Hi
I thought I would start a new thread as the other one must be nearly full and I might have lots of questions as it is our first time!
My DD is in the U10s for 2018 and hopefully also in South Easterlies. I told my parents about her getting a place and they would like to come to her concert if possible (I understand that this is 11am on 19 August at Port Regis school) or have volunteered to look after my younger children instead if needed. Given my parents get booked up months in advance (they have a very active social life!) and Port Regis isn’t particularly near where we live so we might end up booking accommodation, then I wondered if anyone could let me know how this works:

  • do we get a limited number of tickets? I assume there must be some kind of limit.
  • would the concert be suitable for children (my younger DC will be 7 and 5 by then)?
Thanks very much.

Wasn't the only one! But not even possible for strings as they had few gaps in playing. There were four enormous harps with four much smaller mini musicians!

Trumpetboysmum · 04/03/2018 09:09

I wish they didn't have so many breaks but that's the nature of orchestral trumpet playing . Ds said the harps got to go out for a bit as they weren't playing in one piece . Luckily on the residential courses a lot of time is spent in sectionals so they do other playing as well as preparing the music for the course ( the strings always have such a lot to prepare they don't have this luxury !!)

dominostein · 04/03/2018 18:59

Hi Three! We will have to get both mutes for DD - she plays in a wind band so hasn't needed one so far.
I really hope that I find out tomorrow which part DD is playing!!! It would certainly make the practising easier.

ThreeAndUs · 05/03/2018 11:08

For the U10s NCO course in the summer, can anyone remember and/or send me a link to where it says what time we have to get them there on the first day? I can only find details saying the concert is 11am the following Sunday. (I remember seeing timings on the application form for audition but can't find that now.)

dominostein · 05/03/2018 11:53

I can't see anything on the paperwork about when it starts (just checked) - I just assumed they would let us know at some point.

ThreeAndUs · 05/03/2018 13:11

I just gave them a quick call (we have a wedding reception the night before and it'll be a 3 hour drive for us!). They haven't got timings for this year yet but last year they asked the U10s to arrive between 2-3pm.

I also asked about tickets for the concert and they said they usually allocate 4 tickets per child (and that you can ask for more but they will only be given if available).

Hope they will give the dates for next regionals soon as I have a few things to confirm and plan!

dominostein · 05/03/2018 13:13

That's useful to know - thanks! Yes, I could really do with finding out the next regionals dates soon too - organising transport/babysitting for the rest of the DC is always so difficult.

Hi we're new to all of this, but just wondering if we should have already received the music for the April residential trip.

Wafflenose · 10/03/2018 19:02

No, one year we didn't receive any at all, but it's usually a couple of weeks before.

Trumpetboysmum · 10/03/2018 19:15

I asked Ds about this today none if the under 13s have any music yet - last year they didn't get any for the easter course !!

Radiodependent · 11/03/2018 08:00

Hello, for those going to South Easterlies today apparently the new M&S food hall near the hall is now open but not sure if that will affect the parking or whether it has it’s own. We have made little cakes but no icing sugar in the house so off to the shops this morning!

Siriusmuggle · 15/03/2018 09:32

Main orchestra extracts have just arrived, look very tricky to me!

Trumpetboysmum · 15/03/2018 14:44

Haven't looked at the under 13s yet though I'm about to print them out . They are always the hard bits though so I tell Ds not to stress ( doesn't always work Grin)

Siriusmuggle · 15/03/2018 15:16

I can't imagine mine will stress, he really ought to stress more!
He can't wait for Sherborne now.

Trumpetboysmum · 15/03/2018 15:33

No Ds is very excited too and he has the same tutor he had last year so that's good he really likes him . Both of his tutors were excellent last year . I've just looked at the music and yes it looks pretty tricky in places luckily Ds can go through it with his teacher and not me ( a sure fire way to have many arguments!!)

bassclef · 19/03/2018 08:58

Has anyone ordered DVDs for this year? The "shop" page on the website only has previous years available, but I'm wondering if I've missed something as I think we've been able to order by now.
Many thanks!

Siriusmuggle · 26/03/2018 07:51

Hoody has arrived now so he’s all excited. He’s also discovered that as well as a girl from his county youth orchestra there is a girl from his other city Youth Orchestra going. He’s really excited now.

TrumpetVoluntary · 26/03/2018 19:55

DD has her hoodie too - she is wearing it as frequently as possible!
No idea about DVDs though, sorry.
I wish they would send us the rest of the dates for South Easterlies - it would be really helpful for planning things.

ThreeAndUs · 26/03/2018 21:11

Still need to order the hoodie!

Yes the dates would be handy!

Wafflenose · 26/03/2018 21:25

I can barely prise Rara's off her, and she sleeps with it at night!

Trumpetboysmum · 27/03/2018 09:11

We ordered our hoodiecages ago hoping it turns up before the course !!

Trumpetboysmum · 27/03/2018 09:11

Hoodie ages ago !!!

bassclef · 27/03/2018 09:34

Ours only arrived on Sunday (came via Hermes), so fingers crossed yours come soon. It was 5 weeks from ordering (I think, but could check for you when I'm home) You could email the company that makes them to check off it's been dispatched yet?

Trumpetboysmum · 27/03/2018 10:58

Thanks I think it should be with us early next week then - which is just in time for the course !!

ThreeAndUs · 29/03/2018 08:50

Just ordered the hoodie. Now to wait 4 weeks! If you got their name put on it where does it go?
