DS missing from psychiatric ward

Young adult son is under a MH section and has gone missing from his ward. Police are involved. He was allowed some unsupervised time yesterday morning but didn't return. We weren't informed until very late in the evening. He's on aripiprazole though won't have taken it since yesterday.

Police will be using social media in an attempt to locate him.

Worried stiff. And trying to hold down two jobs and care for other DCs. DS has a long history of disturbed behaviour and suicide attempts. I can barely keep things together.

Any suggestions or encouragement would be gratefully received.

I can only try to imagine what you are going through. I hope he’s found very soon. Lots of love.

WerewolfNumber1 · 16/10/2018 18:14

We’ve been there - my sister has disappeared from sections several times.

The police have always been excellent at finding her quickly and bringing her back.

It is terrifying when it happens.

I hope they find him soon.

DorothyBastard · 16/10/2018 18:20

Oh goodness I hope he’s found swiftly, I can’t imagine how you’re feeling.

Masie24 · 16/10/2018 18:26

Thank you all so much for your kind messages. They are very much appreciated. Feel very lonely. Not something I'd open up about at work or among the people I know. I want desperately to look for him but I'd honestly wouldn't know where to start. He has form is disappearing and going long distances and even being out of touch for very long periods at a time.

We thought we'd turned a corner when he was admitted - now this.

cindersrella · 16/10/2018 18:35

Has it been posted on social media or do you have social media to help look for him? Does he have a safe place he tends to go to (although I would imagine if yes it would have been Checked). I hope you find him soon x

dontforgettofloss · 16/10/2018 18:38

So sorry you're going through this, I'd be worried sick if it were my child too.
Do you have people around you to support you at the moment? Don't be afraid to open up to someone you know- you'll find people can and will do their best to help in any way they can.

Mumof4under10 · 16/10/2018 18:42

Hope he's found safe soon Op. Flowers

Annandale · 16/10/2018 18:46

A hand to hold Flowers

When my dh went missing it felt weird being at home but in fact that's where he came back to, so it might be the best thing to stay put. He wasn't under section so the police couldn't pick him up, but they let me know about a couple of sightings - they form such a big network.

The National Missing Persons Helpline were incredibly supportive, hope you are finding it the same.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 16/10/2018 18:58

How awful for you, I hope he’s found quickly. Poor him and you Flowers. How old is he?

bigfootfred · 16/10/2018 20:47

Any news?

summerlovingliz · 16/10/2018 20:52

Hoping he is found very soon OP. I would take some time off work if you are able, give yourself some breathing space x

CupMug · 16/10/2018 21:23

Hope he turns up safe and sound soon.

OwThatsGottaHurt · 16/10/2018 21:31

Thinking of you OP. Hope he is safe and well and turns up soon.
Is he allowed to come and go from the unit or is this a failing of the hospital that he was able to get out? My sister was in a MH unit for a few periods and it was like Fort Knox to get in and out.
