Thank you Tinsel! I think I’ll re-read that comment many times over the first three days. Do you think you’ll carry on past the initial three weeks for the full 12?

Tinselandlights · 01/05/2021 08:16

I'm definitely going to do my very best to stick the whole 12 weeks! It took three days to get back into ketosis after having carbs on Tuesday that I'm going to try to do it well so I get used to the new habit.

It is genuinely manageable in a way I never found the original 5:2 - I got a bit anxious on only 500 calories and kept waking up hungry.

Puffincrossing · 01/05/2021 09:16

tinsel the book does acknowledge that you made need the odd treat but MM doesn't like sweeteners so his treats tend to be fruit based and I just can't be satisfied with some dates and nuts squished together ir the equivalent of 1 large chocolate button! Keto shortbread as a very rare treat is what I have when the need hits.

The book also allows the odd slice of toast and says you can have small amounts when on maintenance. I use Rose Elliott's high protein, low carb bread recipe. I think it 3.1g a slice and has fibre too. I've been low carb'ing for months now so have moved up to 1200ish calories a day and trying 3 meals and more exercise to mix things up a bit as I had stalled on 800. This seems to be working for me but I'd stick with 'pure' 800 for as long as you can.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/05/2021 11:29

Just wrote a long message checking in and lost it!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/05/2021 13:53

All I've had today is a weigh watchers chicken noodle soup and a coffee or two. Trying to be good as tomorrow my sister is bringing afternoon tea as a belated birthday present! So it wont be low carb but it will be the only thing I eat all day.
And I have my salad making for the test if the week sorted already.

traintraveller · 02/05/2021 14:25

Hi all
I've had a good weekend food wise. Wk 3 starts tomorrow and although I keep forgetting to take measurements my jeans feel much better on. I plan to get back to running tomorrow, I can't do it in the first week or two of BSD as it makes me feel awful.

PhoenixMama · 02/05/2021 16:04

Hey everyone! Back after my crazy work week and loooooong days. Needless to say I definitely need to learn how to make those days work for me on this way of eating. Problem is if we're in a venue somewhere that's not near anything then I can't pick stuff up on the go but the long days mean I have very little time for meal prep. I have 2 more weeks like this coming up in June - 1 in London and 1 in Cornwall and I want to make sure I'm in a better place than I was this week.

Haven't managed to get myself to stand on the scale yet but I reckon I'm back to where I was in January again so have another stone to lose to get back to my lowest. I'm going to do a low-ish carb day tomorrow to get rid of stuff in the house and then back on it properly for almost 3 weeks until May 21st, then I'll re-evaluate. I think making it 3 weeks will make it easier to just focus again and I think what I'll do on running days is just add a Grenade Carb Killer protein bar so I'll be coming in closer to 1000 cals on running days but I can't run on 800 cals and I don't want to give it up.

Hi to all the newbies! I lost 50lbs doing Fast800 for 20 weeks in 2019 and kept it off mostly until the last lockdown - now probably have about a stone to go (I'll weigh and measure on Tuesday). Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Puffincrossing · 02/05/2021 19:17

phoenix are you staying in a hotel or somewhere with a kitchen? I've been away this weekend with my DC. I wanted to stick to plan so cooked a batch of ratatouille and added some beans. I've eaten it every night as I can heat it in a couple of minutes in the microwave, then cook broccoli in microwave for a couple of minutes while frying some halloumi. Dinner on the table in 5 minutes and the initial cooking didn't take long either. I've eaten it for 3 nights now, if I was staying longer I'd probably do the same with a different meal. I normally like variety but it's been fine for this brief period. For lunch I've had roasted Quorn chunks and salad and snacked on a couple of babybels and some berries. I appreciate this isn't the most healthy or exciting plan but it has been very convenient and that's what I needed above all else this weekend.

BlueSkyBlinking · 02/05/2021 19:48

Hello all!
I am not starting officially until Monday but I’ve been trying out some mediterranean lo-carb, high protein meals this weekend and I’ve found it very difficult to get under 1100 calories. I dread to think how many calories I’ve been eating up until now.
I’m going to find it easier to focus if I do three week blocks. I’m hoping that will also stop me stalling. Do you think that would’ve helped you with your plateaus, PhoenixMama?

I also have found a wedding dress that won’t look ridiculous on my 47 year old body this summer, and I’m planning my micro wedding, so I have lots of motivation today!

Hope you’re all relaxed and rested after the weekend.

PhoenixMama · 02/05/2021 20:19

Hi Puffin - I'm not staying in a hotel and probably realistically need to prep better I think. I'm not someone who can eat the same thing day in and day out - that would equally push me into the arms of biscuits! It doesn't help the amount of biscuits, crisps, etc that are in the room either and the long days mean I was relying on Hello Fresh & prepped meals at the end of the day. The babysitter I hired was also a bit crap which made things harder too - I realised what I really need is a wife!

PhoenixMama · 02/05/2021 20:47

@BlueSkyBlinking Honestly I think plateaus are part and parcel of the process, you'll be fine for the first few weeks but for me after 4 weeks I had 1 week of plateau (or very very small loss) at least once every 3 - 5 weeks. But I always stuck with it and lost it in the end. Looking back over my notes today I lost most of the weight in the first 12 weeks, then 5lbs in the weeks 12 - 16 and then stalled for the last month losing just 2lbs. But I maintained it for long over a year before I crumbled to lockdown 847!

Tinselandlights · 02/05/2021 21:20

Hi all, I had a bit of a slip today at a birthday gathering (6 of us), I hadn't thought things through very well and ended up going off-plan as there was a bbq and I had bread, crisps and dip as well as a piece of birthday cake.

That said, I'm not in the slightest bit hungry now so am just going to skip dinner tonight which should even things out a little bit.

I feel as though I wouldn't necessarily want to give up homemade birthday cake on special people's birthdays so it's the consequences of that. I have no problem turning down shop-bought cake but homemade is a bit more special!

LotsOfTrees · 03/05/2021 06:45

50lbs is an incredible loss @PhoenixMama - I’m sure you’ll be able to lose the final stone. Really helpful to get your advice on plateaus for when they come.

Welcome @BlueSkyBlinking - such an exciting goal!

I’ve just completed week 3 and have lost another 4lbs so am very happy with that. It takes my total loss to just over 19lbs in three weeks. I can see and feel the difference which is amazing. In a couple of weeks I should be no longer obese!

BlueSkyBlinking · 03/05/2021 10:01

I agree that a homemade birthday cake should have a big exemption sticker on it Tinsel!

That’s an amazing loss LotsOfTrees! Congratulations and well done!

Kimlek · 03/05/2021 14:55

Well done everyone. Some really positive news here. Not me. I’ve been rubbish. I need to plan and I’m not really or I’m snacking on rubbish. I can fast quite easily to lunch but then it’s just piggy piggy piggy. Once I start I can’t stop. It’s bizarre as when I did this previously I found it quite easy.

texican · 04/05/2021 07:31

Morning everyone, happy Tuesday!

I keep skulking back here after naughty weekends and I need to learn my lesson. I'm not going to drink at all next weekend and have a good fortnight run at being back on it as the weekend alcohol is undoing all my good work in the week and it's annoying me.

Meal planned for the week and will try and be strict with the snacking. Hopefully the hormonal eating of last week has passed and I can crack on.

Welcome @BlueSkyBlinking and welcome back @PhoenixMama ☺️ sounds like life has been very busy. You and me can be 'on it' for the next few weeks! @BlueSkyBlinking maybe post some of your meal options for the next few days and people here can help to get them under 800. Have a great day everyone!

texican · 04/05/2021 07:32

Sorry weird app bold fail!

ponderinginpoughkeepsie · 04/05/2021 07:40

Back on it this morning and strangely don't feel hungry. Had a very protein heavy tea last night and so maybe that made a difference.
Just about to do my usual Joe Wicks which I don't loathe as much as I used to although the poor man does often get sworn at if he suggests some awful burpee jumping squat combination as the second to last exercise.
Last ate at 7pm so gunna try to last until 4pm. Hoping the biscuit last night at 10pm doesn't count.

PhoenixMama · 04/05/2021 07:57

Ok weighed in this morning and I have 13lbs to lose to get back to my lowest (which right now is going to be my only goal). I also took measurements and they were up slightly but still up.

@texican Yes let's both be good for 2 weeks and see where we land and that will make us feel better!

@Kimlek I hear you on how much harder it is this time round. I wonder if that's because life is so different to how it was?

@tinselandlights I think the birthday cake thing is really important - who wants to live a life where they can't celebrate people's birthdays or weddings or life wins? In the long run that's why people give up.

Kimlek · 04/05/2021 08:19

Morning all. I also weighed this morning phoenix and I’ve also got 13lbs to lose to get to where I was all through summer and Christmas. My weight went up shortly after Xmas which coincides with going alcohol free shortly before and my DD having mental health issues. I’m staying alcohol free as it’s been 5 months now but I’m drinking sugary substitutes and snacking. I was allowing myself this to cope with being AF and supporting DD. Given AF is well entrenched I now need to focus on my eating. I’ve never been great at exercising other than dog walks and the odd game of tennis. Once I’ve got my eating back on plan I’ll look at exercise. I haven’t the headspace for much else at the moment. I need some mood boosting foods (that’s not chocolate) as feeling very melancholy. I’ll need to google.

WhatWillSantaBring · 04/05/2021 10:41

Hello!

I was on this thread about six months ago, but then fell off, so I would very much like to join again please!

I lost nearly 3 stone using a VLCD (Lighter Life/Exante), but then moved onto a Mediterranean diet with fasting to maintain (with the weekends being more relaxed) - my BMI was still a tad high (26) but wanted to make sure my body reset at the new weight. I then did a 4 week blood sugar diet before Christmas (and, ahem, another one after Christmas to undo all the damage I did over Christmas), which shifted another few pounds. I'm now a healthy weight but would really like to get back to my wedding weight - so want to lose another 10lbs.

I do a 16:8 IF combined with the BSD but do need to make sure I stay motivated to stay off the sugar and alcohol at the weekends which is my #1 downfall.

traintraveller · 04/05/2021 13:06

I had a Bakewell tart for lunch yesterday so not exactly a flying start to week 3. Never mind, back on it today. Halloumi salad for lunch and roast cauliflower and dahl for dinner. Perhaps I'll try on my wedding dress that I've not even taken out the bag since I collected it last July. I've a funny feeling that'll give me the boot up the arse I need!

LotsOfTrees · 04/05/2021 19:54

Welcome back @WhatWillSantaBring
Hope you got on ok with the wedding dress @traintraveller :)

I had some left over meatballs in tomato sauce with salad for lunch and chicken tikka masala with green veg for dinner. Both are from the Fast 800 recipe books and were delicious.

PhoenixMama · 04/05/2021 21:32

Awful first day back - mindlessly ate a biscuit, ate some extra large cheetos mindlessly too. I'm so stressed right now I'm just pulled in a 1000 directions - been at my desk since 7am, still here now and only broke to make dinner, done less than 2000 steps today!

Think I'm coming in at around 1000 which is better but not where I need to be to lose properly!

BlueSkyBlinking · 05/05/2021 00:19

Well, I managed under 850 for two days in a row and I’ve lost a whole pound already!
Juuuuuust shave off that last 50 cals and I’ll be legit. I feel weirdly okay. When does the misery kick in?
