you don't have to think you're fat, lots of people with anorexia (most probably) know they are not but body image distortion is in their fear of becoming fat

which is an interesting criterion I think, anorexics of hundreds of years ago never seemed to have this, it's a fairly modern thing

SnowyMouse · 29/01/2015 20:17

That's terrible, tooth Sad

Mentalpsychiatrist · 29/01/2015 20:35

Home at last, lamb fillet for dinner.

Enpoid · 29/01/2015 20:36

How bloody far from work do you live Mp?!

OP posts:
SnowyMouse · 29/01/2015 20:38

Gosh, that is a late day Sad

Mentalpsychiatrist · 29/01/2015 20:45

It's about a 40 minute drive Enpo. I've been home for a little while. Living this far away is good as it means I never bump into patients.

SnowyMouse · 29/01/2015 20:48

I found that tricky with my student placements (bumping into patients outside of them).

Enpoid · 29/01/2015 20:57

Yeah, I am very very aware of the perils of living near your patient base.

Have to see care coordinator tomorrow. Routine appointment. Will maybe chat about care plans, discharge plans, and changing psychiatrist. Funfunfun!

Glad I'm not going to be wearing these lenses the full 16 hours today. Eye strain, a headache, and ghosting in my right eye. Whew.

OP posts:
CaulkheadUpNorth · 29/01/2015 21:25

Did they tell you to start at 8 and build it up? That's what I had to do. I still only manage about ten or twelve hours before they get uncomfortable.

Enpoid · 29/01/2015 21:27

No… I have a lot of prior experience with contact lenses though, so maybe that's why.

OP posts:
Mentalpsychiatrist · 29/01/2015 21:50

I'd love to be able to wear contact lenses but a combination of a very high prescription and a skin condition on my eyes makes them a no no. It causes me no end of grief in summer especially.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 29/01/2015 21:53

I spent about 8 years not being able to wear them as I am allergic to lots of the solution you use.

Glasses are really fashionable at the moment so it's a cool thing to have them. My god daughter wears clear glass glasses.

Mentalpsychiatrist · 29/01/2015 22:05

I need to add an eye test to the list of things I'll never get done.

Enpoid · 29/01/2015 22:16

What's your prescription? They seem to be increasing the range all the time. I've just got mine because they've recently increased the prescription range of the 16 hour daily disposables (the torics go up to -9, and my astigmatic eye needs a -9, and the non-torics go up to a -10, which is the exact prescription in my other eye Grin)

The skin problem is probably harder to get round, though. Some of the continuous-wear ones are much better for dry eyes than the old soft contacts, too.

OP posts:
Enpoid · 29/01/2015 22:21

I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time getting my eyes tested, whether it's annual eye tests, retinopathy screening, glaucoma screening, eye pressure retesting, hospital eye pressure retesting, contact lens checks, more eye tests when my eyes mysteriously change prescription six months after buying new glasses… Hmm

OP posts:
Mentalpsychiatrist · 29/01/2015 22:28

I have -6 in one eye and -7.5 in the other. It's the inflamed eyelids that cause the difficulties.

Enpoid · 29/01/2015 22:30

Swelly eyelids Sad

ugh eyes and contact lenses, am far too squeamish for even the thought of it

unsurprisingly she's pretty miserable now :(
