it would damage it, wouldn't it? What might happen?

hermionestranger · 30/05/2012 14:34

Drastic you need to go and see our doctor and speak to them propery. Can you go part time or demote yourself in consultation with hr maybe?

You sound in a rough place right now, please don't do anything rash or dangerous for your children's sake. Have a hug xx

DrasticMeasures · 30/05/2012 14:34

I don't want to be sectioned. I'm not a danger to anyone. I can look after DC and myself.

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 14:34

I think you need to phone your psychiatrist asap. No one in their right mind talks about damaging themselves permentantly, you must be all over the place. Ring now.

TheFoosa · 30/05/2012 14:34

not with a broken foot you can't Hmm

DrasticMeasures · 30/05/2012 14:35

I'm not mad Sad

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 14:35

You are a danger to someone - YOURSELF!

You wouldn't be able to look after your kids if you hurt yourself.

valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 14:37

I didn't say you were mad, I said what you are talking about is mad - proper bonkers, and I say that as someone who has been in the same place as you are. You need help.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/05/2012 14:39

Getting sectioned doesnt mean you are a danger to anyone.

You need to see your GP.

DrasticMeasures · 30/05/2012 14:40

Sorry, Valium.

Thank you all.

I need some time to think.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 30/05/2012 14:41

Look after yourself Drastic. Please.

gnushoes · 30/05/2012 14:42

Dear Drastic
even if you managed to hurt yourself to the required degree, all the problems will still be there when you're well enough to work again plus extra problems from what could well be a niggling injury. And the chances of you hurting yourself "just enough" are minimal. Please this isn't logical. If this feels like a sensible plan you probably ARE stressed enough to be signed off and get some proper help for the longer term.

wheniwishuponastar · 30/05/2012 14:42

If you hurt yourself you will prove you are not capable of looking after yourself. The fact you think this is sensible shows you don't have insight into your own mental condition. It shows a lack of connection to reality if you are taking tips from an entertainment programme on tv and dont see a problem with it. Speak to mind or the Samaritans.

FannyFifer · 30/05/2012 14:44

You are seriously considering harming yourself, this is not normal thoughts to be having no matter how shit work is.

You need to phone your CPN, I assume you have one.

DrasticMeasures · 30/05/2012 14:46

I don't have a CPN.

I can't call the emergency number and say 'I might stick my foot under a passing car' Hmm

OP posts:
wheniwishuponastar · 30/05/2012 14:49

You can phone mind or Samaritans with that thought yes. They will listen to you and talk through your options.

valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 14:50

Yes you can, you say " I am thinking of injuring myself to avoid going back to work, I suffer from depression and am being seen by a psych."

NorkyButNice · 30/05/2012 14:51

Do you have a history of self-harming? Because that's what this would be, on a massive scale admittedly.

You said that your depression is being treated, and that you are content at the moment - then take responsibility for yourself and get down to the GP or speak to your psychiatrist ASAP.

This isn't normal thinking and you must know it.

valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 14:52

I think it's more worrying that you think this IS normal thinking OP. Please ring your GP.

Rollersara · 30/05/2012 14:53

Hmm, not sure how that will work. I was signed off work for 2 weeks with a broken foot and couldn't leave the house. So no work and no life. If you're badly injured enough to be signed off (however the injury happened)...

valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 14:55

roller do you really think that is helpful?

valiumredhead · 30/05/2012 14:56

The flip side of that is being injured so badly you are permanently disabled!

Toaster24 · 30/05/2012 14:57

DrasticMeasures

I've been in the place where you are now. trust me when I say that you urgently need to get more professional-mental-health assistance than you're getting.

There are definitely things they can do to make you feel better than you're feeling now.

With me that was medication.

If you're already taking medication then it obviously isn't working very well - the psychiatrist needs to know that, so they can up the dosage or change you to a different medication.

The main reason to get in contact with them right now is that the sooner you call them, the sooner they can help you feel better.

you can call the psychiatric emergency number and tell them you've been having thoughts about hurting yourself. You don't have to be specific if you thing you'd feel stupid telling them about the foot/car thing. Tell them you have started making a plan about how you might seriously hurt yourself, but you don't want to share the details of that plan.

You're not at all likely to be sectioned. You don't need to worry about that.

What they will probably do is run you through the Beck Depression Inventory - it's a questionnairre which you can find here:
www.fehb.org/CSE/CCSEConference2012/BeckDepressionInventory.pdf

  • you can do these questions by yourself at home, so - frankly - you know what answers to give to get the help you need.

I found it helped me to be honest to know in advance what the questions were going to be - the first time I did it at home, I filled in what I would probably have told the doctor - "oh, I'm fine, a bit down maybe" and I saw that that would not give me a score high enough to get help, so I went to the doctor and told the truth, which was that I saw no point in living and wanted to die.

You'd be amazed how quickly the right medication - or other treatment if you've got different preferences - can help you.

But what you're getting at the moment obviously isn't helping much - or not as much as you need - so you need to make that phone call if you want to stop feeling this way.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 30/05/2012 15:00

Drastic, I've had moments where I have thought how convenient it would be to have a semi serious injury, broken limb type thing which would mean I didn't have to go to work. Fleeting moments though, that's it.....I've never seriously thought of injuring myself and nor should you.

Stress is a serious condition. If work seriously makes you feel like you would
Rather suffer an injury you need to be signed off.

Sorry for typo's, got to get dc's

wheniwishuponastar · 30/05/2012 15:00

If you can be signed off sick for mental condition then there is no need to be signed off for something physical. If you dont want to go back to work then it doesn't matter what they think. Also they dont need to know the details. Your doctor can sign you off with a medical condition no need to specify what it is.

Rollersara · 30/05/2012 15:00

valium, I'm making the same point as you, if the OP did manage to injure herself, it still wouldn't solve her problems, and she could be permanently disabled as a result...
