Could Psilocybin cure mental health issues?

NC

I watched a couple of really interning films this weekend. One was 'Fantastic Fungi" and another was 'Magic medicine'. Both were talking about the effects that Psilocybin can have on curing mental health.

(For anyone that does'nt know what Psilocybin is - its the active ingredient in magic mushrooms)

There was an interesting study in the U.K with macrodosing ( large quantities) and I think one is Canada has just started.

I have seen quite a few sites on macro dosing - very small doses ( not enough to get high) and people have been saying that its massively improved their lives.

Psilocybin is actually illegal in this country and thats why its been so hard to even get permission to have these trials/studies.

I am just wondering if people have heard of this or what their views on it were

Thank you

Today I've been sorting out my new starter cultures. The jars are filled with rice flour, water and vermiculite. Then they are sterilised under pressure. Once they have cooled down tonight I will inject them each with a few mm of spore culture and leave them in a few different places around the house. Some in a really warm spot ( colonise within 3-4 weeks) some in a warm spot ( colonise in 6-7 weeks) and some at just below /room temperature to be colonise within 9-10 weeks. So that should see me through the next 4 months. It's quite nice as a hobby tbh.

Great thread

@McScreamysGhostPants you can cut out the whole pressure cooker process by innoculating Uncle Ben's brown rice pouches instead. They're all ready sterilised for you.

That sounds genius, but messy!

I have heard about that! Never tried it myself though. Tbh I can see the appeal for people getting started but I like the whole process. I love trying new teks and experimenting with different nutrition levels etc.

So you just inject the spores into the pack?

Where do you get the spores from though?

McScreamy has named a couple of websites on this thread.

@McScreamysGhostPants Probably a very stupid question because people are not me Grin but how did you trust yourself to get it right? I'm completely ok with the idea with the idea of microdosing but feel like I need the responsibility of doing the things and measuring out to lie with a proper adult someone who knows what they're doing.

McScreamysGhostPants · 21/01/2022 12:42

Get what right? The growing process of the dosing?

The growing was amazingly easy. Worked first time ( but I did make some mistakes) and I just went from there. I'm now perfecting it and experimenting with growth media to try and grow them bigger and better. Hygiene OSS the most important thing and a still air box or laminar flow hood really reduces the chances of cross contamination. So it tastes is a single mold spore and your entire cake will have to be binned.

As for the dosing, I started very small. I bought some 250g jewellers scales from Amazon and with the first flush I took 1g of fresh. Then 3 days later 2g. Then I dried what was left and ground it up. With dry you reduce the dose by 90% . So took 0.2g off dry but it's less potent. So the following time I took 0.4g. Then I had more fresh so I've been taking between 4-6g of fresh every 3-5 days. You can't really mess up the dosing and a heroic dose is 50 fresh. You would be out of it but you would recover.

As for taking it, it's all about set and setting. If I'm taking any more than 4g my husband will sit with me so he knows I'm ok. I have a complex history of child hood sexual abuse and domestic votive from being a young adult and if I'm not in the right grade of mind, or if something is bubbling in my sun contours this can increase risks of a "bad" trip. So a trip sitter, calm music, reduced stimulation can all be excellent for the first stages of experiencing different doses

ABitOfAShitShow · 21/01/2022 12:49

@McScreamysGhostPants I think the dosing was what I meant but I was just thinking vague, big-picture. It's strange - I'm a massive control freak in some ways but in other ways, I want absolutely no responsibility for things. Grin

Thanks for replying. Your posts have been extremely useful.

I am going to give this a whirl when I have the energy to look into it more (chronic insomnia is particularly kicking my arse right now).

Yes, straight into the rice packet and then tape over with micropore tape to reduce the contaminations. You can buy the spores online legally 'for research reasons' you're just not suppose to cultivate them

Google Uncle Bens Tek - there's tons of videos online.

Thanks @McScreamysGhostPants , any particular strain you'd recommend?

McScreamysGhostPants · 21/01/2022 16:31

B+ or golden teacher are nice easy strains to start with. Stay away from the more exotic sounding ones as they have been specifically bred for visual effects instead of a feeling of relaxation/euphoria. So no Jedi mind fuck, dancing tigers or Frankenstein's cock until you are feeling more confident.

Okay, so I've been reading this thread with great interest. I would really like to give this (growing them) a go, but I have teenage kids and would struggle with a hiding place. Do any of you have to manage this?

I've got kids. The typical jars are only the size of jam or coffee jars. A fruiting changer the size of two shoe boxes on top of each other. My kids have never noticed but they are perfectly used to me growing on sour dough starters etc. They don't care and I couldn't get them interested if I tried.

Once the jars are inoculated, you are just leaving them softer warm for 3-8 weeks until fully colonised. You don't need to " do" anything so easy enough to keep them out of sight in an airing cupboard etc. 25c constant is the best so some people use a insulated box or a greenhouse heated Mat and thermostat.
