Haha very real and honest mixed emotions when your friend joins in but is really good straight away! Happens to us all from time to time.

Crossfits again today. Yesterday was strict press (overhead barbell press) then the workout was actually good! Pullups, handstand wall walk, jumping over a bar. All three things I want to train, and no bladdy ergs!

Today was deadlift (new PR) then the workout was more like standard crossfit daftness. A minute flat out on the ski erg then attempt max reps of a complicated two-stage Olympic lift (clean and jerk). I mean wtaf.

Ffs lol crossfit gonna crossfit!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 24/09/2025 19:12

Hi, just wondering if I can join?

I train a few times a week, mixture of heavy weights, S&C circuits with quite a lot of plyometrics, and a medium run.

I don't Crossfit but I did recently think..... shall I have a midlife crisis and sign up for a Hyrox?????

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 19:44

I’ve managed my physio exercises today, and then ended up in a heap of pain. Baby steps!

Welcome Johnny

Hyrox is 100% legit midlife crisis fodder, go for it!

Honestly to me it just sounds like all the bits of crossfit I like the least, for actual hours. I'll pass on that.

But it's really popular so yeah, horses for courses.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 24/09/2025 21:15

Ha, thanks! I didn't run for lit years and just started again last Jan. I have my first 10k in early Oct and then going to start Hyrox training and see how I get on.

I had a crack on Tues by tacking 1 min of AMRAP press ups + 1km run onto my usual circuits. It was okay.... I think!

Alittlefrustrated · 24/09/2025 21:47

1 hour pilates class
Squeezed in a brisk walk but only about 2 mile

That definitely counts as a workout! Well done!

Happleandhorange · 25/09/2025 07:43

Friend did not turn up to be bouncy and bendy at Pilates. But has a personal trainer booked for tomorrow morning. I await news.
In exciting news, I discovered that hidden behind the treadmill on the top floor is a cushioned bench, up against the window. So it's possible to sit down and have a proper rest.

Pilates was very tough so probably good I only had to focus on myself! I started feeling a hypo towards the end. Went upstairs to changing room and had the packet of nuts that I now keep at all times in my bag. Was then fine, able to shower and get home safely. Much less dramatic than last time.

No. 28?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 25/09/2025 11:20

Hello @JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff . Hyrox is hideous (and i only did a mini one), the perfect mid life crisis 😂

S&c this morning. I had to do a lot of modifications as it was shoulders/upper body push. I'm very annoyed that despite 3 days of doing my physio and taking marine collagen my shoulders aren't better 🙃

I'm just sitting in the back looking up words like plyometrics and hyrox.

Happleandhorange · 25/09/2025 11:43

@MotherForkinShirtBalls I am sorry. Shoulders are such a pita. But you're doing all the right things.

@BezMills I discovered this amazing fact tonight. Mr Les Mills is still alive and lives in the next street to me. He's about 98 and regularly walks his dog on our beach. Apparently he was mayor of Auckland and an Olympic athlete, I knew none of this.

No way that's amazing! I think he's a living legend honestly.

I'm no longer working under the LM brand but I'm extremely proud to be a BodyCombat instructor and grateful to the LM company and the trainers and my fellow instructors. If I had a choice I would still teach BodyCombat, I loved teaching that class so much.

Hello, can i join please?
i used to run a lot and do lots of yoga but after kids and gaining lots of weight, i stopped doing anything. I have lost quite a lot of weight recently thanks to mounjaro and i am exercising more.
in a week i try to do:
. One hot yoga flow class
. two home gym sessions (usually 15-20 mins treadmill + a youtube video. I like growingananas videos)

i am also working on my pelvic floor and would very much like to be able to run without wetting myself again. Any tips appreciated (i will be booking a women physio appointment soon)
i am working on doing a push up. I can go down slowly but i cant get up straight (i can get up if ibend my body tho) any tips for push ups appreciated too!
thanks!

Alittlefrustrated · 25/09/2025 21:13

Welcome Placestogo! Goodness me, this thread is on fire at the moment!!
Have you considered pilates for your pelvic floor? Maybe see physio for assessment first.
I've had a busy day, but managed a brisk 4 mile walk.
165.

Happleandhorange · 26/09/2025 04:55

OMG today's workout was extraordinary. It was called The Trip, and a scenic cycle class in town seemed a great way to get over my phobia of that huge noisy gym branch (I'd spent the morning at art gallery).
It was this mad but enthralling virtual reality cycle in front of a huge screen where it genuinely felt like we were exploring the universe, incredible. It was a very strange feeling going up and down visually whilst staying in the same place on the ground.
I did first half of the class, then baled as I didn't want to overload my vision and give myself a migraine.
Then I went out and explored the weights machines. Discovered that I have a pair of (super weak) rear deltoids. Who knew????

FurForksSake · 26/09/2025 07:44

I used to do The Trip a couple of times a week, it was always brilliant!

StrongLikeMamma · 26/09/2025 07:57

Does anyone do spinning?
I am a bit scared to start for some reason 😬

FurForksSake · 26/09/2025 08:23

The Trip is a spinning class, I used to do quite a bit, you need to find the right class, but try as many as you can. You don’t have to increase the resistance as much as the instructor, build up gradually.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/09/2025 08:30

Hello! I’d also like to join if I may. I have loved reading it so far.

I say that but I’m on holiday this week so all bets are off with exercise though I will try and move Every day if I can.

I’m 58 and am doing a mix of cardio (running, spin) and strength training.

BadActingParsley · 26/09/2025 08:41

Pilates last night and I ache more from that than the gym. Gym this morning, but tired from sleeping badly. 56 and just off to work now. The weekend will be dog walking….

Happleandhorange · 26/09/2025 09:13

Hello @BitOutOfPractice ! Welcome. I think I am allowed to say that now.

StronglikeMama, to me spinning just feels like an exercise bike.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/09/2025 11:26

I did a good SnC circuit session yesterday - I have put together my own circuits that incorporate walking lunges, press ups, mountain climbers, box jumps etc. Tacked on 1 min press-ups and 1km run at end, phew!

I felt a bit slow / grumpy tight glutes today so did a slow 11km run. Going to have 2 rest days then back for heavy weights on Monday

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/09/2025 11:34

@Placestogo I have had twins and had some PF issues, mostly completely resolved now.

Deffo see a specialist women's physio. Mine got me doing "sub max contractions" i.e. holding PF muscles at say 50% tension, for 1 min at a time. Then, remedial physio in gym doing things like lunges, hopping and low jumping e.g. on to a Reebok step.

Then progressing using a sports physio (so different physio).

What I didn't appreciate was how much my PF interacted with other muscles (bigger muscles groups). I kept doing my PF clenches, right? Turned out, the actual problem was a weak/ spasmy left glute. That wasn't "kicking in" to support my PF reliably. So I could have done clenches till I was blue in the face and not resolved it. I would find a physio who really gets this.

In case it gives you hope, I have moved from a position where I had problems like you mention to being able to jump onto a 60cm box, deadlift more than my own bodyweight and run 10+ km without leakage. It is doable, it 100% is :)

Placestogo · 26/09/2025 14:44

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff thank you for sharing your experience!
i have seen a couple of physios (a womens one and a sports one) already a few years ago but i got bored. I am more motivated now so hopefully i will follow through.
thank you for giving me hope!
