Well done @Tinselandlights!

How are you feeling today @PhoenixMama and @Puffincrossing ?

I am tired and fed up still, but onwards!

I am nearly at the heaviest weight I was last year again 🙄 Maybe then I will feel better.

Hi all!

Well I stepped on the scale this morning and it wasn't QUITE as bad as I thought. I'm 8lbs away from my lowest, which might be doable in 2 weeks if I'm really strict. I ended up eating 3 biscuits yesterday but although I was over on carbs (almost double - oops!) I was only 150cals over.

Still mentally tired and worn down but trying to make sure I get out for a walk each morning. Only did around 5k steps this morning because of meetings but I guess that's better than nothing!

@PhoenixMama that sounds really encouraging, I'm glad! I've found I'm quite low-energy at the moment (I guess it's the Calorie deficit) so I'm not getting my 10K steps most days right now.

Hi all. Joining for a bit of support! I did the Blood Sugar diet about 4 years ago, lost about 3 stone, but most of it has drifted back, especially over the last year - I didn't cope very well with lockdown. So, back having another go - to at least the point where I can get some of my summer jeans & skirts done up - last week when I tried was a bit upsetting and has inspired me. Following recipes from both the Blood Sugar book and the Fast 800 one, and therefore spent the weekend batch cooking soup and suppers to make it easier. I'm also trying to manage the 12 hours without eating overnight thing - which is a bit of a challenge if you're an early riser who tends to have dinner late. My big worry is how to cope with socialising. Luckily the next two dates in my diary I'll have to drive to, so that'll mean I can swerve any alcohol, and hopefully there'll be something on the menu which isn't too dreadful.

Hi again @MaudesMum

I am by default the designated driver for the foreseeable, so it's just one thing not to have to think about 😁

What's your favourite recipe you are having this week?

Report
Sunbelievable · 18/05/2021 17:38

@PhoenixMama and @Tinselandlights are you taking supplements? I started a super vitamin D about 6 months ago and added in vitamin B last week. I don't know how much they help though as I am feeling rather tired still too 😆

tinsel Well done that's fantastic.
I've basically eaten salad and cheese for lunch and dinner today, finishing on 700 calories and 30g carbs. Day 6 of emi wongs ab challenge and its definitely getting easier.

Welcome @MaudesMum! I do lots of work socialising and am often faced with long dinners... it is my downfall! Tonight DH and I took our DD to the village pub for dinner and I checked the menu beforehand AND STUCK TO MY PLANS . So I had chicken and bacon salad and fizzy water. It was actually really nice.

@Sunbelievable when I remember I take b12, vitamin d, magnesium and a multivitamin. Probably about 4x a week. I think I just don't get enough sleep really because I look at Mumsnet in bed like now

Well done tinsel that's a brilliant result!

I'm feeling a lot better both mentally and physically. I read the article in the daily mail by Chris Van Tullken about eating highly processed, and often high carb, foods. It resonated with me as I felt Blergh on Monday after a week of sugar. I definitely feel much better today. I've lost 1.4lb in 2 days as well.

I have a social occasion on Friday where I will have no control over the food so will probably undo any progress I make this week but at least I won't be going up over all.

Quiche and salad for lunch today. Quorn biriyani for dinner. Have also treated myself to some raspberries, so tasty but so expensive for how many you get.

Report
Sunbelievable · 19/05/2021 11:19

@Puffincrossing omg yes. I'd promised my youngest raspberries this morning and almost put them back but bought them in the end because they love them so much. I am a sucker as it's a tiny punnet.

Where have you found a good low carb quiche? Or have you made it?

I am having salad with a bit of feta and falafels for lunch. Not sure about dinner yet.

I did get up and go to a gym for 6:30am. I felt crap all the way through it and was all squashed in my gym clothes. But it's a start!

An omelette with whatever protein is in the fridge?

Thank you @Puffincrossing! I am finding it ok this week.

One thing I bought yesterday was a jar of cocoa - that is sugar free so I had a cup with milk this afternoon, it was really nice actually! Definitely a good alternative to milk.

I've indulged and booked a PT at the gym for three months - I've never had one before so it feels like a big step!

Report
Tinselandlights · 20/05/2021 07:46

*alternative to milk chocolate is what I meant!

So the cocoa is just 100% cocoa powder, no sugar, and was a brilliant chocolate-y hit.

Oh FFS. I have put weight back on, everything aches from the gym yesterday, I am truly fed up and I want to quit and drink a bottle of wine and have pizza.

I am on day 14, I have been very strict. I have gone from eating and drinking utter crap to have two small incredibly healthy meals a day, plus gently upped exercise. Cut out all alcohol, been really careful with hidden carbs. Drunk lots of water. And I have lost a grand total of 3lb. No whoosh. And I am definitely in a calorie deficit 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just cannot understand why this is not working for me this time 😔 My body is just rebelling.

Hello there, after reading the threads without being a member I've signed up to try to keep me on track!
I'd love to hear about anyone who's done the 800 calorie weeks, transitioned to 5:2 and kept the weight off. My only experience of fast weight loss has been if I've been too poorly to eat, and it's gone straight back on once I started eating again. Thanks

Report
Tinselandlights · 20/05/2021 11:02

Welcome @Marina7! I'm still in the first 12 weeks but am DETERMINED this is going to work! It feels very different to me because the food is so delicious in the books!

@Sunbelievable could you share what you are eating on here, if you feel comfortable, to get a bit of feedback?

Don't forget too that if you are working out, your body will be retaining water to heal all those micro-tears in your muscles, and you will be shaping up despite the scales not going down fast enough. Weight loss is non-linear but it is so frustrating when it's not fast enough!

Report
PhoenixMama · 20/05/2021 11:22

Hi everyone!

@Sunbelievable I'm going to give you my shpiel for people for starting out - are you using MFP or similar to track every single thing you eat? Are you keeping your carbs below 35% of your total intake? You say you're drinking loads of water but are you actually getting 3-4L/day? Are you adding salt to your meals? Your body needs the salt to let go of the water. If you're going to the gym, what are you doing? Weights will increase muscle which will gain faster than you lose fat. It is hard to do this and get significant exercise in at the same time. I didn't do any exercise until after I'd done 8 weeks because it was too hard on my body. And as @Tinselandlights said - feel free to share what you're eating and your macros if you have them. It's often things we don't notice ourselves!

I'm down another lb this morning and now 6 away from my goal. I've decided to focus on how many lbs left rather than how many I've lost because I want to get back to where I was and then set a new goal.

Last night I was very good - had a couple of homemade chicken nuggets and then a couple veggie sausages to get my protein up did the trick. Bit worried about Saturday as we're out all day at various work/social events but I'm going to pack a protein bar so I have a back up in case I get hungry and we will be in central London for part of it so should have some decent healthy options!

sun I haven't found a suitable quiche, sorry. I make mine. I do either crust less one from BSD, which only takes a couple of minutes to do or if I'm feeling extravagant then I use Diet Doctors avocado pie pastry recipe to make a 'proper'one. It tastes very good but fairly high in calories so just a small piece.

I've lost another 1.4lb so back where I was before last weeks carb fest happened.

Marina I think the key is accepting that your diet has changed forever. If you were slowly getting heavier and heavier then reverting to that lifestyle is going to produce the same results. I'm consuming about 1200 calories a day and the weight is still coming off. I had an extra 250 yesterday as I walked 13 miles according to Fitbit and really felt it but the weight is slowly moving.

Sunbelievable · 20/05/2021 13:24

Thank you @PhoenixMama and @Tinselandlights

I'll put the last two days and today below.

I don't eat breakfast so I naturally have a 16-18 hour fast anyway. I drink 2 litres of sparkling water minimum a day, often more, plus at least 6 herbal teas, so definitely over 3 litres, and more usually 4. I limit myself to 1 black coffee a day, and I do add salt to meals.

I was very careful to slowly up my exercise over the last two weeks, so yesterday on day 13 was the first time I went to the gym. I didn't do heavy weights, it was HIIT work for 45 minutes. Previous to that, I had just upped my steps on dog walks.

Tuesday
Lunch - Salmon and cream cheese omelette (2 eggs). 390 calories, 7.2g carbs.
Dinner - Steamed broccoli with butter. Less than 150 calories, trace carbs.

Wednesday

Lunch - Greek Salad with feta and leftover cooked salmon. 360 calories, 3.5 carbs.

Dinner - Chicken korma with green beans and cauliflower rice. 376 calories, 28g carbs

Thursday

Lunch - smoked kipper, two curried scrambled eggs. 384 calories, 1.5 carbs.

Dinner - poached Halibut with bacon and mushroom sauce. 447 calories, 2 carbs.

So it differs each day as the the total amount but overall I think I am fine. I am eating a lot of fresh fish and some chicken. I am only having red meat once a week or so.

Unless I am missing something, my carbs are usually very low? I usually take the calories and carbs from whatever recipe I am using although I did weigh the smoked kipper earlier and double check.

I think though that even if I weighed absolutely everything, it wouldn't account for much difference and I can do without the strain of being that obsessive (I don't want tween daughter copying!).

Urghh. I am resisting wine and choosing some more nice fish to have delivered instead.

@Sunbelievable are you perimenopausal by any chance? Any thyroid issues?

What is your current BMI?

Report
PhoenixMama · 20/05/2021 15:38

@Sunbelievable You might not be having enough carbs from that. If you don't have any you body goes into starvation mode and holds onto everything in a panic. Sounds like that might be what's happening here!

The good thing about something like MFP is it shows you what percentage of your food is carbs but you still most definitely need some or your body cant function. I think he says in the book not to go below 30gs? Maybe someone who's read the book more recently can confirm the exact amount.

I presume I would have some symptoms if I was perimenopausal and I haven't done, so going to guess no for that one, but I guess this could be the first symptom. No thyroid problems though and I lost weight doing fast 800 right before lockdown one so it worked before.

Thank you so much though, I think I need to keep an eye on getting more carbs. I have become wedded to my standard of white or oily fish plus steamed broccoli (as it's absolutely delicious!!!).

Maybe I should just have a glass of red wine after all?

Just dropping in to ask for tips managing a hangover on this diet Blush I had a planned exception yesterday with no regrets but I normally get through hangovers by mainlining carbs but don't want to do that today! What're your go-to meals for sticking to plan on poorly head days?
