Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

AnnieLobeseder · 02/01/2010 20:40

About time I joined you folks really - I'm a long-time runner though currently lazier than a should be! Half-marathon is my distance of preference, I do all my training off-road in the healthland around me with my two dogs...

.....oops, DD2 needs a bedtime story, will be back later....

fishie · 02/01/2010 22:30

marathon thread looks great

pre-olympics here i am scared of races.

MrsWednesday · 03/01/2010 10:56

Welcome Annie.

Thanks for the GNR ballot Popsy, I have signed up.

Anyone setting themselves running targets for the year? I'm trying to do 500 miles in 2010 - have managed 3 so far!

Beautiful wintry day here, the sun is shining and the snow is falling at the same time so may try and sneak out for a short one later.

sfxmum · 03/01/2010 11:26

hello welcome Annie

dh just got back from his first run and dd is showing him the appropriate post run stretches

about goals I really just want to make sure I run a minimum of 3x 3milesa per week with a long weekend run, if I manage that for the first 3 months I will review goals
not doing badly so far
don't think I will be doing any races but who knows

will be hopefully returning to paid employment after being a SAHM since 2005 when dd was born, apart from brief period when I returned in 06.
still work must fit in with running obviously

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/01/2010 11:48

Ladies, how marvellous to have recruited so many people already, it's fantastic!

Welcome Annie.

It's been too busy and wet to run much lately, today I managed a poor 6.5k but it has at least got my focus back.

Someone is trying to persuade me to take up heptathlon training and enter into a 'Masters' event with them. I can't imagine Fosbury Flopping at my age.

AnnieLobeseder · 03/01/2010 13:56

Thanks for the welcome all.

Not feeling much like a runner at the moment!! It must be a couple of weeks since I last made it out the door.

I was supposed to do a Cani-X 5km with the dogs this morning, but DH is away, and my mum, who stayed over to look after the DDs while I was running, came down with a tummy bug in the night so we had to give it a skip. I think it's the first time I've ever been entered in a race and not run it!

Never mind, got a 10-ish km race at the end of the month. As soon as DH gets home on Tues I'll get my butt out there again.

girlsyearapart · 03/01/2010 14:09

Well done Popsy.

Can I still lurk/post in a jealous way even though I'm not running atm??

popsycal · 03/01/2010 15:36

i'm going to aim for 5 hours a week this year. although am just signing up for pilates class so that's one evening less to run in. my lower stomach muscles are non-existent.

have just tried my 15k route out, all good for mn marathon. popsy i could do less if needed btw, whatever is most useful.

sfxmum · 03/01/2010 16:06

I will be looking at the Pilates class at my local gym tomorrow I definitely need to get get into it again, as I never tire of saying had a back pain free pregnancy which I attribute to doing regular Pilates classes

NoahAndTheWhale · 03/01/2010 16:09

Hello

I was IdrisTheDragon but got discovered in a RL way so have changed .

Went running this morning . Hadn't been since end of November . Once DD starts school (2nd week of Jan) will hopefully do weekday running twice a week and once at weekends.

Was pleased that I could still do 5k in about 30 min, although my slightly dodgy pubic bone is feeling a little dodgy (had SPD with DS who is 6 and it sometimes flares up a bit).

It needs more regular running I think

soyabean · 03/01/2010 16:41

Hello all
Ran again this morning, about 6k I guess, and felt fine so am getting back into the swing of things . This aft I went to Decathlon and didn't manage to get new running shoes (hideous and didn't fit either) but got some new running trousers (chickened out of tights) and a zip up top layer. Looking forward to trying them out and looking a bit less 'baggy' when I run!

MoshiMoshi · 03/01/2010 17:34

Hello all. I have not run since Monday when I returned from 10K along the towpaths to be told the news of my father's sudden death. I know I should get out there but I can't seem to do it, and the kids keep getting in the way too. Everything is a bit odd at the moment so hopefully keeping in touch will reignite my enthusiasm before long. I feel quite numb and the funeral is not until two weeks' time so I am going to have to find some coping mechanisms. School starts this week too so we shall see how I manage to deal with the mundanity of life. I keep telling myself to focus on the kids but, apart from the baby, I am finding them very trying which makes me feel quite guilty of course...

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/01/2010 18:05

Moshi, I saw your news about your father's sudden death. I am so sorry. I am sure your life will be all over the place for quite some time. I would imagine it's quite natural to find the dc quite tiring. I often find mine very tiring .

Can you arrange lots of playdates for them when school is back? I'm sure your friends will understand.

soyabean · 03/01/2010 18:10

Moshi I can sort of imagine how you are feeling and hope your friends and dcs parents will be able to step in to help.

I arrived back from a run 4 weeks ago to be told of my friend's sudden death too - obviously its not related but it did add an extra barrier to me getting out running again. I have done it in the last three days - so it did take a while. And I re-took up smoking in reaction to the news so have had to chuck that in too...

Master now that i am back in circulation (sort of)I will be sending you your cd I promise - haven't forgotten.

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/01/2010 18:14

soya too. I hope the running can help you both a bit.

I had totally forgotten about the CD , so no hurry.

Wheelybug · 03/01/2010 20:10

Sorry to read of sad news Moshi and Soya.

Am just popping in as have been away but wow ! Well done popsy on getting things started.

I have been a little foolish and DH asked me to enter him into the GNR ballot (don't ask why he couldn't do it himself) and I ended up entering myself too.... Goodness knows how I'll manage to do the training if my name comes up. What was I thinking ? Anyway, has made me realise I should commit to a 10K for the MN marathon esp as people are pledging 5K that haven't stepped outside yet.

That said, my knee injury flaired up so I haven't run for a week. Hope to get out tomorro before dh goes back to work but dd2 is ill so keeping me up most of the nights at the mo so I may wimp out.

Wheelybug · 03/01/2010 20:12

Oh does anyone have a good 10K training plan going from 5K to 10K ? I have had a google but they are either v. serious 10K plans which result in you running 10 miles by the end or real beginner ones - I guess I could just adapt one of these or probably i should just run a bit longer each time, I think that;'s what I did last time.

newgirl · 03/01/2010 20:16

wheely - the liz yelling book 'running for women' has three 10k plans in it - i think it is an excellent book - about siz quid on amazon i would think

popsycal · 03/01/2010 20:28

wheelybu - I always use the bupa plans - the 10k one is good.
This time last year, I had not run for over a year due to pregnancy and ds. I started couch to 5k from scratch and the end of january 09 and did GNR 9 months later (10k being my previous furthest distance) - so you are a step ahead of where I was.

Will find you the 10kplan

OP posts:
popsycal · 03/01/2010 20:30

beginner's 10k

OP posts:
popsycal · 03/01/2010 20:35

I have a question about running. Since GNr i have been hit and miss but a few weeks ago, I went out for 7 miles in just over an hour so clearly have still maintained some stamina. Do I need to go back to scratch with a 10 mile plan? It builds in tempo and speed work (which I hate) but ought to do. ANd I could to my speed.tempo session on the treadmill whilst ds1 has his swimming lesson.....maybe

sanfairyann · 03/01/2010 20:36

hello all, I've been lurking on the other mahoosive thread. I'm new to running, doing the couch to 5k, am 4 weeks in and can run/walk for 30 mins without feeling like i might die (a big change, believe me). aiming to do GNR as a run/walk if I can get a place. chat soon

popsycal · 03/01/2010 20:38
