It was a mixed day @WearyAuldWumman

After breakfast (6 eggs scrambled, two slices of white bread and plenty butter) I went to have a sit down with the stone mason about getting DMs headstone made. Then off to Elie to get some sea water from where we put my dad's ashes. Had eye-wateringly spendy lunch with my bestie in Elie then off to my mum's grave to pour the water. Got a lift back over the bridge and now feet up in my hotel!

Ah yes. Sorting out the headstone is always stressful.

Yesterday was quite enthusiastic: couple of miles cycling, 9k steps, 15m dumb bells then 15m HIIT. Made the most of the sunshine available!

stilldumdedumming · 25/01/2026 19:15

I am behind on the thread. I am a bit limited in what I can do at the moment.

I have cheesy walking x 2 to add and physio of course.

I then have actual walking in Norfolk. It was sometimes tough - especially leading dp through busier places as he is nearly blind and has brain damage. But we walked 5 miles, 7.5 miles and 4 miles. Such an improvement for me. So I’m really happy with that.

I will read what I’ve missed and come back.

stilldumdedumming · 25/01/2026 19:23

Oh also we decided we need to clear out our children’s stuff from the garage and dp has suggested we make it a home gym for me. It opens onto open ish land so I won’t need to shut myself away. We have matting and a bar bell and dumbbell weight set. We have a spin bike but my knee won’t take it. What else do I need I wonder. I can get a bench from Facebook in time I think. I originally thought it was a bit cringe but then realised I’m actually pretty lucky.

FurForksSake · 25/01/2026 19:35

Physio and a walk to the allotment and back for me.

FurForksSake · 26/01/2026 21:11

Evening!

Ternty minutes or Pilates and physio. That’ll do me.

WearyAuldWumman · 26/01/2026 21:14

No training today. Too damned dizzy. Not Covid. (I tested myself.) Thought it was a sinus infection.

Finally dawned on me that the damned impacted wisdom tooth is affecting my right ear. Sheesh!

I'll take tomorrow off - it's settling again - and hope to start back on Wednesday.

FurForksSake · 26/01/2026 21:20

Ooh @WearyAuldWumman that sounds a bit miserable. Could it be infected as well?

WearyAuldWumman · 26/01/2026 21:24

Ooh @WearyAuldWumman that sounds a bit miserable. Could it be infected as well?

It's possible. I've had bits of bother for a good while now and had been dowsing the damned thing in Corsodyl, imagining that my gum care was somehow failing.

My dentist has already referred me, but Lord knows how long the waiting list is. Think I'll phone the practice tomorrow and ask whether additional info can be sent. I'm guessing I'll just be told to phone the emergency NHS dentist if it's too bad.

There's only a bit of discomfort - it was the swimming feeling that had me concerned.

stilldumdedumming · 26/01/2026 21:24

@WearyAuldWumman poor you. I hate feeling dizzy.

I am keeping on with what I can do. All the physio a bit of lower body and a cheesy power walk.

Happleandhorange · 27/01/2026 09:21

Car still broken down so gym difficult/impossible to get to. Have had sore feet since last week's trip and so decided to rest, other than dog walks. Managed to motivate myself to do foot and ankle stretches tonight and feel better for it. Feeling a little meh and think more movement would help.

BezMills · 27/01/2026 10:23

On Sunday I got up a bit hungover, and managed to go to the BodyCombat class at the Commie Pool. It was a different instructor to the last time, and we ended up having a lovely chat after the class. I was [] this close to not going, but so glad I did. I haven't done BC since the gym sacked lovely Anna Sensei and cut all in-person group fitness classes, 29th June 2025 - well I now think, I managed to maybe get one in at Kirkie late last year.

BezMills · 27/01/2026 10:25

Last night was my Boxercise class. Another big turnout, and I think it went really well. Pleased about that!

stilldumdedumming · 27/01/2026 19:44

That’s great news @BezMillsclass numbers are tough!
i am well and truly fed up of my achy body. And not being able to swim. Physio says I can go twice a week but I really don’t think I can.

Today was score class and 2 cheesy walks (I eat twice a day and I’m trying h to do cheesy walk after each meal if possible).

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 19:48

15 tough minutes on my exercise bike. I nearly fell down the stairs afterwards as I couldn’t feel my legs.

Happleandhorange · 28/01/2026 08:57

That sounds rough, @stilldumdedumming . I would trust your instincts.

Car battery funding was approved so I,will get back to gym eventually. Now just have to get it,fitted. I did two short dog walks today and also a scooter to pharmacy to get meds.

Happleandhorange · 28/01/2026 08:59

So I am not completely inactive but goodness I ache for actual workout again.

@BezMills so great you got to BC!!!!!

amazing! I mean don't fall down the stairs but that feeling of 'argh stairs noooo' it's something I'm quite familiar from some crossfit workouts

BezMills · 28/01/2026 09:47

It's so frustrating being grounded @Happleandhorange

This is supposed to be my last week of Crossfit but I've been stymied at every turn. I'm only going to be able to make it in on Friday, and even then it's dependent on work not being completely nuts.*

The traffic is absolutely ludicrous due to road closures both planned and apparently just "oh well I guess we should close the one last road into town right now, ooops lol", to the point where I almost feel bad for wanting to make a journey, and then adding to the chaos.

*Spoilers : work is currently completely nuts.

WearyAuldWumman · 28/01/2026 20:18

Thank goodness, made it back into the gym today.

Senior Flex class - upper body weights, cardio, weighted sit to stand, wall push-ups. The most I can manage seated was 3.75kg. 45 min class

Active for Life class: 15 minutes on bike.

Upper body - all with 6kg weights for the first time, but standing.

Side raises - only two sets of 5. (Both arms.)

Biceps curls - three sets of 12. (Both arms.)

Single arm low row - three sets of 6.

I'm stupidly pleased about this - 12kg is heavier than my 'good' accordion and approaching the weight of my late husband's chromatic button key accordion.

Why yes, I do have 4 accordions in the house. The other day, I finally realised why my left arm is a bit stronger than the left - spending my teenage years shoving the bellows on the accordion.

Still a long way away from where I want to be with weights, but I swear I could see arm muscles once I was pumped up. Just don't look at the fat belly!

PS One of the women in my class has gone down from a size 24 to a size 12. Apparently, someone at her work has told her to stop losing weight: "You're looking gaunt." [No, she's not. She's looking much fitter.]

This is a woman who is a cancer survivor and who is patently not prepared to take shit from anyone.

Apparently, she replied "You're looking fat."

Respect!

FurForksSake · 28/01/2026 20:33

@WearyAuldWumman so many things to love in this post! Achievements, squeeze boxes and feisty women!

FurForksSake · 28/01/2026 20:34

@FurForksSake plumber prevented my exercise bike adventures. But I did do some furious hoovering which left me oooped. This evening I’ve done twenty minutes of physio and Pilates.
