@MrsTaytodarling welcome & well done on your 12lb loss so far! Synopsis is - low carbs, high protein, no diet foods, no pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, or sugar. Some people also intermittent fast (mentioned in book) and have an eating window of 8hrs. So no bfast - eat lunch and dinner & any snack between midday & 8pm. As an example.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/04/2021 07:21

Yesterday was a but of a poor duet day here. I'd booked to sit outside at the local pub for tea, planning to have their carvery and stick to meat and veg.
Well, they weren't doing it due to people only eating outside, and a absolutely everything in their limited menu came with chips.
So I ate all the carbs! I made sure to leave about 1,/4 of it as I was full by that point and ate nothing else all evening but I'm sure it will have had a negative impact.
Oh well. Today is planned and low carb so back on it.

texican · 28/04/2021 07:28

Morning morning,

Haha @Kimlek hollow legs syndrome is real! I definitely went over my 800 yesterday and probably more like 1100 but in the end I thought it was better to make sure I didn't get so hungry that I cracked and ate half a loaf of peanut butter toast or ordered a Chinese. So I had a largish portion of veggie chilli for lunch, and garlic mushroom chicken thighs for dinner, but also some leftover turkey meatballs and a heck chicken sausage. I'm feeling slightly better this morning, but still like I could eat a horse. Hormones do not help us!

Welcome @MrsTaytodarling. I think @Kimlek summarised the diet nicely - it's fairly straightforward really but reading the book helps to build a fuller picture for any grey areas. Key advice - meal plan in advance and stick to it (do as I say not as I do obvs).

@PhoenixMama Was it you who made the beef mince taco bake thing? Think I might have that for dinner but could do with a reliable recipe if you made it?

Have a great day everyone. I could sleep for another 5 hours but up I get for another zoomy day!

Tinselandlights · 28/04/2021 08:34

@texican hormones definitely don't help!

First day of my period expected and it was my wedding anniversary yesterday... I'm going to draw a veil over what I ate yesterday though I did add it all into My Fitness Pal!

Back on it today.

MrsTaytodarling · 28/04/2021 14:49

Thanks everyone. Hope to have the book later today

Tinselandlights · 28/04/2021 19:50

I hope your book arrived @MrsTaytodarling!

I had a team pub lunch today. I think I made an ok choice - chicken breast in mushroom sauce with vegetables. It came with new potatoes too but I didn't eat any.

I did the best I could, really! The other options were things like tuna melt, fish and chips or burgers. None of it was exactly bursting with health.

I did have a craving for the cookies I'd bought my team but I firmly handed them to my DH and told him to take them!

GuessWho57 · 28/04/2021 19:56

Hi all, popping in to this thread as I have some questions...

I saw a friend fir the first time in months as she looked amazing having dropped loads of weight doing that Fast800.

So now I’m obviously interested in jumping on the bandwagon!

Reviews on Amazon of the book suggest it plugs the website a fair bit. Do I need the book? Are you all doing 12-week plan online?

And finally.... I can’t help but think “well of course you’ll lose weight only eating 800 cals per day - and of course you’ll pile it on again when you start eating more than that again”...

Tinselandlights · 28/04/2021 20:46

@GuessWho57 hello and welcome!

I'm three weeks into the Fast800 and have lost 10.5lbs (I'm now 10 stone 7).

I've just got the book so far, rather than the recipe book. I've not joined the forum, as I've found everyone so supportive in this group!

You could try it now and if you feel you need the extra steps you can add them in. The one thing I've bought is keto strips from Amazon so I can see if I'm eating low carb enough.

Puffincrossing · 28/04/2021 22:02

Guess I totally agree that if you only eat 800 calories then you will lose weight no matter what you eat. The difference between low carb and traditional low fat is that the food tends to fill you up better so you don't start picking because you're hungry. I was following fast 800 but I'm now having around 1100 calories a day and the weight is still coming off. It's coming off very slowly now but I feel I've finally found a sustainable woe.

You certainly don't need to sign up to website to successfully follow this plan.

0.4lbs off (again!) I really want to get into next stone bracket and stay there.

GuessWho57 · 28/04/2021 22:37

Thank you both! I could do with losing 1.5st.

I am really terrible at sticking to stuff, and a bit time poor too (therefore usually results in a ton of white bread being consumed and multiple railings of the kids snack drawer).

So the 12 week programme sounds like it might help but if it’s just a glorified meal plan it’ll make me cross. I do need some recipe inspiration though....

I I understand re the book... the original was issued in 2018 and includes recipes, then there is a 2019 book that is just recipes, then there is a 2021 book that is just recipes but updated?

Perhaps I’ll get the original by kindle (not ideal for recipes though I find) as I’m impatient and don’t want to wait until Tuesday for the delivery (I’m abroad!)

NotDonna · 28/04/2021 22:41

@GuessWho57 o started with the little paperback & this thread about 18 months ago. I’ve now got a couple of the recipe books. I didn’t even realise there was a website or forum. I’ve rarely stuck to 800 but still lost 2 stones (12 to 10) in first year. I maintained pretty well for quite a few months but the last few I’ve been eating stupid amounts of sugary carbs. So it’s crept back on (7-8lbs). I know if I stick to the ‘woe’ I’ll loose again without having to restrict to 800. It’ll be quicker if I do though. Give it a go & join us here.

GuessWho57 · 28/04/2021 22:46

Ok I’ve got the kindle version of the original book. Will then upgrade to the latest recipe book if it looks promising.

Hopping into bed now to start reading. Pretty sure I’ll be back with questions.

Thank you for the warm welcome Smile

Kimlek · 28/04/2021 22:52

Enjoy your bedtime reading and please return with any questions. I recommend using My Fitness Pal to record your foods & drinks before you eat them! I’ve had some very carby surprises! Another good app is ‘Happy Scale’ as it averages / smooths out weight loss etc. Both are free 🤗

GuessWho57 · 28/04/2021 23:03

Thanks Smile

I have had MFP for years... usually get as far as logging breakfast and that’s it!

texican · 29/04/2021 07:10

Morning,

Yesterday was a Bad Day. In the end I gave into the toast but stopped at 2 slices. Could actually have stopped at 1 - 1 fulfilled the craving, 2 was me being greedy and made me feel uncomfortably full afterwards. I also had a smorgasbord of other items, have just been completely on one. In the end I gave myself permission to have a day of just going with it and today is a new day. Have to plan carefully today to make sure it is actually a new day and not just a repeat!

So - scrambled eggs for lunch with salad. Dinner - gammon and butterbeans and peas. No other snacking except perhaps a couple of squares of dark chocolate. That's that.

Welcome @GuessWho57. The book is a very good investment and I dip in and out of it all the time. Recipes can be quite simple to adapt - basically everything I would have had pasta/spaghetti with I now have a big salad. Anything I would have had chips with I now have either salad, veg or, as a weekend treat, a few sweet potato wedges. Anything I would have had rice with I either have in or on iceberg lettuce, or if it's Asian food I tend to fry some beansprouts separately with some mushrooms and use them like noodles. That way I am basically eating pretty similar meals to before, although have branched out quite a lot just to keep things interesting, and it saves the brain power! In fairness, I've not been hungry from my meals and I am someone that would have always said I need a carb with my meal. At least one 🙈

@Kimlek how's your hollow legs syndrome?! Hope you fared better than me yesterday. I had the beef mince taco bake thing for dinner though and it was delicious in iceberg lettuce wraps. I used this recipe- www.thekitchn.com/recipe-ground-beef-taco-casserole-249773 Bloody lovely.

Have a great day all ☀️

Kimlek · 29/04/2021 08:16

What an interesting recipe @texican - I’ve never cooked mince in the oven before! I’m going to give this a go today. I was going to do a bolognese but this sounds more interesting. I often do ‘wraps’ or ‘taco’ but just chilli-up a bolognese really.
I had quite a lot of spoonfuls of Halo ice cream last night. And 6 squares of chocolate. But even good dark chocolate but blooming dairy milk as that’s what I found at the back of the fridge. I’m really craving sweet stuff! I’m being a bit half hearted and really need to up my game on the planning & then actually sticking to it. I’m failing at both.
On a positive note I had an hours tennis & a decently paced hours dog walk. I haven’t got a plan for today other than taking the dog for a walk this morning. I’m feeling a bit melancholy. No idea why!

traintraveller · 29/04/2021 19:19

Didn't have a great day yesterday hardly surprising as only had 210 calories on Tuesday. So woke up starving, had 2 slice of toast and ended the day on 1000 calories. Back on it today 801 calories and 46g carbs.

Kimlek · 29/04/2021 21:24

200 calories traintraveller? No wonder you were starving. You could definitely have gone over 1000 then!
texican I didn’t read the full recipe until I started the tacos. You don’t cook the mince in the oven. You must have thought I’d was losing the plot. Was very tasty so thank you for that!

Puffincrossing · 30/04/2021 06:34

kimlek I hope you're feeling better today. I made some keto shortbread and added some chocolate chips the other day as hormones demanded I ate something sweet and these hit the spot while staying low carb. Normally I avoid sweeteners but occasionally they serve a purpose. I use erythritol as it seems to be a 'better' one.

I've lost another 0.8lbs so I've lost a total of 28.6lbs but I've been here many times over the last couple of month. Generally having low carb toast and peanut butter for breakfast, soup, cheese and another slice of bread for lunch and then a variety for dinner. This works during the week but all goes wrong at the weekend so I really need to stick closer to the plan over the next couple of days.

I tried some eat water pasta last night. I've had the noodles and they've been fine in a chinese but I don't think they work in spag bol. I'll go back to cabbage next time.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Tinselandlights · 30/04/2021 08:06

I'm finally back into ketosis after having a brioche roll and some M&Ms during my anniversary lunch on Tuesday! THREE DAYS!

Yesterday I was as good as gold so I hoped I'd be back in ketosis this morning, and sure enough the stick came up pink.

I had:
B - tofu with raspberries
L - leftover steak with broccoli and homemade peanut sauce
D - prawn stir fry

@Puffincrossing I'm new to all this, are things like low carb toast and keto shortbread allowed in the book/on the plan?

texican · 30/04/2021 08:29

I've just caught up with the thread and oh my goodness @Kimlek when I read your first message I was like "nooo you'll poison yourself" and then was really relieved to see your follow up message 😂 yummy isn't it! We'll definitely be having it again but maybe as a weekend meal as felt slightly more indulgent although probably ok.

I was on my best behaviour yesterday and managed to reign myself back in. I woke hungry again which is really unusual for me and found myself debating what I could have but then just went back to the rules I started with - no food before 12 - and weirdly the sensation to eat kind of went away. I do well with very black and white rules I think.

Well done on your loss @Puffincrossing how much do you have left to go until you decide to maintain? I saw some other 'pasta' advertised in the GoodFood mag the other day made from pea protein called ZENB. From the pics it looks like real penne and the reviews seem good. I've not tried it yet as still trying to beat the pasta habit.

@Tinselandlights I loved the keto sticks for a bit of accountability. Should dig them out again we need them this week!

Have a great day everyone ☀️

texican · 30/04/2021 08:33

Scrap that ZENB recommendation - it is soooo expensive!!!!

LotsOfTrees · 30/04/2021 10:47

Good to hear how everyone is doing. My weight loss has massively slowed now I’m on week three. I’ve lost 16lbs total which is incredible but just 1lb so far this week. I wonder if my body just needs to catch up with itself. I do look noticeably a bit thinner already and my clothes are sitting better.

BlueSkyBlinking · 30/04/2021 19:45

Can I join please? I’m currently RTFT and feeling half excited half horrified at what I’m letting myself in for. You’re all doing so amazingly well, and I’m hoping I can keep up with you.

I joined the Fast800 12 week programme online on Weds, spent a couple of hours logging in and choosing favourite recipes from 25 or so pages, only for the site to be upgraded yesterday and all my information lost. Is this some kind of initiation challenge, meant to determine how many carbs and glasses of wine I’m going to inhale in response?

Luckily I don’t start till Monday. I’m “preparing myself” by trying one of the recipes a day and I’m already horribly hungry?? What’s all your tips for not immediately falling face first into crisps?

Tinselandlights · 30/04/2021 20:50

Welcome Bluesky!

I'm on week 3 and have so far lost 10lbs. The first three days were hard - headaches, tiredness and grumpy! Then I started to feel much much better.

My tips are to drinks loads of water and to go to bed early! It does pass and you'll find you feel more energetic. Seeing the weight come off is massively encouraging, too.
