to throw up after dinner to save on calories?

I am not bulimic, I weigh around 10 stone which for my height of 5' 2" is slightly tubby, but i am ok with that. However, I quite often deliberately make myself sick after a rich meal just to get rid of the calories. I consider it a 'win, win' situation - I have a lovely meal but don't need to worry about the effects on the waist line. I have just been out to a lovely Thai meal with my DH and DC and the contents have been flushed away!

AIBU or do lots of you actually do the same?

That is not normal and pretty much the definition of bulimia.

You need to see a doctor.

bruschetta · 03/09/2012 21:16

Correction: You ARE Bulimic.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 03/09/2012 21:16

Oh come on.

If this is a joke it is in appalling taste.

If you are serious you are doing something utterly in line with what I and most people would call bulimia. How can it not be? Seriously how can you think that what you do is sensible or normal?

That is bulimia though, and is incredibly unhealthy.

Is this a wind-up? I assume it is, because surely no-one is that clueless they think this is normal behaviour! Sorry to burst your bubble but you have an eating disorder.

LadySybildeChocolate · 03/09/2012 21:17

TheArmadillo is right, wildswans. You need help with this.

YouBrokeMySmoulder · 03/09/2012 21:17

No, we don't do the same. It's a waste of money and food. From someone with a previous eating disorder, it is very much a lose lose situation.

epeesarepointythings · 03/09/2012 21:17

Sorry swans but you are bulimic and you need to seek help. This is not what you want to hear, but this is AIBU on MN and you will get the blunt, unvarnished truth here.

You know you shouldn't. Over eating to that point is not a healthy relationship with food.

But I will confess to having done it several times too. I know I have a bad bad relationship with food and have struggled with my weight all my adult life.

If throwing up after a meal to save calories is not bulimia then what is it? I assume this is a wind up. Just in case it isn't and you are serious, are your DH and DC aware of this? If so, what do they think? If not, are you doing it in secret? Definately bulimia.

What do you imagine bulimia is if it's not what you are doing?

whatsoever · 03/09/2012 21:22

Either bulimia or you are from the city in The Hunger Games

theoriginalandbestrookie · 03/09/2012 21:22

I used to do this when I was in my 20s/30s, I didn't do it all the time just after a big meal or if I had been drinking.

Firstly its a massively inefficent way of losing calories - if you want to lose weight you need to eat less not throw it up.

Secondly I have seriously awful teeth now, may have had them anyway but I suspect that throwing up on a regular basis damaged the enamel. Root canal treatment is not a lot of fun.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 03/09/2012 21:24

I dunno, GetOrf, the woman who used to live next door to me once cheerfully offered me laxatives as if it was just what you did. Sad

wildswans · 03/09/2012 21:24

This is not a wind up, i assure you, and I am horrified to think that you would believe that it is. I am sorry. i don't do it every day, but sometimes. i have a teenage DD (whom I have not confided in) and she tells me that her friends do it all the time. i sort of know that i am old enough to know better but then again, why is it a problem to do it from time to time? i really don't see that it is. As i say, i am ceratinly not underweight.

OP posts:
AnnaLiza · 03/09/2012 21:25

In your OP you say that you do it "quite often"

Noqontrol · 03/09/2012 21:26

Not a chance that I would spend money on food for it to end up in the toilet. If this is not a wind up, then you are bulimic, you will rot your teeth and make yourself seriously unwell. If you want to lose weight, eat less, eat properly and exercise.
