www.theguardian.com/culture/2021/apr/29/actor-noel-clarke-accused-of-groping-harassment-and-bullying-by-20-women

🤬🤬🤬

Especially galling that BAFTA was seemingly made aware of this before giving him his very recent honour. I watched his acceptance speech and found it really moving in terms of celebrating a working class black man’s success in a historically white industry. Turns out he’s an (alleged) sexual abuser. Fucking great.

All the stuff about him wanting to apologise.... unbelievable

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 30/04/2021 01:05

toocold

I’m not condoning anyone threatening anyone or their family. I can understand horrible outbursts though.

I was bullied for four years and had my reputation ruined by a ‘man’.

I have spent many an hour wishing the worst on him. It doesn’t mean I would ever do anything.

Sometimes they break you that much all reason goes.

Anyway.

I think you’ve nailed it there pota
Hiding in plain sight. Sad

Holothane · 30/04/2021 01:06

Me too I’m shocked massive who fan here as well, shocking news.

ElizabethTudor · 30/04/2021 01:16

@LadyHalesBroach so sorry you had to go through that.

@mouldygrapes that’s terrible.
It’s a bloody outrage that BAFTA were aware of this and went ahead.

Councilworker · 30/04/2021 01:33

He blocked me some years back on Twitter because I had the temerity to point out that the not one of the women who was there protesting remembered him coming over to have an argument or indeed seeing him at all. He doesn't have a great acquaintance with the truth it seems. He does seem to love writing the word vagina though.

Datun · 30/04/2021 03:12

From the article:

Clarke said he would apologise to any women he may have made sexually inappropriate remarks about. “If a bunch of people go: he commented on my bum, or he mentioned my tits, it’s like– why do you need to take it this far?” said Clarke. “I’ll just say sorry to you. Tell me and I’ll be like: I’m so sorry. You’re right, I said that, I was wrong.”

He has absolutely no idea what a misogynist he is.

I strongly suspect this is just the tip of the iceberg.

MercyBooth · 30/04/2021 03:16

I read the whole article in one go when Michaela Coel retweeted it.
Gobsmacked. But not surprised.

Sickening.

No he really doesn’t. one of these men, who constantly describe us as body parts. Which is why the trans issue is so relevant. And misogynistic.

Can nobody join the dots?!

Fabulous work, Guardian. Well done all those for daring to speak up!

SunsetBeetch · 30/04/2021 06:48

Noel Clarke sexual harassment allegations, suspended by BAFTA
SunsetBeetch · 30/04/2021 06:55

@mouldygrapes

I know one of the actresses involved. They reported it to BAFTA well in advance of the awards ceremony to give them time to process it and pull his award. BAFTA told them to report it to the police and did nothing
That's shocking of BAFTA. Pleased to see they now have egg on their faces.
Siablue · 30/04/2021 07:51

These allegations are genuinely shocking. The naked audition which he illegally filmed. I hope they can press charges.

I really liked him in Dr Who because the character he played was lovely but I had to stop watching kidulthood.

Anyone who puts the kind of sex scenes he did into their work does not have a respectful relationship with women.

blueangel19 · 30/04/2021 08:22

Another false prophet. Preaching kindness and working in the name of the oppressed. In reality he was just using all the woke bro to get more fans, be set as an example, getting awards and making millions.

Glad they expose this imposter monster. His career is over.

Charley50 · 30/04/2021 08:24

Can't believe BAFTA gave him that award knowing all those allegations. What was that about?!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/04/2021 08:25

Well done to the Guardian.

Cwenthryth · 30/04/2021 08:27

This is all BAFTA have said so far
www.bafta.org/media-centre/press-releases/statement-29-4-2021

“In light of the allegations of serious misconduct regarding Noel Clarke in The Guardian, BAFTA has taken the decision to suspend his membership and the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award immediately and until further notice.”

Seeing as it is clear that BAFTA were aware of these allegations before giving him the award, they really need to be saying more than this and apologising for their actions.

PronounssheRa · 30/04/2021 08:55

Reading the latter part of the article about Clarke and Jason Mazas attempts to bury the allegations, they were, at one point, sure that they had prevented the guardian from publishing.

As the guardian did publish, I think they are 100% confident in their claims.

RosaLuxemb0urg · 30/04/2021 08:58

OMG that article. I read it last night and it was really upsetting. What an awful, awful man.

(and another vote for Tom Hanks here).

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/04/2021 09:01

Doesn’t it perfectly illustrate the fact that dick pics are about bullying? When they appear as part of a pattern of behaviour like that.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 30/04/2021 09:01

I saw your comment - and he doubled down by claiming he'd spoken to the woman in the far left of the photograph.
AbsolutelyPatsy · 30/04/2021 09:04

i am disappointed about this also

banivani · 30/04/2021 09:05

@MrsTerryPratchett

Another one.

DH and I like to play, "which man would you actually be surprised about at this point". It's a really fucking short list.

He has David Tennant and I'm keeping Patrick Stewart.

We divide it up into “not surprised”, “surprised and disappointed”, and “disappointed but not surprised”.
MadinMarch · 30/04/2021 09:08

All the stuff about him wanting to apologise.... unbelievable

Yes, unbelievable! It seems he thinks that a quick apology will just sort it all out and he can carry on as usual.
He seems to lack any insight whatsoever into his vile behaviour. I expect there will be more women that find the strength to report more accusations.

PronounssheRa · 30/04/2021 09:09

Yes, on both counts.

Keepnamechangin · 30/04/2021 09:10

I quite liked him in Kidulhood and Adulthood, though his character he played was really nasty and horrible there.
Then I liked him in a bulletproof, he seemed very decent and nice there
I’m surprised.
