Hydrotherapy for me today! I need to look into some upper body workouts as I’ve stopped doing anything with my resistance bands.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/09/2025 10:08

I’m having a bit of a mare since I joined this thread as I was on holiday and out of my fitness routine. Now I’m back I’m having a little op later - no strenuous exercise for 2 weeks. And the Little workout I was going to squeeze in this morning was cancelled - power cut at the gym.

I am being thwarted at every turn!

nowinetimeforme · 30/09/2025 10:37

Hello! Can I join please?

I used to exercise a lot (mainly cycling but also a fair bit of s&c to aid the cycling and some running thrown in). Just over 4 years ago I had my first kid (2nd is nearly 2) and I’ve not done much since then. I’ve had periods of making a bit of an effort (usually running, with or without the buggy) and I’d improve a bit but then I’d get thrown off track (usually by a massive sleep regression of a toddler disease of some kind). I’ve also substituted regular exercise for regular glasses of wine, which obviously hasn’t helped. Anyway, I turned 41 recently and I need to get back to exercising regularly- I miss it so much.

yesterday I walked DS2 to nursery (12.5km round trip) and this morning I did the same but ran about a third of it so I’m feeling positive.

BezMills · 30/09/2025 14:36

When I was younger I did think about going to Thailand to train. These days I'm not remotely free to disappear off to train, I have far too much going on!

If I did have loads of time and no responsibilities I'd rather become a surf/yoga bum probably.

Alittlefrustrated · 30/09/2025 16:09

Welcome nowinetimeforme! Sounds like a great start from you - try to take it steady, so you avoid injury. (Or is that just for oldies like me?)
Do you know when your op is BitOutOfPractice? Life does get in the way sometimes, but any activity is better than none, when original plans are thwarted. Hope all goes well for you.
36 x 25m swim this morning. Been volunteering this pm and at the theatre tonight, so that's it from me today.
169.

FurForksSake · 30/09/2025 18:09

Hydrotherapy today, 45 minutes in the pool and I’m exhausted. I went to put my robe on afterwards and it had a massive spider in it, so that gave me some extra exercise when I jumped a mile 😆

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 30/09/2025 18:51

Hello @nowinetimeforme , sounds like you've a good base to get started back.

I feel sick at the thought of your 8 legged invader frustrated

Short run with ds this evening. It was mildly spitting as we left and proper winter rain by the time we got home.

Power cut at gym! Oh no.
I am meeting a possible PT today. She specialises in old and unfit mobility and rehab clients.
Will report back.

Happleandhorange · 30/09/2025 22:15

PT has cancelled in person appointment because she tired herself out working at gym this morning and needs to go home and rest. I'm not sure whether this is sensible selfcare or a sign of a crap PT. I kind of need someone reliable.

thank you!

Don’t worry, I don’t think there’s much chance of me overdoing it. Under-doing it has been more my issue recently 😂

Im in London overnight tomorrow for work and I’d normally not bother but I’m taking my trainers so I can do an early morning run along the river. I used to live by Tower Bridge so im looking forward to that.

Happleandhorange · 01/10/2025 05:29

Have now spoken to second PT. Didn't really gel: I didn't feel she was being totally upfront with me, seemed more to be tailoring her interests to what she thought I wanted to hear.

Happleandhorange · 01/10/2025 05:30

But did a bit of Bodycombat and (ahem) yoga on the LM At Home app. So still a workout day.

Definitely worth finding one that you gel with - it’s expensive and in my experience having a good report makes a massive difference to your attitude and the results you’ll get. I used to love my PT sessions when I had a really good one.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 01/10/2025 18:33

S&c this evening.

1 hr pilates class
90 mins qigong class
170.

Happleandhorange · 02/10/2025 10:07

PT no 3 seems good. We have an appointment booked for next week.
This is good, because Yom Kippur has just finished and I have eaten all the pizza, fried chicken and doughnuts in the southern hemisphere, despite not actually fasting for the previous twentyfive hours due to diabetes!

My teens fasted though, so I felt it was only supportive to eat like a pig alongside them before and after!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 02/10/2025 18:04

Hi everyone, I am tired!!! Need some motivational words 😩

I had a mild tummy bug this weekend so missed training on Monday as I wasn't 100%... did a standard lifting session on Tues but unaccountably managed to "tweak" my back on my SMR deadlifts.... then had an early start for work so only got to do a lite version of my SnC circuits.

I have a 10k race on the 12th and I just feel tired and stiff.....think I'll do gentleish versions of my training for next week and then take a few rest and recovery days after my race.

Sensible?

Happleandhorange · 03/10/2025 09:46

An unexpected detour on my fitness journey tonight. The fancy gym branch near synagogue has just opened a Reformer Pilates studio. I haven't considered going because it has waiting lists in the hundreds for each session.
But tonight as I walked in, there was a space free, and the reception woman asked if I wanted it! So I took it up. And Reformer Pilates feels like it could be really good for me at the moment, it felt more like physio than exercise as such. I may wait and hope interest dies down a bit, so that it's possible to get a space.

FurForksSake · 03/10/2025 09:53

After my surgery and rehab I am hoping to get back to Pilates and eventually try reformer.

I’ve managed my physio exercises today and we are off for a wobble around a garden centre.

DH has told me after my surgery he wants me to keep seeing the physio and find a good PT so that I can keep my health.

Happleandhorange · 03/10/2025 10:05

That sounds great, @ForForkssake. My impression was that it could be either really difficult and demanding, or really accessible, depending on the attitude of the tutor and how much help you got. By good fortune, the assistant tutor works as a doctor, she spotted my flailing shoulder and funny gait and came over to help me work out how to make the exercises work. Afterwards she said that a lot of ablebodied people do the exercises with very poor technique, and think the idea is just to stretch themselves as far as possible: she said that doing what I could do, but with care and control, would have huge benefits longterm. I hope that is true for us both.

StrongLikeMamma · 03/10/2025 16:51

What are the numbers?

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 03/10/2025 20:28

@Happleandhorange ah I used to do Reformer pilates and really loved it. I had a core steel then <wistful>

That was before the damn' children obviously

Alittlefrustrated · 03/10/2025 20:53

7.8 mile walk with inclines/rocky paths. Got very wet and cold.

60 mins home gym workout which included a calisthenic video. Not sure if i should persevere or not? It is a 7 day calisthenic challenge and Day 1 i cannot do the push ups (i do them on my knees instead), i cannot do all the planks (knees again) and i cannot barely manage the side plank (use folded leg on floor). I cannot do all do the rest though.
im wondering if i should persevere or not and repeat the 7 day challenge until i am able to do everything consistently or should i find something easier?
it is really hard to find a video that hits the spot, not too easy, not too hard, no jumping, no fancy equipment (swiss ball/kettlebell/medicine ball), not too long, not too short …
i wish i had money for a PT!
