@Puffincrossing, thank you for all of the information, that is exactly what I need!
I have my books and I am reading everything.

After I finish I am going to get my plans sorted, shop, and start on Monday. It is definitely time to change. Feeling very low at the moment.

shreddergodo · 09/04/2021 08:28

@Forfecksake17 Just read your post about the plan and how you needed something else to motivate you. First of all I totally relate, I'm also kind of at the 'tail end' of my weight loss journey with only a stone left. I do see so many negative comments from us all, even @LockdownLard saying 'urgh only a pound down'- GIRL YOU LOST A POUND THATS AWESOME! But the programme is so restrictive and also the promise of losing a billion pounds a week is so present in the literature and in the community that it can be this longterm list of disappointments... as you said @PhoenixMama restricting oneself like that, it's hard when there's no recompense, or very little, to stay motivated long term.

That being said, the diet has taught me that I don't need carbs especially, and that I feel SO much better when I'm fasting and eating low card. Like Isaid I've been following an essentially 'low carb' diet myself and just doing fasting 16:8 but not the 800 kcal bit and not obsessing about protein numbers just trying to eat some in at every meal. What a difference - I'm losing but I'm also not obsessing about food.

Today weighed in at 64.2 kg - so CLOSE to the '63s'. I'm working all weekend so planning a really health and active couple of shifts to get me into the 63s by Monday.

I've also been eating some treats/sweets if I'm out with a friend (for a walk usually) but not been obsessing about them too much. I have been 'mindful' about eating too much at dinner, I think this sets me up for a good loss in the morning if I'm not full of food and that's really motivating.

So that's what I'm doing. I guess I'm doing fast800 without the 800 part haha- I think the logging was getting me down and I found it boring...

I've also been running fasted which is such a great fun experience!

Anyways I wonder if I may move over to a different groups as not doing the FAST800 for sure but they are so chaotic this one is so friendly haha. I should give it a try to move over so people actually doing the BSD can post here.

Puffincrossing · 09/04/2021 13:07

shedder I think you've summed up really well. It's hard not to feel disappointment when you only shift 1lb but that's actually good progress. No diet offers miracles. Even the 800 only promises a stone in 4 weeks. Lots of diets will get you losing 7lb in the 1st week, so really 800 is only a little over 2lb a week for weeks 2-4 and then it slows which is the same for all of them. It has taken me years to get this fat, realistically it's going to take a while to shift it.

I actually find this woe pretty easy to follow and I certainly feel better with less carbs in my diet. I think like you I have moved to a mindful way of eating. I want to keep losing but it will be slow now, that initial rush is gone.

KimKsButt · 11/04/2021 19:52

Hi All. I’ve landed here after seeing fast800 recommended on another thread. I previously lost 2.5 stone by cutting processed carbs and doing 16:8. Found it really easy to stick to and did it quickly, was able to exercise etc. Then I’ve suffered a sudden covid bereavement and just totally lost it. Decided that I just needed to “survive” etc so not really stuck to anything. I’ve definitely put weight back on but haven’t been on the scales yet.

I’m now thinking of doing the fast800 as a kick start with the potential to continue or move on to 5:2 etc. Due to my son now having covid I'm housebound for a few days and so can do so e reading etc but would like to ask a few questions.

I have no info (have watched his programmes and understand the principles) so need to either buy books or do the 12 week online. I’m sure there’s apps etc. So what would you all recommend? What do I need? I don’t need a vegan option but am looking to eat less meat. Don’t want to fully commit to that though as I want to get my husband on board who definitely won’t go vegan!

I will definitely read through these threads too but just wondered what official merch I need? I did like the idea of the shakes for ease but haven’t read the best reviews on them!

LockdownLard · 12/04/2021 07:30

I have managed seven weeks of the BSD800 so far and have lost 1.5 stone. The only things I have bought have been the BSD book, the BSD recipe book, some digital kitchen scales, a spiraliser and a tape measure. On the weeks I don’t seem to have lost much the measurements continue to decrease which is motivating. I intend to carry on to do the 12 weeks as I have a lot to lose.

carriec6 · 12/04/2021 08:19

Day 1 for me today. I am now the biggest that I have been since having my boys. 13st 9lbs this morning, and feeling every pound of it. I need to make a change, and this is it!

PhoenixMama · 12/04/2021 09:39

Hi all! Welcome newbies! @KimKsButt you definitely need to read the book - not just so you know the detail but also so that when it gets hard you understand the reasons why. I know a couple of people who tried the shakes but generally they didn't love them and they get old really quickly and if you're looking at a different lifestyle/way of eating then they're really not long term.

I lost 50lbs before Covid just following the diet and eating real food and managed to keep most of it off until Christmas lol.
Also be prepared for Keto flu in the beginning - I felt rough for about 8 days but it passes - just make sure you're drinking at least 3L of water a day!

I stepped on the scale on Friday and apparently I'd gained 10lbs in a week Hmm I'm not sure what's going on with my body right now but I do feel really bloated. I'm down 3lbs after being more careful on the weekend but I'm frustrated to say the least.

I have added more exercise in which might be part of it so I'm going to watch my measurements more closely but also not quite sure what to do. If I was losing 1lb a week I'd be ok with that but I haven't really lost anything since the end of Feb so I feel like I'm yo-yoing between being really strict and not getting anywhere and then eating what I want over Easter and gaining a lot.

It's my birthday next Monday so normally I'd be really good this week but I've got a few lunches/meet ups in this week where I'll be drinking so we'll see. I also think the date that I was using for motivation is off because he's ghosting me lol. Serious le sigh!

takeabrolly · 12/04/2021 11:12

Can I join you? In the last year I lost 12st of useless weight when my husband and I separated. In that time I've sorted out the house and am well on the way to sorting out the garden. Now it's time to lose some weight. I am retired, well into menopause and weigh 12st 4lbs. I'm only 5' 1 though so I feel huge. I've read the book (will read it again) and I'm ready for this!

LockdownLard · 12/04/2021 18:32

@takeabrolly I was just going “wow 12st” when I read the rest of your post Grin

HarebrightCedarmoon · 12/04/2021 22:36

Have to say I haven't had keto flu at all. I had a bad headache and felt ropey for a few hours on Day 1 but since then I've felt great - my sleep being so much better making such a difference.

PhoenixMama · 13/04/2021 07:19

Welcome @takeabrolly! That's great @HarebrightCedarmoon I'm jealous! Mine was pretty bad lol but I did lose 7lbs that first week so I guess it was worth it hahaha

Haven't weighed yet this morning but going to go for a run first - getting back into C25K has been harder than doing it and I'm being really careful as I don't want to get injured again. Today's an off plan day as I'm meeting a girlfriend for lunch & 2-4-1 cocktails so will be back on it properly tomorrow.

Dinner last night was from the BSD recipe book and it was so good! Courgetti with goats cheese, pesto & peas. Super easy & I just made dd's with proper noodles so it was easy to adapt. Highly recommended!

HarebrightCedarmoon · 13/04/2021 08:59

Great stuff. I lost 5lbs in week one, very pleased.

PhoenixMama · 13/04/2021 09:25

So I'm down 4lbs on Friday as of this morning but as I'm drinking today that will go up 🤦🏼‍♀️ the trick will be keeping getting back on it after an off day - I'm definitely better if I'm consistently on it!

LockdownLard · 14/04/2021 06:51

End of week 7 weigh in today, after two weeks of 1lb loss, have lost 4lbs this week.

Starting Weight: 259lbs
Starting BM (blood sugar) on waking: 12.6mmol/L
Waist: 126cm
BMI: 39.38

Week 7
Weight: 236lb - 4lb loss, total 23lb loss
BM: 6.5mmol/L
Waist: 105cm - total reduced 21cm
BMI: 35.88

Definitely going to push on to do the 12 weeks now - am also doing BIWIs boot camp to try and keep me on track.

Puffincrossing · 14/04/2021 14:09

I am upping my calories to 1200 but also increasing my steps to 15k a day. I'm hoping this works as I'm not really sure what else to do. I find low carb'ing pretty easy and if I return to my old diet I'll just put all the weight back on again but I really haven't anything since 18th December. I've been losing and gaining the same few lbs and don't seem to be getting anywhere. I still have a lot to shift. If I don't lose weight in next couple of weeks I need a new plan but I don't know what to do next.

PhoenixMama · 14/04/2021 15:07

@Puffincrossing I'm in exactly the same place as you. That said - had a relatively 'back to normal' day yesterday and easily hit 15k steps (I can get less than 2k some home days) so I'm hoping that has a knock on effect. I've upped my cals to 1000 to see if I can figure out the sweet spot lol

@LockdownLard Well done - you must be thrilled!

LockdownLard · 14/04/2021 16:58

I was so surprised, so glad I didn’t think f**k-it after the 2wks of 1lb off, it’s a weird pattern of loss, maybe it was a swoosh!

Weekly losses:
Week 1 - 7lbs
Week 2 - 4lbs
Week 3 - 3lbs
Week 4 - 3lbs
Week 5 - 1lb
Week 6 - 1lb
Week 7 - 4lbs

LotsOfTrees · 14/04/2021 18:39

I’d like to join you all. I started on Monday following the general principles I’ve gleaned from the website but have ordered the book too which should arrive tomorrow.

tinselandlights · 14/04/2021 21:23

Hey all, I'd like to join you all too!

I've put on a stone and a half during lockdown Blush and I'm 5 foot 2 so it really shows.

I've got the Fast800 book and bought some ketone strips today too. This is my day two and I feel exhausted and headachy but ok.

Elakiya · 15/04/2021 14:01

Hi Everyone,

I am completely new to this diet. Can you give me some low calorie meal ideas for vegetarians?

Puffincrossing · 15/04/2021 15:43

Hello elakiya I've found myself eating more Quorn than I ever used to which isn't great but it does mean I can cook a lot of 'chicken' dishes. I've bought Rose Elliott's low carb veggie book and made the bread from there which is also high in protein and I'm having it as toast with peanut butter for breakfast.

Generally online though look at The diet doctor and fast 800 for ideas. We have avocado/garlic mushrooms/omelette/ hummus on coconut wrap/ beans on toast for lunch. Dinner is usually curry/Spag bol on cabbage/soup/ egg fried cauliflower rice/stuffed peppers or tofu nuggets. I have 3 DC and finding things they will all eat is difficult but I have that problem eating carbs too!

Tinsel & trees hello! First few days can be a bit challenging but it gets easy quickly, as phoenix always, rightly, says 'keep drinking water'.

Well done lockdown! I've increased my calories and exercise and have gone back to having breakfast and will see what happens. I quite like the 16/8 though so will probably return to it but I'm hoping by mixing things up I'll get a swoosh soon too.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/04/2021 18:22

Another one hoping to join if that's ok?

Dh got a pre-diabetic diagnosis last feb and shed 8 stone following the BSD. It's sort of put me to shame as i just keep losing and gaining the same 12 pounds.
I started on monday at 14st 1. That's 3 stone to lose tonight to a healthy BMI...which I haven't seen in 8 years!

I'm embracing the hunger and being far more disciplined having something new to follow than it would have been if I'd just restarted on ww for example.

I have short term goals to stick to the 800 for. 5 weeks of 800, then one day off for a special meal meal out. Then on it the rest of the week before then going away with the kids on a uk break. I'd like to be as low as possible by then as there's a pool.

After I want to 2:5 it, having 800 through the week and eating healthily and low carb but not counting too strictly for the 2 weekend days. That's the plan anyway!

tinselandlights · 15/04/2021 19:45

Thanks all!

I'm on day three and had the dhal and cauliflower steaks from the book - does anyone know if that is so carby it'll bring me out of ketosis? (Was delicious, either way!)

tinselandlights · 15/04/2021 19:45

I've bought some ketone sticks to measure but guess it'll be too high straight away anyway...

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/04/2021 19:53

Day 4 here. I only drink sugar free squash in the morning and have a first cuppa with milk at 11. Lunch (in school) is always salad with an apple instead of my usual grapes. No snacking. Dinner I put off as late as possible. Tonight I had a huge bowl.of salad with 2 aldi chicken and chorizo skewers (v nice) and some cottage cheese for extra protein. I have a melon o bought just before reading the book, so will have a little bit of that to keep.within my 800 cals and under 50g carbs.

I've lost 3lb in 4 days which is encouraging.
