@CycleGirl20 I wonder if its all your exercise that's playing with your loss. MM talks about moderate exercise and I think you're definitely doing a lot more than that. It's going to be hard for you to know where the line is between limiting your calories so you lose weight and adding new ones in to cover your exercise? Are you keeping your macros to the same percentage when you're adding in additional cals?

Not saying you should stop exercising but lots of people find that it plays around with their results when they add in significant exercise...

CycleGirl20 · 22/03/2021 15:31

@PhoenixMama I did wonder about the excerise. I'm really keen not to stop though. Especially as if I stop it'll mean I can't as easily do the long cycles (and dare I say cycle holidays?!) I enjoy if I'm out of practice!

Maybe I should keep an eye on it and if things are still plateaud in the next few weeks I should go up a few 100cals.

I do keep my macros the same. 40% protein, 35% fat, 25% carbs. I'm not keen to eat more protein proportionally as I've done that in the past and basically ended up eating high protein yogurt and protein powered twice a day! It was super boring and I got so sick of the taste of it 😵‍💫

Puffincrossing · 22/03/2021 16:15

After a couple of weeks of things happening that meant it's been hard to stick to plan I'm back up to mid February weight. I've done a food shop for the week though, lots of healthy low carb meals planned so hopefully I'll see a change by the end of the week. I'm going to try an check in daily again too, I think it really helps me.

Sounds like a lot of us have been finding things tough. Wishing everyone a loss this week Smile

LockdownLard · 22/03/2021 22:06

@texican
I was impressed how quickly the blood glucose readings came down - after a week there was a huge decrease although obviously that needs to be maintained over months to reduce the hba1c. Struggling a bit this week - coming to the end of week 4, I think it’s the boredom of not having any treats although have ordered some oppo caramel ice cream for a treat next weekend 😃

PhoenixMama · 23/03/2021 08:06

@CycleGirl20 When I was running regularly (and naturally getting 10k steps a day just by real life & not lockdown) I went up to 1000 Cal's on running days because otherwise I was starving, and I plateaued so adding a bit more in can def help.

Down 2lbs this morning, which I know is water weight but good to see down, although I won't get excited till I get back to 179 because that's my yo-yo number. I got to 177 last time but I really want to get to 168 but I'm not sure how dedicated I can be to it to be honest. Did a Joe Wicks 15 min hit this morning & yoga so I think I'm going to focus on timing more when I get back to 177...

fizzfridays · 23/03/2021 09:14

Morning everyone, hope you are also enjoying a bit of the lovely spring sunshine there is here.

@shreddergodo I don't have any children, it's enough of a struggle to look after myself and the dog! Hats off to those who have them, I don't know how you've all coped over the pandemic, parent friends tell me it's been a testing time to say the least!

@texican that recipe sounds lovely. I'm also an apple, even when I've been at my thinnest (BMI 16) I've still had no waist to speak of and my middle is the first place I put it on.

@CycleGirl20 that is frustrating. Are you noticing any changes in shape or clothes fit at all? How much protein do you get per day?

I've had a good few days at 1000 cals. I've started making a sort of 'bread' substitute using egg whites, psyllium husk, cream cheese and a bit of baking powder. Microwave it until it's fluffy then roast it- it's fab with an egg on top, a bit like crap white bread without the crust. Going to have a sort of tuna melt using it at lunch.

CycleGirl20 · 23/03/2021 09:21

@PhoenixMama did you loose faster when running and having 1000? @fizzfridays my clothes are definitely looser. I have lost 8 or 9 kg in 3 months. I just seem to lose nothing for weeks, then 3kg in 10 days. This morning I'd lost 300g since yesterday so that's good.

I would love to lose 3 more kg by Easter so I can have a chocolate egg and some wine and not be back in the 90kgs (I'm quite tall). Currently on 90.8kg

PhoenixMama · 23/03/2021 09:31

@CycleGirl20 I definitely didn't lose faster but I still lost overall (no more than 1lb a week) but it was better than not losing at all.

I made these low carb stuffed pepper last night and they were SO good! DD ate it all as well! www.myketokitchen.com/keto-recipes/keto-stuffed-peppers/ I think 8g of carbs!

Puffincrossing · 23/03/2021 21:35

We're vegetarian. I love these stuffed peppers www.eatingwell.com/recipe/275074/spanakopita-stuffed-peppers/

I've bought yet another recipe book so for dinner tonight we had lasagna with spinach 'pasta'. DC hated it but DH and I liked it and will have it again. I was really hungry yesterday so have increased my water intake today.

I definitely find a little exercise helps. I try to walk for an hour at about 3.5 mph daily but realistically ends up 3/4 times a week. I haven't run in ages, I'm not sure I'd have the energy!

CycleGirl20 · 24/03/2021 06:36

I'm back to loosing after a few days where I was plateaued. Another 300g this morning, following the same yesterday. And I'm pleased to announce my BMI is now 29.9, down from 33.7 (mini fanfare). My goal now is to get enough below 90kg so that I can have a few treats over Easter without going back up into the BMI30s. How is everyone else feeling today?

@Puffincrossing I'm a pescetatian. Have you got any recommendations for high protein meals or staples? I'm eating a lot of Greek yogurt and Skyr

texican · 24/03/2021 07:33

Morning,

@CycleGirl20 that's great. It's nice to have some scales movement as a reward for all that effort! Do you track your weight in an app? It sounds like your body holds onto it for set times so it could be worth seeing if there are trends to reassure you when you're not losing that it's 'just' the time where you don't lose. Plus you'd have an interesting graph! ☺️

Those peppers look great @PhoenixMama. I love a stuffed pepper at the moment. We had bolognaise in ours on Monday night with a lovely salad. I have to say, from being an absolute carb addict, I haven't missed it too much. I thought I couldn't function without pasta but I really haven't missed it in my meals. I do miss the ease of not having to think much about dinner some nights though as pasta was such an easy go-to meal.

New low today of 9st 8.5, and I feel a bit slimmer too which is nice. Contemplating getting out for a run this morning as have another back to back zoom day and could do with the fresh air. Just have to shift my arse! Have a great day all!

LockdownLard · 24/03/2021 13:22

Oh well, I am halfway through the 8 weeks BSD, onto week 5....! No waist decrease this week, and BM up slightly although hugely down from the starting BM. According to MFP 6.6% of body weight has been lost.

Starting Weight: 259lbs
Starting BM (blood sugar) on waking: 12.6mmol/L
Waist: 126cm
BMI: 39.38

Week 4
Weight: 242lbs - 3lb loss, total 17lb loss
BM: 7.5mmol/L - up from 6.6 last week.
Waist: 111cm - no change this week, total reduced 15cm
BMI: 36.8

Goal now is to make it a 2 stone loss by the end of the 8 weeks, and possibly carry on to do the 12 weeks.

fizzfridays · 26/03/2021 09:28

Happy Friday everyone!

@CycleGirl20 that's fab about your bmi, well done. I would also love an Easter egg but having looked at the nutritional labels on a few I'm not sure it's wise for me to have one near me!

@texican what is your target? I was having the same Zoom/wfh stagnating feeling but we rescued a dog about a month ago which has been great for getting us up and out regularly.

@LockdownLard that's very inspiring, how do you feel in yourself?

It's been a crazy week what with year end and all the irritating admin that brings on top of normal client work. I have stuck to 1200 max per day which now feels fine so I'm going to reduce down to 800 for a couple of weeks and see how I get on. How do you all split up your calories? I've tried intermittent fasting so I can have two bigger meals but I find I end up too hungry and do better spreading them out into smaller meals throughout the day.

CycleGirl20 · 26/03/2021 10:29

Thanks @fizzfridays. I'm really happy. I've not got miles and miles to go either now and feel a lot better in myself. Starting to feel more confident and like myself again. I have 12kg still to the healthy category but I'm very active with most of my fat on my bum and boobs and look thin at a BMI of 25/6/7 so I'd be happy there too.

I was just gonna have a mini break over Easter where I aim for maybe 1,600 per day with the 40/35/25 p/f/c Split, some wine and just eat the Easter egg in a day or two so it's a short term calories bump then back to 800cals.

I split my calories 50/50 between lunch and dinner with a coffee for breakfast. Today I have a wholemeal roll with loads of cottage cheese and cherry tomatoes and spring onions, plus a serving of high protein yogurt. Then for dinner we're having prawn spaghetti. I'll swap my high protein edamame spaghetti in. Then I have enjoyed calories left for 15g of dark chocolate!

LockdownLard · 26/03/2021 12:01

@fizzfridays I feel happy now that weight loss is noticeable and that my clothes are loser, but I also feel very bored! I have ordered some oppo ice cream on my grocery delivery so I am hoping this will liven things up! I have another 54 to lose, so a long way to go. I’ve downloaded happy scale to track loss which is great as you can split your goals into smaller sections, apparently I am 24% towards my target loss.

Afraid I can’t help re meal splitting, I also have my 800 cals over 2 meals. - a brunch at around 12 and dinner around 7, so I incorporate intermittent fasting also. At the start of each day I work out what I am going to eat and enter the calories and carbs into a spreadsheet; I keep carbs under 30 usually and if they go over I can change some food choice. Sounds very anoraky I know, but the only way I can do this and stay in the mindset is to treat it as a project as if I’m at work!

Suffolkelfie · 28/03/2021 10:42

Morning everyone.
End of week 2 of Fast 800 and I have lost 1 pound. I am disappointed at losing so little.
Stats
Weight 16/02 12:1 BMI 29.9
Weight 14/03 11:8 BMI 28.7
Weight 21/03 11:4 BMI 28.0
Weight 28/03 11:3 BMI 27.8
I still need to lose 16 pounds for a healthy BMI.
Measurements have stayed the same as last week.
I am still finding it difficult to drink enough water.
Does anyone have any advice regarding running? Currently doing C25K. Did W5 R1 yesterday. I find that my legs feel absolutely empty, and I feel exhausted at the end of each running segment. At the end of the last run yesterday I almost threw up. I have done C25K before and know that I can do this, however I am now worrying about the 20 minute run in W5 R3. Would eating a banana about 30 minutes before I run help?
I am going to do the end of week 3 weigh in next Saturday morning, as I am taking Saturday off and going to enjoy afternoon tea in the garden with my family.

CycleGirl20 · 28/03/2021 12:29

@Suffolkelfie hello 👋. 1lb is the right direction at least. My weight loss seems to be 500g for 2 weeks, then 3kg in one week, then repeat. I guess it's never linear like they say!

I've asked about excerise before here too. Suggestions were generally to keep my food intake split to 40% protein, 35% fat and 25% carbs and then add more cals proportionately or so if I'm doing a lot of excerise. When I do a shorter 30km bike ride I generally don't increase my calories and just align my first meal to when I get back. If I was really hungry I'd add maybe 100 cals. If I'm doing 60-100km longer ride I would up my calories, maybe to 1600-1800. I think you have to be careful not to let your body start reacting like it's starving or you'll stop losing. The only way to really do that is to experiment with an extra 1-200 cals on a regular excerise day and see where you get to.

PhoenixMama · 28/03/2021 12:30

Morning all! I'm trying to decide whether I can be bothered to keep going right now. I have been trying to lose the same 5lbs for the last 6 weeks and it's clear that this isn't working for me any longer and I'm just getting more and more frustrated. I think if I was a total pedant and was really strict on my carbs maybe I'd lose more but I think dealing with lockdown life I'm just not burning enough day to day cals to see a significant change. I'm really feeling that there aren't enough hours in the day to fit in 2 hours of exercise (1 hourish walk to hit my 10k steps, + yoga, plus weight bearing exercise) plus work and parenting and all the other life admin whilst not leaving my house. It just feels bloody hard and I wish I knew what the answer is.

That said I know I'll go off plan next weekend as my bubble friend is coming to stay over Easter while dd is away so maybe I do need to be really strict Mon - Thurs so it doesn't affect the scales too much? I'm committing to doing a hiit workout every day for the next month so maybe that will tighten things up and the measurements will get better? Who knows but I can't 'not lose' forever without giving up.

@Suffolkelfie I did C25K and I had to up my cals to 1000 on running days or otherwise I'd feel awful and I'd stop losing those days because I didn't have enough fuel. Maybe give that a try?

Suffolkelfie · 28/03/2021 15:45

Thanks for the advice @CycleGirl20 and @PhoenixMama
I usually run in the morning and have my first food at about 12 - 12.30 pm. I think next week I will have some breakfast on running days perhaps porridge and see if that helps. I really want to keep on running as I want to be back running 5K non stop by the time Parkrun restarts.

I have had a terrible headache all day today, not relieved by paracetamol and don't know whether that is due to the diet or something else. Could be due to insufficient water.

CycleGirl20 · 28/03/2021 16:45

@PhoenixMama have you got far to go? Maybe give yourself a break when your friends comes. It might stir up your metabolism. Don't give up though. Even if you decide to stop the diet, go into maintenance mode instead and recognise what you've achieved. So many times have I gotten within X kg of a goal, got stuck 2kg off and then quit putting weight back on.

PhoenixMama · 28/03/2021 18:45

@CycleGirl20 I've got around 5lbs to go back to my lowest which is where I previously plateaued in 2019. In an ideal world I'd like to lose another stone but my body is refusing to budge beyond its previous lowest. I tried for MONTHS to get below it before with no luck. I'm actually good at maintaining - until Christmas (booze/stress/etc) I'd managed to stay within 5lbs of my previous weight for over a year. I think I'm going to really focus on exercise for a month & see what that does for me, it might be that Fast800 isn't what I need to lose the last 10lbs - it was great helping me lose the first 50 but maybe now it's down to the nitty-gritty it's not the right thing...

I'm going to be really good Mon-Thurs & see what I can do and then change the focus in April.

texican · 29/03/2021 07:24

Morning all,

Happy Monday....I've managed to put on FOUR POUNDS this weekend and I'd like to say it was by gorging on pizzas and burger and chips but it wasn't! We ordered a tapas restaurant kit so had a few different tapas on Saturday, but otherwise on plan - apart from the alcohol which I am blaming the ridiculous gain on. Hopefully all water so will fall back off but really!

4 day week this week feels much needed. Have zoom and all round fatigue so looking forward to a break. Trying to plan ahead now so as not to go too off the rails - weekends and holidays are my downfall. I managed to lose 4lbs since half term but also lost about another 4 that I had put on in half term which slowed it all down! @fizzfridays my goal is probably around 9st 4 but I'm wondering if it should be lower partly due to my weekend fluctuations and partly because I still don't 'feel' slim and I'm only 3.7lbs off that goal. My lowest last time - and I felt slim - was 9 st 3 but weirdly I feel I am carrying my weight v differently this time and i am not sure 4lbs will make much of a difference to that. Time will tell though. Like @PhoenixMama I think it's actually exercise that will make the most visible difference in my next stretch (Easter to Summer hol) so that will need to be my focus too. Back to the Shred I fear.

How was your ice cream @LockdownLard? Did it help with the boredom feeling? @Suffolkelfie that's very frustrating, but agree with @PhoenixMama - if you know for sure that your calorie intake is accurate and you're not losing I would trial upping it slightly on those days, breakfast sounds like a plan. I remember that feeling of no energy at all in your muscles and that does get better after a few weeks - I now can run or exercise without increasing cals at all but could barely walk the dog for about the first 4 weeks.

LockdownLard · 29/03/2021 07:38

@texican the ice cream was vvvv nice, aldboibn 100g seemed tiny lol I stuck to it. I also had a Big Mac from maccie D’s without the bun which was weird but also helped with the boredom and according to MFP is only 330 cals/6g carbs (opposed to 550 cals/46g carbs with a bun!), going into my fifth week of BSD now, have cheated about three times, not with food but with wine, some things just have to be done Grin

LockdownLard · 29/03/2021 07:39

*although 100g seemed tiny!

shreddergodo · 29/03/2021 11:12

Goshdarndangnabbit!!!!! What is wrong with me- I can't get back on it? Anyone else lacking motivation completely?!
