Hope this is Post No. 1001 equivalent, having just used up the thousandth space and feel I shouldn't ask Madmouse to organise the next one again.

Have just looked into summerhouse to check fire is burning gently, tray of [brew} organised by upward to turn into one's favourite hot drink of the moment is standing ready for visitors, along with a few pounds of chocolates from huge box sent by DSis. (Before DB eats any more today)

It's usually tianc, upward and hob who remember to be hospitable and also remember to send good wishes to previous visitors, including said madmouse and mouselet, kizzie and family, NanaNina, Butterpie and another name which eludes me just now, but am hoping you'll find your way to this new part of the Cybergarden
and continue visiting in the New Year, along with hob's time-travelling cat Her Felinity and her welcome associate ndt (next-door's-tom), who visit us quite often, bringing gifts of Thanks when they remember, instead of the usual dead rodents which they know are unwelcome in the cybergarden.

Have just had lovely large lunch, plus Skype visit from rest of relatives, so will have a little potter round RL garden, hoping all is well and welcoming now in cybergarden's summerhouse.

Glad your family made it over , upward , and that we're at the end off the week so possibility of attending appt is very close now .

Another one very much not wishing to pry but concerned you feel it is wrong to discuss it - am sure you will think it over when you have a chance , and hope you have a restful weekend , with some pleasant times . Agree that you really have done amazingly to have got through this week

Hospital still closed to most visitors but FIL & SIL were allowed to have a long visit today . Doctors concerned about the dipping in & out of reality so ordered another scan , which was again clear , but I think some dementia may be present , and have been aggravated . More serious again , chest infection has taken hold which needs regular suction to clear throat , so although pneumonia etc has been overcome regularly in recent years , this somehow looks a bit more dangerous , but perhaps not ... doctors really lovely

We took an unplanned trip to that village I've mentioned before where generations of dh's ancestors lived , and bumped into our friend there , who kidnapped us for a visit - just as his DW had waved off last of Christmas visitors & was full of cold Xmas Shock They were so exactly what we needed - hilarious dog and cat included .

Then a very comforting walk round churchyard , followed by glimpses into glowing cottage windows Xmas Smile

< hob books group visit for cybergardeners , including villagers' homemade chocolate cake >

cityhobgoblin · 30/12/2011 21:03

Oops , missed your post , Nilgiri- excellent idea . Thank you for Brew , shodatin

shodatin · 30/12/2011 22:29

Don't know if we were on the same thread Nilgiri, but I remember suggesting writing stuff down for GP if badly stressed, and surprised no-one had mentioned it earlier. That was about my first post, I remember.

A group visit to the special village sounds like a good idea, hob,
particularly if including homemade chocolate cake plus dog and cat of character, but I'd need HF's time-machine for travel arrangements. Glad you had a good visit and a laugh with friends, it's some relief from your MiL's situation, which must be worrying.

Am glad you're feeling OK now upward, and am sure you'll be able to decide the best thing to do about an appointment when it's nearer the time, when your own consultant's available again. Hope all went well with your relative's visit, and that you still had a spoon or two in reserve.

Saying goodnight now, eyes want to close.

OP posts:
Nilgiri · 31/12/2011 02:35

Aargh! Just lost long message!

But mostly it said, hope MIL improving, hob, and thank you for wonderful Dickensian Christmas scene.

Good luck finding the perfect birthday present-to-self, just as DH would wish, shodatin.

And got any plans for the weekend, upward - or are you grabbing incredibly well-earned dormouse time?

shodatin · 31/12/2011 09:56

Morning all - Was that lost message something about how to deal with glitter which has got into one's nest, Nilgiri? Had not planned to join in with fashionable diamante effect on private bits, but it's certainly something different and thought-provoking first thing in the morning...
Desperately need some Brew, (makes enough for lots of still-sleepy people), and enjoys glimpse of sun in misty sky, reminding self we've now passed the shortest day and are officially on way to Spring. (I think)

OP posts:
Upwardandonward · 31/12/2011 13:43

Thanks for the Brew

shodatin · 31/12/2011 13:49

Hi upward, Hope you had a decent sleep and are now recovered from Christmas. Do you celebrate New Year?
My DH once got out of bed while I was dozing, and came back with tray of champagne etc, but apart from that, I can't remember staying up for it (old misery emoticon)

OP posts:
Upwardandonward · 31/12/2011 13:59

I'm very tired, wont be doing NY. That was nice of you rDH.

shodatin · 31/12/2011 15:42

Hope you manage a good sleep upward, and are not bothered by people ringing bells and setting off fireworks around midnight - at least same noisy ones won't be up early and revving engines on way to work, so we can sleep in.
Re DH bringing champagne for New Year - he knew I wouldn't appreciate being woken up without the champagne... Have always turned off phone ringer to discourage people from calling me, but am usually still up these days so it doesn't matter. Am still baffled by the jollity and never feel any different on the first day, and this year I've misplaced my new calendar so am even more grumpy than usual, but will fill in diary and transfer before I forget.

OP posts:
Upwardandonward · 31/12/2011 20:28

Thanks shodatin, I'm hoping for a good sleep too, for me and everyone else.

I hope NYE/NY goes well for everyone on the thread.

cityhobgoblin · 31/12/2011 22:56

Hope you have a peaceful sleep , upward , and thank you &shodatin for keeping cybergarden so cheerful today... I know you said this week New Year isn't easy , and am sure you've lsmiled as much as I have at shodatin's so - called grumpiness ( sympathies on misplaced calendar )

So sorry to be unsociable this week - all pretty bit hectic today but a big improvement for MIL , as yesterday she was not very lucid at all & having problems with eyes and chest infection dreadful , but this evening 's visit was lovely , and she was more fun than the average NYE partygoer . Seems the infection was causing much of her confusion .... dreading weeks of hospital ( at best ) , but today has been a big surprise

Met an old friend by chance , which DH enjoyed , and managed a walk in the woods , where loads of people were out frolicking
Hope Nilgiri has been having a largely good day, and many sympathies for lost post

That's lovely about DH and the , shodatin- NYE always reminds me of my Mum & Dad who couldn't resist waking me to celebrate at midnightfgrin]
Nowadays I like to think of it as part of Christmas time , & try to ignore the pressurising ideas which cause extra stress

< smelling salts for fellow dormice aghast at modern day uses for glitter >

shodatin · 31/12/2011 23:15

Such good news about your MiL hob, I was a bit worried after yesterday's bulletin and can imagine the relief you must have felt today.
I seem to have missed any pressurising ideas for New Year, so am not stressed thankyou, and hope upward can see it as part of Christmas holiday break if it's been a bit difficult in the past. My Sundays are usually relaxed, except when it's my turn to phone a friend and I've forgotten, so I reckon I'll be back with the usual complement of spoons by Monday, when I get help in the house again and life should be back to normal.
Glad that hob and DH got a walk in the woods today, and hope that upward and Nilgiri had something nice today too.
I know it's early, but am off to bed as more comfortable, and wish everyone a goodnight.

Couldn't switch off without wishing all a Happy New Year!

OP posts:
cityhobgoblin · 01/01/2012 01:21

Peaceful sleep to you , shodatin, and may I say a heartfelt thank you from us all for your wise & cheering thoughts this week on unhelpful ideas about new years , and the possibilities within the random , unsung day

Thank you so much for thinking of MIL - looked very bad indeed yesterday but she seems very happy to spend time with famly so that's already another very special memory for us

Was wondering just now how on earth all who have helpers in , have been managing during the long fetive season , so am glad you'll have some one in soon , shodatin

Hope Nilgiri has been able spend some time on frivolity today , and that we all have replenished spoon drawers

< HF nuzzles all cybergardeners in turn >
Wishing you peace and joy in 2012 , madmouse , kizzie and NanaNina

cityhobgoblin · 01/01/2012 01:23

Thank you , shodaqtin ! Very Happy New Year to you !! Argh at just missing you < waves frantically as shodatin shuts down >

Nilgiri · 01/01/2012 02:52

Xmas Shock I had no thoughts of sparkles in, ahem, private fur!

So glad to hear MIL improved and enjoying her visitors, hob. I know it's exhausting being so relentlessly positive (as one has to be), so I hope you're both getting enough rest and recharge - walk in the woods sounds just the thing.

How annoying to have misplaced your calendar, shodatin. Put away when tidying for Christmas guests, perhaps? Very glam of DH to wake you with champagne!

My NYs are usually more like Upward's, but I slept today so am still up (aarggh, at ridiculous times having spent 3/4 hr writing this post! Get a grip, woman!)

So, Happy New Year, and very best wishes to all for 2012.

Upwardandonward · 01/01/2012 09:43

Happy New Year everyone!

If I can be, I'm glad that infection was causing confusion, hob

I'm glad your help will be returning, shodatin , I've had mine throughout.

I hope you found some sleep soon after posting, Nilgiri

shodatin · 01/01/2012 09:49

Morning all, and many thanks for all the good wishes (whispers something privately to HF, who just looks smug).
Extra thanks to Nilgiri, who seems to be taking care of practical things at summerhouse, just as tianc did.
Makes usual strong coffee for self, and tray of usual "upward*'s magic Brew with Biscuits and a few rather sparkly marshmallows, determined not to think where they might have been...
Lovely sunny Firstday morning (old Friends' word seems appropriate), although wind is rising already as forecast.

Hoping that upward had a long and refreshing sleep in preparation for a calm and relaxing day before the noisy old world starts up again on Monday - or Tuesday, depending on others.
Am content to be short-sighted at present, so am not noticing lack of housekeeping at home, but am looking forward to calendar-buying on first-possible day, ie Tuesday.

shodatin · 01/01/2012 12:19

Happy New Year! I seem to have crossed with upward, as was hoping you'd had a decent sleep. Your help must be really good, if you're happy to have her in every day and she doesn't mind working over the holiday; it's not just what people do to help, of course, it's what they're like to have around, and it probably takes time (or luck?) to find someone congenial, although I can't really complain here.

OP posts:
Upwardandonward · 01/01/2012 13:12

I have carers paid for by SS, shodatin (for the basics), but they are generally good. Sorry I didn't come back once I posted, I'm hoping for more sleep tonight maybe.

Day by day seems a good way to take the next few days, here's some Brew and Biscuit for whoever wants.

shodatin · 01/01/2012 14:15

Thanks for the refreshments upward, and please don't apologise for not posting, I know it can be difficult for most of us on this thread, particularly when short of sleep. One Day At a Time is so useful, I used it as base of my MN name (and still have problems remembering).

OP posts:
Upwardandonward · 01/01/2012 15:17

I'm slightly perturbed, someone's cut pages out of a puzzle book I was doing. Hmm

shodatin · 01/01/2012 15:36

That is an odd thing, upward. Have you had it long?
(Thinks may be an assistant at shop not wanting to buy book or steal a whole one).

OP posts:
Upwardandonward · 01/01/2012 16:00

That's a good point, shodatin - it was all the competitions, had since before Christmas.
