It's just a concentrating look, isn't it? I must admit, I often don't like how I look if I see my reflection in my tablet screen!

ImaLumberJack · 08/03/2019 02:51

Do it again with a smile

wowsertrousers · 08/03/2019 02:53

Angle of camera is key! May take some experimenting to find your best angles but generally having the lens slightly above you, so pointing down at your face, tends to be more flattering.

wowsertrousers · 08/03/2019 02:53

Yes, the smile thing helps too Smile

canyoufeedthedog · 08/03/2019 02:54

I'd there a secret to doing selfies?

Filters

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 08/03/2019 02:59

There's a reason why people put their phones over their heads and look up into the camera lens.

It's very flattering.

canyoufeedthedog · 08/03/2019 03:07

I'm not my putting this on for fun I hate the way I look, I actually feel like killing myself, I hate how I look

You look perfectly lovely in both photos, although the second one is clearly a better picture (not taken so close, you looking up at the camera, glasses frame not obscuring your eyes).

I think the issue is that what you are seeing isn't marrying up with what you are expecting/hoping to see. This is normal and the reason so many people dislike photos of themselves.

Forget it for tonight and try again with different lighting on another day Flowers

wowsertrousers · 08/03/2019 03:17

Don't worry about how you look in selfies. You look lovely in the other pic. And photos don't capture our animated selves - how we look when we're smiling and laughing etc.

RhiWrites · 08/03/2019 03:21

Are you okay? You sound really down.

Selfies are an art, of course. You have to have good lighting, to catch a good angle, to smile with your mouth and your eyes. And then you can edit them to fuck with apps to smooth skin, adjust brightness and contrast, give yourself a “glamour glow”. And those are just the basics.

Go and check out r/instagramreality on reddit and you’ll see what I mean.

PenelopeFlintstone · 08/03/2019 03:39

Always look up, never down!!! Grin

Go on! Try it! You'll feel better straight away.

Frecklesonmyarm · 08/03/2019 03:46

The one 6 months ago is totally different because

It's a more flattering angle (no one looks good at that angle)

You have make up on or more

Your hair is done

The lighting is better

You are smiling

Essentially your first photo is every no no in the selfie handbook

I totally get hating how you look. Honestly I really do. But you cant compare the 2.

PenelopeFlintstone · 08/03/2019 03:48

That was an interesting link, RhiWrites. I haven't seen those before.

GirlRaisedInTheSouth · 08/03/2019 03:50

There are loads of memes about looking bad in selfie pics. I feel your pain, OP. I look awful in selfies. All my lines and sun damage show up and I look probably 20 years older than I am.

HennyPennyHorror · 08/03/2019 04:14

OP you know you look lovely in the 2nd pic....it's as though you've tried to create the total opposite of that in the 1st! ANYONE who frowned, looked down and all that as you have, would look bad.

Why did you post this?

SD1978 · 08/03/2019 04:18

So what's changed in six months? Angles are everything. You're looking down into the camera- first you're looking up. Hair is shorter/neater in the first photo. To be suicidal six months later- that's not a bad angle, that's events getting on top of you. Talk to someone about the real reasons you feel this way. It's not because of a shitty camera angle.

LegitimateShite · 08/03/2019 07:01

Everyone who has ever taken selfies will have taken a horrible one (lots of people take loads so they can pick one that’s flattering from the bunch). My daughter and I send the worst ones to each other, because when they’re bad they’re awful!

The photo from a few months ago has a better angle, better lighting, you’ve got hair and make-up done, you’re smiling - it’s a nice pic! You look like you’re concentrating in your recent one, the lighting is quite dim, the angle is known to be unflattering - I’m sure if you try again you’ll get something that better reflects how you actually look. (If I judged myself based on bad selfies I’d be convinced I look like Jabba the Hutt after years of smoking 60 a day!)

However. You seem to be REALLY down about your appearance, is everything else okay with you? Your reaction is quite extreme (no judgment) and I’m worried that you’re struggling with something that’s really bothering you. Flowers Is there someone in real life you can talk to about how you’re feeling?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 08/03/2019 07:03

Delete it
You are in a the wrong light and angle and are frowning and looking down

If we all wanted to disappear After a bad selfie there would be no one
Left !

WFTisgoingoninmyhead · 08/03/2019 07:07

In the first picture, your hair is styled, you are wearing make up, you have a smile on your face and that is not a selfie someone took the first one.
We all change as we age and we need to keep ourselves looking as good as we can.
I hate myself in glasses, but I have to wear them, so I have to make the best of that, if you are really unhappy, I would go have my hair done and take some time to make myself look good. You are as beautiful in the second picture as the first, it’s just s matter of effort. HTH❤️

moomoogalicious · 08/03/2019 07:08

You need the selfie taken from above! I've done the same as you loads and i look abput 20 years older
