I am not bulimic, I weigh around 10 stone which for my height of 5' 2" is slightly tubby, but i am ok with that. However, I quite often deliberately make myself sick after a rich meal just to get rid of the calories. I consider it a 'win, win' situation - I have a lovely meal but don't need to worry about the effects on the waist line. I have just been out to a lovely Thai meal with my DH and DC and the contents have been flushed away!

AIBU or do lots of you actually do the same?

I know this is slightly off OP. But what things in your childhood do you think made you more inclined to an ED?

That's an interesting question Merry and I the answers will vary.

My mum had psychological problems with eating when I was growing up and, in her case, I think it was strongly linked to incidents in her own childhood. i.e. She had been born a twin but her twin was undernourished and died before birth. Mum says that her mum never spoke about it and that she had some feelings of guilt and responsibility about it when she was growing up. In addition, her mother suffered from anxiety to a huge degree and ate very little. My mum was the same- ate very little, would often faint and suffered problems with indigestion and vomiting.

For me, I had a very ambitious Dad who never made a secret of the fact that he wanted us to make great achievements in life. Nothing we did was ever quite impressive enough to make him proud of us. I believe this is partly responsible for me being a perfectionist, which has caused me various problems. Lots of people with EDs are perfectionists.

"But what things in your childhood do you think made you more inclined to an ED?"

Nothing. My parents were supportive, there were no issues around food. It's just one of those things.

It was a nightmare to suffer from bulimia for a number of years.i recovered a number of years ago.something broke in my spirit when I was about 16 years old. I was so ill I would sneak into the kitchen in the middle of the night and take food from the garbage of dishes scraped off for washing. Not learning about vomiting to get rid of the food, my weight went up to 215 and I am 5'6".then after diet and binge eating I discovered vomiting. I was married by then still doing my best to secretly throw up because I had no control at all. I'd eat whole cakes whole chickens what ever I ate like cookies, or any thing I felt compelled to finish the entire jar or package.i threw up at that point without needing to tickle my throat.it was so painful. Then one night I started to throw up in my sleep. Yes can you imagine? My husband saved me. When I came to my eyes hurt from having been bulged out while choking and I was soaking wet from the cold shower he dragged me into. I had no memory of blacking out but the area by the bed showed the effects like a crime scene chairs overturned vomit all over. I weighed 104 pounds looked like a P o w. All my teeth were in bad condition and the gums as well. Had a hiatal hernia and heartburn 24 hours a day every day. Could not lay down to sleep due to the heartburn.electrolyte imbalance affected my heart. So I had enough pain.i went on a fish and yogurt and vegetables diet for seven years. Yes, seven. Then I finally was able to eat other foods like normal people and normal amounts. I weigh about 123 pounds and I am not lying I have been at this weight for years.i had methods along the way. Like instead of popcorn for movies I would bring s entire head of lettuce until I broke the cow chewing type constant eating and I became an exerciser. I am in my 60s now and can live comfortably without a private bathroom. So grateful to have recovered. It's better to be over weight though than to vomit every day. That takes away the will to live. I wish all of you the very best
