Welcome Sunbelievable;
You were not at all harsh Santa I think some workplaces are very much as you describe! Even those that are pretty good it’s up to us to help ourselves - they’re unlikely to. We have to look after ourselves!
puffin we are carnivores but I’m trying to do a lot more veggie but so many veggie recipe books are carb heavy so thanks for the Rose Elliot recipe book recommendation - I’ll take a look. A lot of what I cook is a regular meal but without the carb element so there’s a lot of chicken/fish & veg or bolognese with veg or chilli with veg. Are tofu and pulses etc carby though?
It’s absolutely pouring it down here and feels very casserole type weather - I’d planned lots of salads this week 🙄 I also don’t want to walk the dog in this!

Puffincrossing · 08/05/2021 09:26

I found Rose Elliot's book full of recipes that I will eat but my dc definitely won't and I try to eat the same or very similar to them for ease. Last night we all had pizza, they had dough and I had RE's pizza. It's 200g low-fat cheese spread over a paper on a baking tray then mix 3 eggs with 115g low fat cream cheese, some garlic and herbs and spread over the grated cheese. Bake for 20 mins until golden, add toppings and return to oven. I couldn't pick it up and had to eat it with knife and fork but it was probably best tasting base I've had. I do a pretty good cauliflower one but it does taste of cauliflower. She uses low fat because it works better apparently, all the rest of her recipes seem to be full fat.

Tonight we're have sausage & (cauliflower) mash with green veg.

The bread recipe is 115g wheat gluten, 85g soya isolate, 55g wheat bran, 28g milled flaxseed, salt, 3tbsp oil, 12g yeast. She uses 250ml warm water but I find 300ml works best.

Tofu isn't carb-y, pulses are but they also have fibre and people who follow the more extreme keto measure their 'net carbs' which is carbs minus fibre meaning pulses are ok. MM uses beans in his recipes.

Managed to stay low carb and did well with calories for food yesterday but also had a Friday night drink and then another, and another Blush can't face the scales today so will be good today and see where I am tomorrow.

Kimlek · 08/05/2021 09:37

Thanks puffin
I’ve just weighed and 2.5lbs down this week, so happy with that.

GuessWho57 · 08/05/2021 10:57

Right. So. I got that book on my kindle and read a bit. Life then got hectic and I haven’t read much more. BUT - I have been REALLY good for a week now....

.....and I think it’s paying off Grin

Weighed in last Saturday at 11st 0.2lbs

Weighed in this Saturday at 10st 8.6lbs

I am feeling very motivated by this. It’s been bloody ages since I was below 10st 10lbs.

So I haven’t been following the fast 800 principles, but have had a couple of their recipes and reduced carbs and sugar but not cut out completely, and have stuck to the 1200 cals on MFP and 2 litres of water per day. I guess I’m basically eating less and being a bit more conscious of what I’m shoving in my gob. I will still keep reading the book though as would like to see if I can reduce my eating window.

Not gonna lie, I’ve been hungry. But I’ve been busy and distracted with work and turn tapping into a bit of much needed willpower, though not loads. It has been an effort but I feel like I WANT and that I CAN, which is half the battle.

I find weekends the hardest tbh so let’s see how today goes. And we have a bbq to go to tomorrow so already dreading undoing all this.

PhoenixMama · 08/05/2021 11:12

Ok so weigh in this week and I'm down 5lbs and nearly 7 over all. Weirdly I'm up some inches and basically only down in my bust Hmm Out for lunch with DD today so haven't had any breakfast and will hold out til later. Need to do my menu plan today. I've not done yoga daily this week and I can tell I'm not as firmed up as when I do so I'm going to get back at it. I've also not run this week, mostly because I'm slightly depressed and this weather isn't helping. I just really need some sun and fresh air.

Well done @Kimlek!

texican · 08/05/2021 11:59

Hi everyone,

Welcome @tweetypi and @Sunbelievable!

Ok, I'm one night down in my 'not drinking weekend' which feels like conquering Everest after the last few weekends. We went to sister-in-law's garden (big drinkers) but I made sure I drove so wasn't tempted and it was great to wake this morning without a hangover. Had some 0% Heineken (probably not low carb at all but definitely filled a spot) and ate generally low carb dinner (small amount of potato salad) so feeling virtuous. Apart from the crisps 🙈 bought some Blood Orange FeverTree soda to try tonight as a treat. It's v....orange coloured!

@PhoenixMama great loss this week. You've done better than my 1.5lb this week!! Am in touching distance of my lowest weight which is my incentive for not drinking this weekend. We can do this!!

@DrMadelineMaxwell and @Puffincrossing glad what is working for you feels sustainable. I am approaching it in a similar way to be honest, as I know my usual all or nothing approach will not help me long term. Trying to re-educate myself a bit as well.

Have a great weekend all!

Kimlek · 08/05/2021 12:00

That sounds hugely positive @GuessWho57 and well done you! At the BBQ stick to lots of salads and veg with a the proteins and avoid potatoes/rice/burger buns. Enjoy!!
Well done phoenix 5lb in one week is great. Do you still do Adriene’s yoga? I always mean to try it.

texican · 08/05/2021 12:08

Annoyingly my app hadn't shown lots of this mornings posts to also well done @Kimlek for your loss this week!

Another book which is also good is The Right Carb. I liked it more for maintenance as there are some Mediterranean friendly carbs (eg sourdough) but there's some really interesting different meals in there with a focus on balance. It's also quite pretty!

Sunbelievable · 09/05/2021 19:11

Urghh. The recipe book is annoying me not giving more exact calories than "under 400" or whatever.

I need to spend time adding them up.

Anyway, I had the Greek salad made exactly as per the 800 recipe book for lunch, with a few sticks of mange tout and hummus, no breakfast, no snacks, just black coffee and lots of water. For dinner, I had a three (small) egg smoked salmon and cream cheese omelette and I am resisting a glass of wine and one single square of 85% dark chocolate.

I can safely guess I am just under 800 with that, so will continue to resist wine and have a cup of mint tea instead.

I hope everyone's weekend went well.

Sunbelievable · 09/05/2021 19:20

PS I had a huge pile of steamed broccoli as well, but I am not calorie counting green vegetables.

PhoenixMama · 09/05/2021 20:52

Hi All - I don't know what's going on with me but I'm so bloated at the moment. Only had 1 meal yesterday, Mexican but not crazy carbs, no booze and walked 20k steps - up 2lbs this morning.

Back at it tomorrow but getting very frustrating!

LotsOfTrees · 10/05/2021 07:00

I lost 1.75lbs in week 4 which doesn’t feel like a lot compared to other weeks - and it felt much harder work. I’ve also been waking up really early every day (as in 3 or 4am!) and struggling to get back to sleep. I have lost 21lbs overall though.

Polkadotties · 10/05/2021 09:44

Hello all. I posted on this thread at the beginning of the year, I went from 14.10 to to 13.2 in just over a month. And then I fell off the diet wagon. I’ve tried several times to restart but my mind hasn’t been on it. That changes today.
Weighed myself this morning at 13.11. I know this way of eating works and posting here for accountability

Tinselandlights · 10/05/2021 10:58

I bought the recipe book yesterday for a bit of inspiration!

Which are the best recipes?

Sunbelievable · 10/05/2021 11:56

@Tinselandlights ignore my previous post about the recipe book. I discovered the exact calorie count on the page after all 🙈

I liked the green salad yesterday, and am doing the salmon tray bake with sesame seeds later.

Will think what else I have tried...

PhoenixMama · 10/05/2021 12:39

Welcome back @Polkadotties!

@Tinselandlights Which of the cookbooks did you buy? I prefer the BSD one to the Fast800 but I'll flag some recipes when you confirm which one! Agree with @Sunbelievable that the salmon bake is yum!

Puffincrossing · 10/05/2021 19:17

Well best laid plans and all that! After overly boozy Friday we had a lot of work to do around the house and dh talked me into a take away curry with rice and bread. Can't remember the last time I had rice. I realise I haven't missed it. Anyway, I still can't face the scales. I have been back on it today with my protein, carbs and fat almost perfect so hoping any weekend damage will be fixed soon.

Lots week 4 seems to be a challenge for most people so don't be disheartened. The weight loss should pick up again soon.

We like the cauliflower cheese and korma from BSD.

I use both cookbooks and have cooked most of the recipes. WINNERS- I make the bolognese all the time but add extra veg and simmer it for ages. My girls like the stuffed peppers. The ginger salmon bake is also a winner. Seedy flapjacks are way too yummy! The fish on lentils is fabulous. LOSERS - there’s a pork dish that’s not great (but I always struggle with pork) and a lasagne that uses cabbage leaves.
Polkadotties · 10/05/2021 22:14

Has the chicken wrapped in Parma ham from the recipe book for dinner. One of my favourites.

texican · 11/05/2021 07:18

Morning all,

Am grumpy and knackered this week so not exactly a delight to be around! I'm trying to be quite strict though to build on my whole weekend of not drinking! - wasn't so difficult in the end as had my covid jab on Saturday morning so spent most of the weekend feeling grotty with food & drink quite far from my desired agenda really. Every little helps I suppose!

Had left over red Thai curry (mainly veg) for lunch yesterday and the beef mince taco bake in lettuce leaves for dinner which was a tasty day. Today I think lunch will be some sort of salad maybe with cottage cheese, and dinner probably Mexican scramble (chorizo, peppers, onions, mushrooms, eggs, Cajun seasoning) and salad.

@PhoenixMama that sounds really frustrating. Try to judge it week by week though rather than letting the fluctuations of the day be too annoying as if you're anything like me days can fluctuate so wildly they can really bring my mood down. I like weighing every day so I know the fluctuations are just that, but they can still depress me even when I know it's just my body! @Puffincrossing it sounds like being straight back on it will help a lot, and means hopefully that you're at that aspirational place of 'balance'. Let me know what it's like there 🙈

Hope you all have a good day. I'd quite like to just pull the covers back over my head and go back to sleep, but have an entire day of back to back zooms. YAY. (Grumpy. Knackered).

traintraveller · 11/05/2021 07:48

Morning all, Finally took measurements yesterday and I'm only a couple of inches smaller than when I first started BSD in 2018 but will keep doing them weekly. I'm now on week 4 and progress seems much slower this time around even though food wise I've been good.
Tried on my wedding dress yesterday, couldn't get the zip up but I'm not even sure I like it anymore. I've got 6 months until the wedding.
So adding in proper exercise rather than pissing about, egg salad for lunch and roast cauliflower dahl for dinner and I really need to lay off the wine

LotsOfTrees · 11/05/2021 08:43

Thanks for the encouragement @Puffincrossing, hope you’re right. Well done for getting stuck back in. That’s a good reminder to take measurements @traintraveller.

PhoenixMama · 11/05/2021 08:44

Morning - down a few lbs but still feeling annoyed at myself and my body. I feel like regardless of how much I restrict I still mess up and bounce straight back up. The first time I did this I had so much more to lose so it came off quickly and now if I'm a tiny bit over 800 I gain. Maybe because I'm not out and about any more so not wracking up steps sat at my desk at home?

Recipes we love - the korma, stuffed peppers, goats cheese & pea courgetti, the green duck pancakes in BSD, the rosemary lamb & salmon in the 800 one - and the biriyani in whichever one it is!

Tinselandlights · 11/05/2021 09:15

Weighed in this morning after three weeks and I've lost 10.75 lbs - down to 10 stone 7.

I can't seem to get into ketosis but had porridge and rice noodles yesterday which I can't think help much!

Sunbelievable · 11/05/2021 10:10

Morning.

I am feeling a bit deflated as I have not had any kind of "whoosh" this time. Even if it were just water, surely I should have seen something 🙄

But onwards and downwards hopefully.

I am having the last of my greek salads for lunch which is already in a jar in the fridge, and am making the chicken strips with polenta from the 800 recipe book this evening.

I am also finding it a bit harder this time as there is only me and one child at home, and fairly limited freezer space. DC was up for eating the salmon sesame bake last night (although left all the tomatoes because they were cooked 🤷🏻‍♀️), but in general, I need to eat the same meal at least a couple of times, which is boring. Having no hungry teens to palm the leftovers off onto is annoying 😆

I have a question for those who love the Parma ham wrapped chicken. How do you get one piece of Parma ham to wrap around the flattened chicken breast? That bit baffles me 😆 but I want to make them again this weekend.
