@xraydelta sounds great whatever it is!

@Tailrunner I struggled yesterday and it was a bit of a write off....but on and up. Hope the curry hit the spot.

Thanks for all the support on the thread. Coming to terms with failing at the moment! I think the learning has to be hold off before breaking the Fast800, try not to go completely off plan.

I also could have done with realising how much work stress affects me, gonna take advantage of our work EAP programme.

Anewagain · 18/04/2023 07:28

@Tunneltiger The spicy beef tacos are in the easy recipe book and are a regular meal for us - because they’re so easy! Hope you’re feeling better now.

Glad you’ve had a good start with @TooExtraImmatureCheddar I had a good and easy first day back on plan and am down 1lb this morning.

Wellcome back @xraydelta The mind boggles as to what the heat and exertion means - I’m imagining you doing an ultra marathon in a dessert!

Sorry things are stressful and that you feel like you’re failing @MistySkiesAreGone You sound like you’re working hard and that it’s a good idea to make use of any support.

it was a busy day yesterday but I did well though I woke very early which I often do when restarting Fast 800 and feel hungrier than usual this morning. Happy to be 1lb down.

Bit despondent - still 2lbs up from my end of March best weight. It’s been ages! I’m never down on a Tuesday, though - I eat at 9.30 after a late class. Fingers crossed for progress tomorrow.

MistySkiesAreGone · 19/04/2023 09:03

Feel much better today, bad case of Tuesday blues. Got some good (unwarranted but I will take it) feedback at work.

Overate everything yesterday, but for dinner I had the Celeriac omelette - really good and cheap. Doing physio for a hamstring niggle in the evenings.

I'm WFH for two days which should help me get back on plan, so plan is to stay on plan (!) for next two days, and Friday morning I have swimming.

MistySkiesAreGone · 19/04/2023 10:36

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar you are doing so well, stick with it and progress will happen in no time for sure!

MistySkiesAreGone · 19/04/2023 10:38

@Anewagain well done on your 1lb loss! Every lb counts.

MercianQueen · 19/04/2023 11:04

Hello everyone, hope you don't mind me joining you.

I lost 1.5 stone on Fast 800 in 2019 and kept it off until lockdown basically forced me to eat cheese and drink wine. Since then, a combination of continued post-lockdown malaise and what I suspect is perimenopause has completely killed off any motivation I've had for anything - work, exercise or looking after myself (and I used to be a highly motivated person!)

Anyway, after topping out at 11.9 stone at the weekend (I'm 5.5) and FINALLY getting a drs appointment for HRT this week, I am back on it with a vengeance! My plan is to 4:3 it, but not go mad at the weekend, just have a glass of wine if I want one, slightly larger portions of the same food, maybe a wholemeal pitta etc.

I'm also back on C25K (I used to run ultramarathons a few years ago, now a mile is a stretch!) and ideally I'd like to get back to closer to 9.5 stone.

I'm pescatarian and genuinely love the food on Fast800 - just need to keep the motivation going!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 19/04/2023 12:59

Thanks @MistySkiesAreGone. I'm down 1.5lbs this morning so fingers crossed that by tomorrow that last stubborn half pound is gone!

Welcome @MercianQueen, great to have you! I've been doing this since Jan and lost 18lbs, but I still have lots to shed. I'm 5'2" and hovering just above 11 stone, and I really need to get to 9.5 at least. Tbh anything under 10.10 would be amazing for me, though. I'm past my first 12 week stage but am still trying to stick to the meals - measurements have got a bit less precise and there have been a lot of Easter-related slips so it hasn't been hard grind all the time.

Couch 2 5k week 1 run 2 done!

Tailrunner · 19/04/2023 22:56

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar - fingers crossed that last half pound has disappeared in the morning.

@MercianQueen welcome! I ran an ultramarathon a couple of years ago too (very slowly) but I lost my motivation afterwards and am now back running 1-2 miles and trying to build up. It's such hard work but I've booked a few races to keep me going. It'll be good to hear how you get on.

@MistySkiesAreGone glad you are feeling better and over the Tuesday blues. You are doing so well. I'm the opposite with WFH, my day is structured at work but when I'm home I can snack anytime so I find it harder to stick to plan.

@Anewagain I'm going to add those beef tacos to my meal plan next week, they sound delicious.

@xraydelta I'm also intrigued by the heat and exertion - imagining some kind of race across the desert...hope you've recovered!

I promised myself I was going to stop weighing every day as I was getting fed up of the scales saying the same thing. Lasted 48 hours then cracked and stepped on this morning but they said -3lbs so I'm very pleased. 7lbs to the next stone bracket is my next mini goal.

xraydelta · 19/04/2023 23:16

Bugger it 😂

@Tailrunner and @Anewagain you are almost completely spot on 😂

It was 100km through the Sahara.

I’ll have to name change at some stage now 😜

i’ve not restarted Fast 800 yet BUT I have just signed up for the Zoe trial with a blood sugar monitor this evening. It won’t be shipped until July and I am ignoring the stupid cost by spreading it over several months. But it REALLY want to know how my body is reacting to sugar to try and work out what it best for me long term.

MistySkiesAreGone · 19/04/2023 23:38

That's fascinating @xraydelta . Very in awe of your marathon. I've just read the Zoe website and I'd be interested to do that.

Tailrunner · 20/04/2023 06:45

Sorry we've outed you @xraydelta but that sounds incredible! You are amazing. I'm scottish so I find running or trekking in the English summer a challenge 😉. 100km in the Sahara is such an achievement.

MistySkiesAreGone · 20/04/2023 08:44

9st 13.8 today. I didn't post it but I actually ate maintenance calories in the end yesterday, following mediterranean diet principles and watching macros. And I still lost weight! Thrilled as it shows me when I transition I can eat more and not gain.

Today is creamy green smoothie, Celeriac omelette, lamb saag which I made last night. Feel cheerier.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 20/04/2023 10:43

11.1.4! Back to pre-Easter weight, just in time to go away for another weekend, but hey. Wearing a skirt that’s been too small for three years, which is lovely.

@xraydelta, impressed by your Saharan 100km! That is really incredible. I’m also very intrigued by the Zoe stuff, but was put off by the wait (and the cost).

Yay, @MistySkiesAreGone, that’s really encouraging! I know that I’ve lost weight (slowly) in the past eating more but it’s easy to get stuck thinking that I have to maintain 800 calories forever.

Anewagain · 20/04/2023 12:27

That’s incredible @xraydelta ! I was joking - I didn’t seriously think you’d be running marathons in the desert!

It has been a wobbly week back for me. Struggling to get back into the rhythm with everything.

MistySkiesAreGone · 20/04/2023 15:27

Well done @TooExtraImmatureCheddar !

I've been amazed how tough this week has been @Anewagain. May be rose tinted specs but previous weeks seem heaven in comparison!

I made some notes on recovering from a blow out (by that I mean going off plan not eating TDEE).

  1. (Just added this) Don't do it in the first place 🤣. Think we all know our limits.
  1. Rather than going straight into a fast day, do a TDEE (eating maintenance calories day), or one fast meal and one TDEE meal. Or 3-4 TDEE days. I was scared of doing one but the key I realised is that they are absolutely fine as long as mediterranean diet and portion controlled, and stick to lower carb. You should not gain weight and it helps refill the bodys nutrients. I don't think I can go into F800 from a place of feeling nutritionally empty, not without having an emotional breakdown.

Another way round it could be LOTS of good mood food meals i.e. avocado, eggs, chicken, oats etc. to cope with sugar withdrawal. I think it is tryptophan that boosts mood.

  1. Eating in a shorter window can help with hunger as you reach full feeling quicker. Though there is evening snacking to contend with!
  1. The meal plan and prep stage is key as always, plan it, prep it, log it, preferably the day before.

Its actually a condensed version of how I always get into a diet, start with maintenance calories for a bit (which are inevitably less than what I was eating as that is why I put on weight, so result in a loss), cut the junk, then when that plateaus go full tilt into F800. I wonder if this technique is in any of the books.

I've just had half the dinner of lamb saag and will try and save the other half for later. Should be 1070 cals. I made the saag wrong - meat for 2 but oil and lentils for 4, hence over today.

Honestly just grateful for each further day where I get closer back to ketosis!

MistySkiesAreGone · 21/04/2023 08:17

9 13.6 today. Ate just under my maintenance calories yesterday 1450 so 200g loss. Happy with that. I ate my breakfast as a 4th meal which I know is not allowed. Going to try and fast until midday and have 2 meals today.

Today is celeriac omelette and chicken casserole, plus a tonne of all the veg.

Good luck today everyone!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/04/2023 08:38

@MistySkiesAreGone, I do the same - have a day of good nutritious food before I can ease back into Fast 800 after a blowout. I can’t go from zero to hero like that!

Yesterday I didn’t count, but I had a Pret chicken pesto wrap (500 cals) and then homemade Greek salad with half a chicken breast and some tzatziki - I know I had too much feta but we’re going away tonight so it was only going to go off. I reckon around 1000 cals all in. Down a tiny fraction (0.2lb) this morning. NSV: ordered size 12 Zara denim shorts and they fit! Even a fraction big. Couch to 5k week 1 run 3 done this morning.

Anewagain · 21/04/2023 09:10

Thank you @MistySkiesAreGone - that’s all good advice. I’ve given myself a talking to and need to remember to be gentler and kinder and build in a bit of a buffer as I get back into things after a holiday.

OP posts:
MistySkiesAreGone · 21/04/2023 10:08

Yay to the NSV @TooExtraImmatureCheddar ! Sounds like a pretty low carby day yesterday. Have a wonderful weekend!

I'm still feeling guilty that I am not completely back on it, if I am honest.

The books says :

>If struggling have a normal eating day at the weekend (med diet and portion control).

>Alternatively, diet for two weeks then eat normally, then go back in another stage.

>Don't do huge break = headache.

I think I am over the headache bit, and I think it may be that I eat normally (med diet and portion control) and go back in another stage. I am still losing a little.

I have another week off at start of May so can do another stage then. It feels a bit mean to my body otherwise.

It may be that I have PMT this week! It is also quite hard with all these bank holidays!

MistySkiesAreGone · 21/04/2023 20:24

Closed on 1,250 cals and today was easier! I had an extra green smoothie and I split my casserole over 2 meals. I also came back from gym (not that I did much) and made the banana and pecan muffin as a dessert. I am really hoping for a little 200g loss tomorrow 🙏 I also need to do some form of exercise.

MistySkiesAreGone · 22/04/2023 08:03

Wow 9st 12.6 today so another 1lb loss! Did a lot of work yest. Slept well 8 hours. Off to Body Conditioning strength class in 8 mins. My body doesn't feel like it but I read strength training ia good for the mind in The Hormone Repair Manual.

Tailrunner · 22/04/2023 10:23

I've had a really good week food-wise. I've reached that lovely point where I'm in the swing of it but not bored yet Grin. Stepped on the scales this morning and I've lost another 4.8lbs since Monday which I'm over the moon about. That's 1st 5lbs altogether so far. Hoping to reach 1.5 stone next week and I have 5lbs to a new stone bracket. I'm really focusing on a couple of weekends away we have planned, then our holiday at the end of July to keep myself motivated. It would be lovely to buy some summer clothes in a 14 rather than the 18 I started at!

MistySkiesAreGone · 22/04/2023 14:29

@Tailrunner that's great! Well done on your loss, that's amazing. I love cooking all the different meals, I think that is part of the fun.

I've made a boo boo as I cooked the spicey bean chilli, delish, but didn't realise it was for 4 people. I thought it was 2. Thankfully I had less anyway as I was conscious I am nearing the 800 mark anyway. Not as bad as I feared, it was 400 cals, but I have now had 750 cals and its 2.30pm 🤣

I have protein allowance still to eat so I think dinner will have to be prawn courgetti spaghetti, and I will pretend the courgetti is a side dish.

MercianQueen · 22/04/2023 17:09

@xraydelta I'm in awe! Partly because I can't do anything but pant pathetically in a British summer, and partly because sand!!!! Doesn't that rub if it gets in your shoes?!

Anyway, after all your efforts I felt I couldn't let the side down. So my first week has been A Good Week. Now on a "relaxed but sensible" weekend but as of this morning I'm nearly 6 pounds lighter than last Sunday! Expecting this to tip up a bit tomorrow for the official week 1 weigh in, but I'm over the moon with that. Clearly it'll slow down, but a good and motivating start.

I've also just made a batch of the chilli seeded crackers from the keto book (crisps and savoury snacks are my downfall) and they are fantastic! Looking forward to those with the mackerel pate from the red book next week - if they last that long!
