Noel Clarke sexual harassment allegations, suspended by BAFTA

🤬🤬🤬

Especially galling that BAFTA was seemingly made aware of this before giving him his very recent honour. I watched his acceptance speech and found it really moving in terms of celebrating a working class black man’s success in a historically white industry. Turns out he’s an (alleged) sexual abuser. Fucking great.

@Cwenthryth

I wonder how men who are faced with such severe allegations from so many independent sources, that a national mainstream newspaper feels are substantiated sufficiently for them to publish, feels confident enough that he has done no wrong to immediately deny and declare he will defend himself. The sheer fucking arrogance.
Unless he wants to own up altogether I don't think there is really another option. But I think a lot of guys like this who have a lot of power have such a twisted sense of what is ok that they actually think they haven't done anything wrong, or they are sociopaths and they don't care.
serendipitea · 29/04/2021 22:40

He's had run-ins with Magdalen Berns on twitter...

I believe you @LadyHalesBroach, and like others here was moved by the BAFTAs speech he gave. Do you mind me asking if you saw that and what you thought of it?

boatyardblues · 29/04/2021 22:47

@MrsTerryPratchett

Another one.

DH and I like to play, "which man would you actually be surprised about at this point". It's a really fucking short list.

He has David Tennant and I'm keeping Patrick Stewart.

After the Rolf Harris revelations came to light, I realised no one was beyond suspicion.
Waterlemon · 29/04/2021 22:48

I’m very shocked, went to school with him. He dated one of my best friends at the time. Not the kid I remember at all. He was a flirt and could take himself too seriously at times but a sexual predator Is something else - very difficult to process/accept.

Katjolo · 29/04/2021 22:49

He ruined Adam Deacon. An absolute bully!

It's male entitlement on display, isn't it? I bet more women will come forward now too. I hope they'll no longer be intimidated into silence as so many women clearly have been for so long.

BraveBananaBadge · 29/04/2021 22:51

I'd never seen that image attached to Magdalen's post before serandipitea, 'how to be an ally to women'. It says so much in one jpg.

@terryleather

I think I'm correct in saying that NC is a TWAW woke bro, seem to remember some incidents from a few years back but can't recall the details...funny how so many of them turn out to be misogynists...
Just seen an old twitter thread of his from way back in 2016: 'Argument with this silly lot the other day. "Lesbians against Trans women sharing their spaces" Changing rooms etc'.

Tom Hanks. I would be gutted.
terryleather · 29/04/2021 23:15

Aahhh thanks Ivy, I was beginning to think I'd mis-remembered but seems not...

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 29/04/2021 23:25

LadyHalesBroach Flowers

What vile “allegations” & “he did not recall sending her an unsolicited picture of his penis” HmmAngry

Weirdly I listened to him on a podcast a couple of weeks ago & found him quite unpleasant & incredibly arrogant.

jakeyboy1 · 29/04/2021 23:25

The article is so incriminating it's awful, and his responses just make it worse. I'm gutted as I always thought he was rather nice!
I suppose on the plus side it's coming out now and not in 20 years time when he's done it to a lot more people. How can people who claim to be so righteous be so awful?
Respect to all the women coming forward.

RUOKHon · 29/04/2021 23:26

Poor Adam Deacon had a proper psychotic breakdown. He ended up rambling around his home estate in Hackney with a machete and was extremely paranoid. He might also have been sectioned but maybe I’m misremembering that part. I think it’s true that he stalked Noel for a while and threatened his kids, but he’s since acknowledged that he was very very unwell at the time.

(Complete tangent but Adam Deacon is/was a phenomenal rapper. There are some old YouTube videos of him freestyling on Radio One and he’s unbelievable.)

Cwenthryth · 29/04/2021 23:29

I’d be gutted if Ethan Hawke. The Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight films are my go-to comfort watch. Jesse can’t be a bad guy.

MsTSwift · 29/04/2021 23:33

Also Colin Firth. Although a friends partner works on film sets and said he was really nice

TabbyBeast · 29/04/2021 23:34

I'm convinced allegations were made a few years ago and suddenly went quiet. I'm guessing more women have come forward this time and he can't lawyer his way out so easily this time

colouringindoors · 29/04/2021 23:39

Just read that article. What a disgusting human being. All those women Sad

asd99 · 29/04/2021 23:56

“It actually floors me that every single woman I meet can recall an incident involving them being sexually assaulted, harassed or bullied and yet, not a single man will admit a friend of theirs is a predator. We know you’re out there, so who’s lying?” (Fitting tweet I saw)

Ineedaneasteregg · 29/04/2021 23:58

As a Dr Who fan I am really disappointed 😢
I had always followed his career in a gently positive way.

doomonic · 29/04/2021 23:58

It's breathtaking, the sheer arrogance & you know he would be the type to criticise others & preach.

Daniel Sloss invites men to talk to their boys (but I take your point). He castigates himself:

Were there signs in my friend's behaviour towards women that I ignored? Yes. And then he raped my friend. That's on me until the day I die.

(Tweet with video in the OP has disappeared.)

Deep down, I know most men are good, but when one in ten men are sh!! and the other nine do nothing, they might as well not f!!!ing be there. "Instead of having this f!!!ing hero complex and being, like, "I'm going to beat up a rapist, stop one, because I know it can be done, because I know how I f!!!ing failed at it.

Talk to your f!!!ing boys. Get involved.

mouldygrapes · 30/04/2021 00:11

I know one of the actresses involved.
They reported it to BAFTA well in advance of the awards ceremony to give them time to process it and pull his award.
BAFTA told them to report it to the police and did nothing

Pota2 · 30/04/2021 00:28

Oh of course he is a TRA. Hope the smug wanker enjoys his comeuppance. There are SO many smug lefty liberal guys who are huge predators but get away with it by acting progressive. I don’t fall for it anymore.

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/04/2021 00:40

Really disappointed in Noel Clarke. The Guardian article was absolutely brutal. Never read anything as detailed. His awful alleged behaviour was right across the spectrum of sexual harassment.
BAFTA chasing some good PR has been exposed as a very shoddy organisation indeed.
