There are certainly clubs much bigger than us in the region and some that I can think of nationally but I think we are probably quite a big club compared to many - but not as big as other city clubs.

Teateaandmoretea · 10/06/2025 20:12

You’re definitely at a big club though. I’d generally say we’re small but maybe because of that I’m aware there are lots smaller - both from leagues pov but also those which are too small to get a team out. Ours is pretty chilled, you do what works for you and that’s pretty much it.

itsgettingweird · 10/06/2025 20:47

Yeah I think it’s probably big in comparison to many others having come from a small club (definitely small rather than smaller iyswim?!)

I was really worried when ds wanted to move as I was worried about pressure and if I’m honest other parents attitudes.

Luckiky bar the odd one or two we don’t have any of that. It’s a lovely nurturing environment with a great ethos and a club that really looks after its swimmers.

In our experience the small club had a more “favourite swimmer(s)” attitude than the current one!!!!

itsgettingweird · 25/06/2025 17:29

Hope everyone is doing ok?

The dates for next years AGB champs at Easter is after the school Easter holidays.

Is that usual?

We’ve only been doing it 2yrs and both times have been in holidays.

Im wondering how that works for those doing exams or if other LAs have different holidays to us?

Locallassie · 26/06/2025 07:26

Exams in Scotland will start on the 22nd of April so the dates are incredibly close to them starting. SNAGs are from the 4th-9th of April so that is a tough one for Scottish kids trying to fit in revision. It always is mind you!

Glittertwins · 26/06/2025 12:53

Well, he won’t be swimming if he manages to qualify and there’s an exam! I think the majority of his exams are after the bank holiday week in June though.

Thanks. He did a PB on the IM this morning which was a good start.

We’ll ignore the rest 🤣

The assist certainly helps him but his top half still wobbles but I don’t think we can stop that. Both his fly legs of the IM have been fab though!

Locallassie · 27/06/2025 19:42

He looked good this morning when we were there @itsgettingweird Just wish they’d fix the ladies loos at the RCP. It’s bad enough when we are there for training but when there’s a meet on and the flushes don’t work properly it’s a bad look!

Hopefully he isn’t using the ladies 😉😂

seriously though I feel your pain with loos and meets.

our pool has been having roof work for months now which has meant some areas are shut off - toilets and all!

Is your swimmer competing then? DS has 2 ok swims - he never races IM but AGB wanted them to swim everything they qualified for and he qualified all apart from breast (which if you watched the IM you’ll know why 🫣😂🤦🏼‍♀️)

glitter are you up there too?

Glittertwins · 27/06/2025 21:50

Nope, we’re not there due to prior commitments (and he didn’t want to race so close to British summers) but others from the club are there.

😂 I hope not, the queue is bad enough!
yes DD swam this morning. It’s one of her training pools. Mixed bag. Wider aspects of performance were spot on and that’s something she’s been struggling with. Time not great and that’s all she’s focussing on. You know, the usual swimmer things!!!
Next stop is Aberdeen for us in two weeks. Was good to see a strong para team there.

itsgettingweird · 28/06/2025 06:32

Is that the Home nations nationals in Aberdeen? Da has swam there before and really liked the pool.

He has 100 back today. He’s not a backstroker by any stretch of the imagination so hopefully it’ll just be job done and time to rest as tomorrow he has 400 free 100 fly and 50 free which are all his events - although he never usually swims them in 1 session - that’ll be interesting 🫣🤣

Locallassie · 28/06/2025 07:50

That s a busy session! Yes home nationals. Snags and Summer Nationals have been in Aberdeen for the last three years now! It is a nice pool and DD often swims well there so it’s a favourite of hers too.

itsgettingweird · 28/06/2025 08:40

We have British nationals (or AGB next Gen or whatever it’s called this week 😂) the week after that.

We going the Saturday and he races Sunday, tues, weds and Thurs! We will come home in the Friday a little worse for wear and I’ll be grateful it’s school holidays and I have a few weeks off.

He - however - will be back to work the following Monday 🤪

itsgettingweird · 28/06/2025 21:23

@Porseb Is DD out competing at Europeans now?

Porseb · 29/06/2025 08:07

@itsgettingweird- yes. Check out pool of the day ☺️

Watched Popovici break the European record last night too - was amazing swim especially the second 50.

Swimming didn’t go particularly well for DD but this was a train through meet for her next meet in July.

I bet that was good to watch

itsgettingweird · 29/06/2025 08:36

I bet that was exciting to watch!

Pool looks lovely. I find it very odd when I watch ds do a swim though meet (he is now but only watching his you tube) - very jealous of your view 🤗

Hope DD enjoys herself.

Glittertwins · 29/06/2025 12:08

It’s rather expensive at nearly £8 a session to watch online too.

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 29/06/2025 13:19

What’s £8 a session online? The Europeans? Mind you that’s cheap compared to entry price but I’d rather be in the sun at that pool watching it live.

DS had a good morning. 4 swims including 1 relay and made all 3 finals this evening.

Im not sure how much he’ll have left to do it all over again 🫣😂

Glittertwins · 29/06/2025 17:02

yes, per session. Normally a lot less for whole event or no charge. I’d rather be sat there watching it too though - with plenty of sunscreen!

OP posts:
Porseb · 30/06/2025 04:42

It’s actually cheaper to watch sessions in person (excluding flights and accommodation!).

I got an all sessions ticket for €20. Yes, it was sweltering - first day was up to 35C 🥵 but atmosphere really good with fans.

That’s a good price.

Costs me that for one finals session at most national meets - very annoying when he’s racing a 50m free and it takes less than half a second 😂

Glittertwins · 30/06/2025 10:55

Half a minute surely?? Not even Popovici can do half a second 😆
