Report

Lottapianos · 29/04/2021 21:34

That Guardian report is sickening. I recommend not reading it all in one go. So many women with very similar accounts. Shame on BAFTA

Not surprised by the allegations. I always found he came across very arrogant and unpleasant
