Starting a new thread as I accidentally filled up the old one.

Here’s a link to the old one: www.mumsnet.com/talk/fasting_diet/4570776-blood-sugar-diet-fast-800-diet-thread-24

Hope everyone finds this and look forward to welcoming newcomers to the thread too!

Sounds great @Anewagain

I have been working over lunchtime today so I am now cooking, and enjoying the aromas as I make the low carb minestrone from the fast 800 app.

It's actually my favourite recipe I think. It's just so wholesome and lovely tasting.

And yes, the sunshine helps my mood too! I just bounded into work and smiled at everyone ☀️

MistySkiesAreGone · 21/05/2023 19:42

So I just did a cholestrol test and my bad cholestrol has gone up 15%. The overall ratio has improved 17% and total cholestrol has gone down 5% and good cholestrol has gone up 10%.

I'm not sure what to do but I'm gonna probably switch to 0% yoghurt half the month as I do eat a fair amount of yoghurt. I'll also probably try not to cook with olive oil and just drizzle less on instead. I probably need to watch cheese e.g. smaller portions or a couple of times a week. Same with eggs. And keep increasing beans and oily fish. I'll defo keep good fats in every meal though. I'm gonna do another test in maybe 3 months. I have it monitored due to a medication that is linked to increased cholestrol. The last thing I want is to be told to go low fat 😕

Anewagain · 22/05/2023 07:44

I’m not very clued up on cholesterol @MistySkiesAreGone but sounds like you’re on top of it in terms of what to do. Hope you’re able to bring it down and that the next test is more encouraging.

Thanks @Anewagain .

Soldiering on still with the same 4.5lbs to lose. I'm hoping after my period energy will pick up and subsequently more exercise. I'm also much less interested in carbs after my period 😂 At the moment feeling a bit ... miserable is the wrong word as it's lovely and sunny ... but under the weather with hay fever.

Anewagain · 24/05/2023 10:14

Well done @MistySkiesAreGone. I am back in the swing of the things, recovered after Easter/bank holidays and managing well again, starting to see good progress … just as half term arrives! I’m going to try to hold it together this holiday. Summer is just around the corner. Sorry about the hay fever.

MistySkiesAreGone · 26/05/2023 14:02

Well done @Anewagain for picking it up again and hopefully you can make good choices over halfterm.

I think the hayfever turned out to be electrolyte imbalance. Whatever it was, it's fixed. I had an entire celeriac made into chips and salted with seabass and greens and that seemed to help, and a massive fruit salad and greek yoghurt.

Still 4.7lbs to lose, hanging around here forever. Happily loving my food though and I think after my period I'll lean into some fasts- confident I can shift another 4lbs this month and maybe 3 of those will stay off! So all good progress.

Tunneltiger · 26/05/2023 17:19

Hello!
Very motivating to see @Anewagain @MistySkiesAreGone sticking to it!
It is a while since I posted here perhaps I'm avoiding a bit of accountability in a month of birthdays anniversary and holiday. Managed to navigate through it all and despite enjoying the occasions and stalling for three weeks I have managed to get back to it and the weight is crawling off once more. In the past a couple of lapses would have led to a complete unravelling but cutting right down on alcohol seems to have made a huge difference to my resilience. I have consumed wine on 9 days this year so far and now find I can't drink more than a glass without feeling ropey.

I have 16lbs left to go and am trying to roughly stick to 800 cals during the week with a bit more at weekends. I am struggling with the carbs though. Even cutting our the worst culprits: bread, pasta, rice, I am posting around 50g on my 800 calorie days. Part of the problem is home made yoghurt which is good for the protein but is relatively carby. I do like it though and with soft fruit season here it is very difficult to resist.....
Good luck everyone and keep on keeping on.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 27/05/2023 10:07

Morning all!

@Anewagain, half term is tricky! I’m in Scotland so it doesn’t affect me, but we’ve had so many bank holidays that it feels like the kids are never at school.

@MistySkiesAreGone, you’re so nearly there! Is your target lower than BMI 25? Your celeriac chips and sea bass sound amazing.

@Tunneltiger, great progress! I’ve got 15 lbs to go to be a healthy weight so very similar. I need to learn from your low alcohol approach - it’s definitely alcohol that derails me!

I’m plugging away, slowed down by nights out/bank holidays etc, though. I go on holiday in a week, and if I can manage one more pound I will be exactly a stone down from my last holiday a year ago. My total loss now since January is 21 lbs, and my holiday clothes look so much better than they did this time last year!

MistySkiesAreGone · 01/06/2023 00:10

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar yes my target is lower than bmi 25. Hence not been doing 800 calories.

I had movement! It took a day of 1000 calories and 75g carb but I lost a pound. I reckon I can keep it up on around 1000 calories until Sunday, then I'm going back to maintenance.

MistySkiesAreGone · 05/06/2023 13:15

How is everyone doing? I lost a pound in my last mini fast. I fluctuate up and down but my goal is to keep it off until my next drop. Back on maintenance cals for 5 or 6 days, then I'll do another 4 day fast.

I'm pretty happy with this current weight with the last pound that went off. I have stubborn hip fat, but it comes off everywhere, so I'm thinking may accept the jiggle! I'm hoping to get a little into running 5 or 10km which may help. They say you can't target fat but could try some side abs to try and tone it.

Originally thought I'd want to lose another 2.5lbs but feel a little indifferent, I suppose it gives me a buffer if I do.

Anyway gonna hold steady for a bit then do one more series of fasts. Nice problems to have!

Went to a party at the weekend and was very good, had a sliver of cheesecake and pavlova, but everything else was on plan and I've maintained with 200g fluctuation/gain. Drank Dash drinks all evening, they are great as fizzy and fruity but zero cals or sweeteners.

Had overnight oats, mango and blackbean slaw, and beetroot brownie today which is about 1100 cals. Tonight is blackbean beef stirfry. Added chicken, skyr yoghurt and two egg white omelette as trying to up the protein as I signed up with a personal trainer, we had one session and my goodness she had me doing heavier weights than I am used to, so trying to up the calories (she said 1900 to start, I've prob had 1650 on my biggest days, I sit down for vast swathes of time at work...) and protein (she said 140g !)

MistySkiesAreGone · 05/06/2023 17:34

Oh wow went to use the gym machine and my body fat % is now 26.6% down from 28.2% a couple of weeks ago. I did one of those calculator things and it said my ideal body weight is 1.5lb less than current, so I think that's my aim. With that in mind, I think I'm gonna leave the thread now as I've achieved my goals (or will after my next fast) and it's definitely time for me to focus on reaching the maintenance calories and building muscle mass up. Good luck everyone, if I can do it anyone can!

Justdontknowwhattothink · 05/06/2023 22:07

May i join you?
I started 1May and have lost 9lbs which i am very happy with.
Had a bit of a problem today were i had eaten 482 calories 10.9 carbs and 65.4 protein.
this wasn’t the plan but was invited out yesterday so needed to use the steak today.
then i was hungry at 9pm so had a small avocado high calories low protein,
What would you have eaten to get the calories up?

Phlegmatic · 10/06/2023 10:02

Joining thread please. I have 20 lbs to lose and am in my 50s. My waist is 38 inches and I really want to get it as close to 30 inches as I can.

Gave up alcohol on Sunday as I realised after 5 years of trying to lose weight off and on that where I was going wrong was the wine/crisps/bread/cheese/dips show that started after dinner on the sofa.

I have the fast 800 books and love the food, it’s what I eat anyway, the key thing for me is not to stray and start adding in the bread and wine.

xraydelta · 11/06/2023 10:35

Welcome @Phlegmatic

I'm afraid I am in a slump, but I will emerge!

Well done for giving up the alcohol 🙌🏻

Phlegmatic · 11/06/2023 18:29

Thanks @xraydelta .

LaSelkie · 13/06/2023 18:33

Hi all, I'm wondering if anything changes when you're in your period. Does MM allow for this on any way or do we just plough on?

Phlegmatic · 14/06/2023 13:33

Just checking in to say I’ve lost 3 lbs in 4 days sticking strictly to the rules.

It’s very quiet on here, hope I haven’t killed the thread!

@LaSelkie no idea, I am fairly new to this. In my experience the week before my period I want more food but the week it starts I feel calm and able to be strict. It probably evens things out.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 15/06/2023 13:23

Welcome and well done on losses so far to @Phlegmatic, @Justdontknowwhattothink and @LaSelkie!

MM doesn't make any allowance for period week, but in practice I tend to be ravenous the day or two before and then calm down a bit, so if I have to have an extra snack then I do. My go-to extra snack is either Greek yoghurt with whatever berries we have in, or slices of cheese with cherry tomatoes/cucumber.

I have been on holiday, got back on Sun and have spent all this week saying 'tomorrow I will get back to it'. I really have tried today, though - week 8 run 3 of Couch 2 5k this morning, and tuna salad with edamame beans (and the remnants of the mozzarella pearls) for lunch. Dinner will be Caesar salad. I haven't weighed in yet, but I had achieved my pre-holiday goal of having exactly 1 stone to go. After all the wine, beer and crisps of the holiday week I'm probably back up a bit, but I'm starting properly again on Mon with this week to ease myself in a bit. I'm going to a wedding on Sat so not much point cracking down too hard before then.

My new goal is to lose 11 lbs by my next trip in September, which seems very possible. 11 weeks = 11 lbs while allowing for slip-ups and nights out, good weeks and bad. On this diet some people lose 3lbs a week but not me.

LaSelkie · 18/06/2023 19:29

Ffs please make me feel better. As well as doing fast800 I've been avoiding ultra processed foods and I made the kids their own ice cream. I have my period and have been craving bad stuff so had several ice cream binges this week. Dutifully logged and starved myself elsewhere. But now I realise I'd inputted the quantities all wrong into MFP and for the last 4-5 days I've been consuming shitloads via the condensed milk on the ice cream whilst thinking I was on target. Now I feel really demotivated and mad!

Phlegmatic · 18/06/2023 21:15

@LaSelkie weight loss is a maddening endeavour, just dust yourself off and try again. I had lost a stone by mid February after 6 weeks of dieting, it was a brilliant start. What did I do, regained it in 5 minutes of chilling (that’s what it felt like), straight back to square one. People who succeed at giving up a bad habit successfully have almost always tried and failed several times before it stuck. You now know condensed milk is a no. Try again. I am on a weekend away which being a good polite guest has meant I have only eaten what has been out in front of me - carb heavy meals. I will be ditching the carbs tomorrow evening when I return home.

LaSelkie · 18/06/2023 21:18

Thank you @Phlegmatic , I needed that! Good luck next week too :-)

Chunkymonkey123 · 23/06/2023 10:52

Hello all! It’s gone a bit quiet but I’m logging in to be accountable!
Back on fast 800 for the 5th time now. It’s worked well before and since Christmas I have put on a stone! Not sure what has happened as I was always good at hoovering around my set weight before.
I’ve got 12 days before I’m away next with work so I am going to try and do as many as possible.
Brunch: Eggs and mackerel
Dinner: Chicken thighs and veg

Chunkymonkey123 · 28/06/2023 10:00

So I’ve done 5 days so far and lost 5 pounds which is great. 7 more days to go! If I’ve lost 8 pounds then my plan is to do 5:2 for the last 6

Phlegmatic · 28/06/2023 11:29

@Chunkymonkey123 well done! This thread is very quiet. I slid back to my bad habits and regained 5 lbs. Trying again as of today.

RagzRebooted · 28/06/2023 15:55

I'm on day 10, first weigh in I'd lost 7.9lbs in the first week. Going well, finding it really easy but still in the early momentum phase!
