Noel Clarke sexual harassment allegations, suspended by BAFTA

www.theguardian.com/culture/2021/apr/29/actor-noel-clarke-accused-of-groping-harassment-and-bullying-by-20-women

🤬🤬🤬

Especially galling that BAFTA was seemingly made aware of this before giving him his very recent honour. I watched his acceptance speech and found it really moving in terms of celebrating a working class black man’s success in a historically white industry. Turns out he’s an (alleged) sexual abuser. Fucking great.

Blimey!!!!

toocold54 · 29/04/2021 21:37

TWAW=Trans Women Are Women, so refers to someone who believes that self-declared gender identity trumps the reality of biological sex.

Thank you.

doomonic · 29/04/2021 21:38

Wow I'm shocked

toocold54 · 29/04/2021 21:39

It just looks completely different in light of these allegations.

@Caneloalvarez I agree. I remember them making out that Adam Deacon was insane but maybe he was driven to it. Obviously no excuse but it does make you wonder.

BackYardBetty · 29/04/2021 21:41

Really upsetting reading. So fucking disappointed. Are there no good guys left?!

doomonic · 29/04/2021 21:41

How do they possibly think it's ok to behave like this

nobucketlist · 29/04/2021 21:43

I can also confirm the 'Patrick Stewart is lovely' news. Completely lights up a room and makes everyone feel special.

SmokedDuck · 29/04/2021 21:44

Sounds very typical of a certain type of creep.

Slightly an aside, but I think the wax nudity and sex have become so open on tv and films is a real problem - despite supposed industry standards and intimacy coordinators and all that jazz. It's just a problematic work environment.

Neonprint · 29/04/2021 21:45

I've never liked him he always came across as really arrogant. So this doesn't surprise me at all.

I really don't think there is a chance 20 women all made stuff up.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/04/2021 21:45

Thanks @EsmaCannonball that's hopeful.

I was involved in the music business for years and there's lot of arseholes Marilyn Manson But Keith Flint was lovely, Sonic Youth, particularly Mark. A few others.

nobucketlist · 29/04/2021 21:50

The the Guardian The Guardian - and their lawyers! - will be very very sure of the credibility of their sources

LadyHalesBroach · 29/04/2021 21:55

Everything those women have said is true. I worked with him on a tv drama a few years ago and I saw how he behaved with the actresses, the female writers and he bullied me. Not going into detail because I’m not brave enough and don’t want to be outed, but I vowed never to work for him again or on one his productions. The other problem is how enabled he is, and his locker-room culture, the female crew like myself aren’t able to speak up.
Really commend those that have. He’ll never work again, and I for one am delighted.

Cwenthryth · 29/04/2021 22:02

I wonder how men who are faced with such severe allegations from so many independent sources, that a national mainstream newspaper feels are substantiated sufficiently for them to publish, feels confident enough that he has done no wrong to immediately deny and declare he will defend himself. The sheer fucking arrogance.

JustcameoutGC · 29/04/2021 22:06

Really sorry that happened to you @LadyHalesBroach.

It is rarely just one man, it is him and the others that collude and the system that enables him and silences women.

Flaxmeadow · 29/04/2021 22:08

I'd never heard of him until he appeared on Who Do You Think You Are. I usually love the West Indies episodes, but he came across as so rude to the researchers/people he met there. Using laddish London Jafaican slang, as if they would even understand it. He came across as really arrogant and disrespectful

unique1986 · 29/04/2021 22:09

Very cocky and arrogant on Graham Norton while back .
I actually thought wow he has more of a personality than I thought.
Eg thought he was dull and boring in real life.
Turns out another asshole.

SunsetBeetch · 29/04/2021 22:09

@RUOKHon

I used to follow him on Twitter about ten years ago before he blocked me because I called him out for some misogyny.

He was such a wanker even back then and I’m not at all surprised by this. He used to refer to his (then?) wife as ‘vagina at home’.

He deserves whatever’s coming to him.

Ewww really?

This is so concering. The things he's been accused of are horrible.

southeastdweller · 29/04/2021 22:11

He's always been a one trick pony actor, playing the same character again and again, and in interviews came across like he was a saviour of British TV and film.

I don't know how he can ever come back from this but I do feel for his wife and children.

weewitch · 29/04/2021 22:17

I've never liked him as an actor at all but still so disappointing to read what he's been doing and what those poor women have been going through. Fucking predatory men!

Thewiseoneincognito · 29/04/2021 22:20

No clue who he is but a quick google image search and he looks like an arrogant smug tw@t.

He said that openly on Twitter?!

Oh good God. I can't believe how he referred to his wife. Just..... despicable.
Doyoumind · 29/04/2021 22:30

What an absolute shitbag he is. How could BAFTA go ahead with that award after being warned?

I realise twitter isn't a reliable source of information but it feels like this was a well known issue which people ignored. FFS.

LazyHorizon · 29/04/2021 22:34

Amazing how he “doesn’t recall” whether he sent a subordinate colleague an unsolicited dick pic Hmm

Is that the kind of thing that slips his mind? If so, perhaps that in itself speaks volumes.

TedImgoingmad · 29/04/2021 22:36

Patrick Stewart has been a passionate advocate for women and children experiencing domestic violence (he and his mother and sibling were victims of his father's alcohol fuelled violence). He's also a terrific actor and comes across as a genuinely lovely man.
