Hello, can i join please?
i used to run a lot and do lots of yoga but after kids and gaining lots of weight, i stopped doing anything. I have lost quite a lot of weight recently thanks to mounjaro and i am exercising more.
in a week i try to do:
. One hot yoga flow class
. two home gym sessions (usually 15-20 mins treadmill + a youtube video. I like growingananas videos)

i am also working on my pelvic floor and would very much like to be able to run without wetting myself again. Any tips appreciated (i will be booking a women physio appointment soon)
i am working on doing a push up. I can go down slowly but i cant get up straight (i can get up if ibend my body tho) any tips for push ups appreciated too!
thanks!

You're doing the right thing actually. Keep doing the downward part, nice and slowly, and get back up by putting your knees down. You are well on the way to a full press up, honestly. What you are doing is the final progression, so you're almost there!

Line dancing class 🤠

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 26/09/2025 18:27

Wow, that was a busy few hours! Hello to all the new posters 😀

Ds and I have failed miserably with our running this week (we should be running now, instead he's out with friends), but I had a 25 minute sea dip at lunchtime. The water is getting colder again and with a crisp sunny day it's absolute bliss.

Hello I’m toying with the idea of joining this thread, and starting gym sessions. I usually swim 3 or 4 times a week but just had a break since I fractured my arm. I really need to start strength training as have low bone density. 59 (years not work outs! )

Happleandhorange · 26/09/2025 23:13

@B0D hello. I joined this thread with a recently broken arm (and then discovered I'd also sprained an ankle) so totally get the nervousness of recovering from injury.

Happleandhorange · 26/09/2025 23:16

I am wondering about getting a body composition scan done (one of the cheaper ones without radiation, not DEXA) as I thought if I did it again in three and then six months, it would act as motivation. Has anyone had this?

BezMills · 27/09/2025 08:41

Things that motivate are good! I always liked doing the same exercises and watching the numbers increase over the weeks. I'm missing that a little bit at crossfit tbh. The training is so varied that I don't have as much to track consistently

Placestogo · 27/09/2025 09:24

@BezMillsthanks for your encouraging words about push ups. I had plenty of practice today during my bootcamp class in the park.
so how do the numbers at the bottom of some posts work? i just start counting now? Until when? Tia

Hello @B0D . Are you a rugby fan??

@Placestogo ,yes, some people track days. It was a feature of the very first of these threads back when 'twas all fields which was a Juneathon, when we tried to do some exercise on each day of June. I'm not tracking this year as i have so many injuries at the moment that I was putting unnecessary pressure on myself to hit previous targets. So use the thread in whatever way is useful for you, it's great that way.

S&c this morning.

@MotherForkinShirtBalls thanks for the explanation/ bit of mumsnet history 😊
another question what is “s&c” strenght and cardio? Conditioning? Step and ..? Thank you!

there Is a Boditrax machine at my gym. I’m avoiding it at the moment 😬

I am delighted to say that I used the gym at the hotel this morning. Just 40 minutes of weights but felt pleased with myself for going. Mind you I’m currently lying on a sun lounger drinking beer. It’s all about balance right?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 27/09/2025 17:10

@Placestogo ,its strength and conditioning. I go to a small group training gym. Everyone has their own weight station where we do a set programme with whatever weights work for you (and as many modifications as I currently need for bockety joints). We do usually 2 sets of heavy lifting followed by a cardio circuit of some sort. Today was dead lift top set, chest supported rows alternating with something I've already forgotten for the second set and the cardio was an interval circuit of plank, lat pull downs, sled push and cossack lunges.

@bitoutofpractice I'm just finished match sideline duty and cleaning the house...gym, lounger and beer sounds like a much better balance!

90 mins Contemporary Dance class this am. Lots of improvisation, which we then had to perform to class 😳
Apparently we have a group "jazz" performance for an open day in November 😬
Anyway, it's good exercise, if mortifyingly out of my comfort zone. I'm letting go of my inhibition.....

BezMills · 27/09/2025 19:57

Very similar to my feelings about expressive ballet dance. I started the Barre class because I thought it would be good for my BodyCombat class (which it really is) but I got really into the actual dance bits to the point where they were my favourite part.

It's safe to say that prancing about in ballet pumps wasn't something I ever planned to do, but it just goes to show "give it a go"

Happleandhorange · 27/09/2025 22:55

Bodycombat this morning. You would have been proud of me @BezMills . I did everything bar the jumping for 45 minutes, then retired gracefully due to a knee niggle.
It's definitely getting easier now I know the basic structure and moves, even if I can't always remember do them perfectly!

Workout no 30, go me!

Happleandhorange · 27/09/2025 23:16

An interesting mental note on weights. I went into the floor area and realised I had forgotten my wrist guard. This is fine, because physio says is now optional. However, without it, I Could Not Lift A Butterfly.
Total mental block. I could not reason myself out of it. It was fascinating.

BezMills · 28/09/2025 09:34

You're right @Happleandhorange I am really proud of you, and ngl quite envious you are training with Topp BodyCombat instructors!

Also yes totally about the mental side of lifting. It's amazing the difference in strength you have between going :grrr arrhh I'm doing one more rep" and "oh dear I think I'm out of juice this isn't going to go"

Happleandhorange · 28/09/2025 10:11

Yes! My friend did yoga at gym today. She loved it. I hate yoga with a passion, so glad she's not asking me to go with her!

Placestogo · 28/09/2025 16:59

Hot yoga - flow class

Happleandhorange · 29/09/2025 10:43

Today was a mix of good and bad

Good: I did Conquer. A boxing circuit workout which was huge fun. My wrist could handle me punching the bag which was amazing. It's only available at one gym, City Centre. Was great

Bad: my podiatrist suggests it will take a year for my high grade tear in ankle ligament to fully heal. I cannot tell you how frustrating this is. It limits me so much.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 29/09/2025 18:49

That's a bit of roller coaster day, Happle Flowers

Today I'm feeling a bit more together. DS3 and I went to The Trip together. I may have broken him :-)
We had revolting spirulina smoothies in cafe afterwards.
