I find eating twice a day better than 3 times. Lots of fluids helps too.

Today I've had Crustless quiche & salad for lunch followed by a low carb cookie and can honestly say I feel full, possibly slightly uncomfortably so.

PhoenixMama · 11/03/2021 13:54

Welcome @CycleGirl20 Make sure you're eating majority protein and drinking loads (3L+) of water. I find eggs as my first meal really helps too!

CycleGirl20 · 11/03/2021 15:47

Low carb cookies you say @Puffincrossing? Thanks @PhoenixMama, I love eggs so that's great to hear. Any more food suggestions?

Puffincrossing · 11/03/2021 16:50

There's loads of recipes out there. Basically they are almond flour, an egg, sweetener and chocolate chips with a little baking powder and vanilla extract. I use normal chocolate chips as considerably cheaper than keto ones and once you spread 50g worth over 12 cookies it makes very little difference to the carb content. They are definitely not proper cookies no matter how much bloggers rave that their friends can't tell the differenceHmm. I think it's best to try and avoid sweeteners generally buy DH has well and truly fallen off the wagon. He ate 2 of my hot cross buns (saving them for Mother's Day breakfast & Easter) and bought a packet of chocolate hob nobs. He's eaten most of them now. I haven't touched them but did develop the need for something sweet so made low carb cookies. They were satisfying enough. I find chocolate chips are the way to go. I made a 'normal' pear and chocolate cake which suggests using part ground almonds and part s/r flour. I swapped flour for wholemeal and sugar for sweetener but that was only swap I made, from memory it was about 12g carbs per slice. As a treat it was excellent. The rest has gone in the freezer. I used to eat sweet foods everyday. I can honestly say it's probably less than once a week now, not because I'm depriving myself, I just don't crave them anymore.

CycleGirl20 · 11/03/2021 19:15

That sounds delicious. I'll look it up. Your DH sounds a bit like mine. Mine eats about 3 times what I do at the moment and is in the healthy weight category

Puffincrossing · 12/03/2021 07:21

Have lost 1lb so good but still 0.8lb up on last Friday. I'm ok with it though as I've been 'hungry' a lot thing week. Only I know that I'm not really hungry it's emotional eating. I have a lot on right now and it causing me stress. I can't rigidly stick to 800 calories but I am trying to make better choices, although made the low carb cookies yesterday, and I went for a 4 mile walk. Going for another walk today and have food planned out so no need to pop to shops for anything.

Have a good weekend everyone.

CycleGirl20 · 12/03/2021 08:51

@Puffincrossing I'm 0.3kg up on my lowest recent weight, in spite of water fasting 3 days a week for 3 weeks. It can be super unfair/annoying. Looks like the scales are back on the way down though on my 3rd day of fast800 (instead of water fasting most days during the week).

Whattheladybirdsaidnext · 12/03/2021 09:39

Hi everyone. I did this last year and lost 12kg. With lockdowns continuing and some fairly shitty mental health stuff I have gained it all back with some extra to keep it company, so I’m back. Hope that’s ok. I need to loose... maybe 40kg? Perhaps? A depressing amount. I’m 5’7 and somehow still a size 16 (ahem. I’m kidding myself...) but mostly I need to get under control. I would love to just get back to where I was last summer- maybe 15kg down from where I am now? That would be an amazing start.

I do get confused about what weight I should be. I weigh heavy, I always have, so when I’m a size 10 and look skinny my BMI is still at the very very top of the health range. I work out so have muscle tone and as a result have no idea what my end BMI will be. But if I fit into size 10-12 clothes and don’t have chub rub, I actually don’t give a monkeys what the scales say!!

Mostly, I need a kick up the arse and a BIG dose of accountability. I know if I can get through the first week I will be ok, but I already had 1 false start...either way, I’m going to try my best .

So far today I have had 1 coffee. So 65ml of semi skim milk. Once we have cleared the overload of milk in the fridge, I will change to full fat as I know that helps keep me a bit more satisfied then I can get to about 1pm before lunch. Dinner at 6 ish. My timings will be a bit off for a couple of days until i wean myself of coffee 1st thing... ideally I wait till 10am.

Here goes.

CycleGirl20 · 12/03/2021 10:55

I'm the same with being heavy. Although maybe I just imagine everyone else being loads lighter than they are. I'm 174cm(5ft8/9) and 93.7kg this morning. 1 year ago I was 83kg, which is still overweight, but I looked slim. I'm a pear/hourglass shape so maybe that's why. My waist is 31inches at the moment, but it was 26/7inches when I was 83kg. If I get back to 83kg I'll be super happy! I was 78kg for years and the doctor kept telling me I was over weight, which is true from BMI but then looking at photos I look skinny. I'm never sure if you have wide hips and boobs if you're supposed to accommodate for that by being thinner than someone without to keep a healthy BMI. I do wonder if I'd been happy with 78kg, rather than thinking I was fat, I'd have dieted less, built healthier habits and stayed 78kg and thinner!

Whattheladybirdsaidnext · 12/03/2021 14:53

Hourglass here too, with boobs. Confusing isn’t it?!

PhoenixMama · 12/03/2021 19:08

Hey everyone! Another heavier person here. The tiniest I've ever been was 155lbs and I'm 5'7/8. I was so slim, totally lost my boobs & was a size 12, I literally think my bones are size 10!

Now I'd love to be 168, currently 181 - lost 50lbs doing this in 2019 & kept if off until lockdown 2.0.

Having a really tough week but looking forward to getting back on it on Monday!

CycleGirl20 · 13/03/2021 07:07

How do people deal with large amounts of excerise and 800 calories? Say a 4hour, 60 mile bike ride or a 10 mile walk? Especially if it's done a couple of times? I've got some holiday coming up and was planning to spend it cycling and walking as there's not much else to do 😂. Not sure how if I'd manage 3 days a week for 2 weeks of that kind of excerise on 800cal. Sometimes they say "eat what you burn off" but that could be 1,500cals. Is that too much to eat extra?!?

PhoenixMama · 13/03/2021 07:56

@CycleGirl20 It's really hard adding exercise in. Michael Mosely specifically says not to 'eat what you burn' but I know lots of people struggle to stay within 800 when they add significant exercise in. When I was running on top of 10k steps a day I ended up bumping up to 1000 calls because (a) my brain was all foggy and (b) it totally stalled my weight loss - when I went up to 1000cals on running days I actually started losing again, probably because I was coming out of starvation mode. But I only added back 200 cals when I was losing between 500 - 800, if you added back all of what you burn you def won't lose any.

What's really important is what you eat to add those cals back in, definitely add it back in protein and fat, but not carbs/alcohol/sugar. Most people have to do a bit of trial an error (I tried adding 400cals but then I gained, 100 and I stalled) so you can play around and see how your body responds. Plus if you're only doing it for a week/3 times and it's on holiday, not part of your weekly routine you might just decide to eat what you want and then get back on it when you're back?

shreddergodo · 13/03/2021 11:09

Hi everyone! I really disappeared there for a while! Our poor little dog was diagnosed with IBD and just got really sick. It's a while yet until she recovers so we are on a tight toilet/medication schedule to get her through. Feeling so sorry for her poor little self and her poor red skin from having to clean her bum! It's not like human patients, you can't explain to her... feeling so sorry!!!

I've been off the rail but not gained much- in fact I'm oscillating between 10stone 2 and 10 stone 4 most mornings. I have been breaking fast and eating sugar... But I still really want to get back on the no sugar bandwagon.

Would still be able to get into the 9stone bracket this month but I keep saying that and failing and it's making me feel a shit sh** tbh. Anyone else just keep falling off the wagon?!

I guess I also don't care as much now that I've lost a wee bit and feel ok about myself but also I'm so caught up in taking care of the dog, family, working and studying for my advanced nursing diploma (exams in June!) that I haven't really given how I look much thought. Most importantly I've been sticking mostly like Monday -thursday to a low carb diet and fasting 16:8 then I go a bit off the rails thursday-sunday then back on it Monday...
Not bingeing though which I think is healthy, trying to just have some sugar and accept instead of being like 'this is a sugar day' and making myself sick.

Otherwise.. we have put an offer in for a new house.... we will know on 1st of April if we got it or not... nerve wracking. I guess a lot is going on maybe a bit too much to add counting calories to but I think just cutting down on sugar helps my whole SELF.

CycleGirl20 · 13/03/2021 11:32

Thanks @PhoenixMama I'll try playing around with it. I don't have time off for a few weeks so if I've lost enough by then, maybe I can even swap to 5:2 for some time.

Welcome back @shreddergodo. I'm new here ☺️

HeeHiHoHum · 13/03/2021 20:21

May I join you all? I’m week 2 of doing BSD and hoping to complete 12 weeks of this, although that seems an incredibly long time to do this for. I think I’m eating too much fat and not enough protein, so need to work on that!

I’m going to try and navigate a Mother’s Day roast tomorrow, which might be a bit tricky, but hoping the walk afterwards helps a bit too.

fizzfridays · 14/03/2021 07:33

Hi everyone, may I join you? I've been reading up on the fast800 and I'm ready to dive in. I would like to loose 2 stone overall, but will be much happier once the first stone is off and can take the second a bit more slowly.

I used to be very slim, my bmi was normally 19-21, but a few years ago I stopped smoking and piled on some weight, then added another stone or so over lockdown!

One thing I was wondering is how people have found the transition from 800cals every day to 800 a few times a week. Did you find you overate on non-800 days? I'm worried I'll get there then just pile it all back on again.

Suffolkelfie · 14/03/2021 08:31

Hello everyone can I join you?
I am starting the Fast 800 properly today. I have read the book and have the Fast 800 Easy recipe book. I have meal planned for the week.
I gave up sugar, alcohol and bread for lent and have lost 7lb over the last 3.5 weeks, so probably won’t get the big first week weight loss.

Weight 16/02 12:1
Weight 14/03 11:8
Waist 35”
Belly 38”

I am apple shaped and want to lose the belly fat to hopefully reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and other health problems.
I plan to eat between 12pm and 8pm.
I have also drastically reduced my tea and coffee consumption recently and now just have one coffee per day at lunchtime, as a result I am sleeping much better.

Overrunwithlego · 14/03/2021 08:55

@cyclegirl20 I’d up your calories a bit if you are doing a significant amount of exercise, but make sure it’s the right type of food, and definitely don’t ‘replace it all’. Be careful if you are fasting - I went out for a 40km bike ride on a Sunday morning during the 800, having not eaten since 6pm the night before. My battery was completely and utterly gone by the time I got back and it wiped me out for the rest of the day.

CycleGirl20 · 14/03/2021 09:50

Welcome @fizzfridays & @HeeHiHoHum 👋. I'm new here too so can't really say about going onto the 5:2. Maybe add calories back slowly? So 1000 cals for a few weeks on non-fast days, then 1200... Etc. Or maybe have a few more than 2 fast days to start and phase onto 5:2?

Thanks @Overrunwithlego. I have a few weeks before I do my cycling staycation. I'm thinking about doing something like a 5:2/4:3/3:4 with eating the Mediterranean style like I am now and counting cals, but doing 800cal days and maybe 1200-1800 on cycling days.

shreddergodo · 15/03/2021 08:48

MerryMonday all! Hello everyone and welcome newcomers!

Weighed today at 10 stone 4 on the dot. Black coffee this morning and the sun is shining. I’m amazed still and barely having put back on, I really wanna get back on the strict diet this week but I’m so ... wel I say that and then I do the opposite

fizzfridays · 15/03/2021 11:07

Morning everyone. First official day here, I eased in and ate low carb and 16:8 over the weekend but did have quite a bit of wine!

Weight this morning is 142, and my ultimate goal is to get back to 112-116 which was previously my normal range. It seems an awful lot but I'm just going to take it one day at a time.

Not too hungry so far but I am freezing cold- I don't really like hot drinks so really feel the cold when fasting! Have some emergency bone broth in case I struggle too much, but the plan is to split my cals into 2 meals per day.

Good luck everyone!

CycleGirl20 · 15/03/2021 14:26

Happy Monday! I'm feeling good today. Losing about 500g a day at the moment! Target weight in 20 days at this rate! Grin

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 15/03/2021 15:36

Struggling at the moment, cannot get those scales to budge this week and I’m so chilly! Feeling fine on the food though but my Dr surgery have just sent a text asking for weight and I wanted to put lower. Ho hum, just goes to show that it obviously isn’t just about calories in, calories out for our bodies. I’ve just paid for a Thriva test to check my thyroid.

PhoenixMama · 15/03/2021 17:24

Hi all! Haven't weighed myself yet but will do tomorrow. Super tired here ugh!

Nice to see some newbies - welcome!
