Shoulder physio and he says I can swim twice a week though I’m not convinced for now. So today was just a cheesy walk

Upper body workout, all with 5kg weights.

Biceps curls: 2 sets of 10 plus one of 11.

Single arm low rows. Each side: 3 sets of 10.

45 minute Pilates class.

10 and a bit miles coastal walk. My arthritic hips are complaining a little bit now that I've sat around. Worth it though.

19,000 steps in Wellington today. On a flying visit with DS. The end of the Great Summer Holidays.

stilldumdedumming · 20/01/2026 10:42

@FurForksSake my dp had a massive haemorrhagic stroke 6 years ago. He couldn’t talk for many months but he could swear. ‘Profanity is preserved’ according to the SALT! Physio was very blue indeed!!

@WearyAuldWumman blimey you’re going great guns!

I am off to Norfolk this weekend and will be scoping coastal walks for a visit later I think!

Yesterday I did have Crossfit booked but took the chance to pop into the gym in the next town. I was after a tour and maybe a free 'boxing fitness' class, and got both! So I was pretty chuffed to try out the class. It was a very good class, and was great to meet another instructor and 100% steal ideas from her

In the evening it was time for my class. I knew it would be busy and again with beginners, so this time I made sure to be well-organised. I turned up early, moved some tables, got my paperwork all ready and wrote down a class plan. 13 turned up in the end, and I'm well happy with that, class went well. Unfortunately I had two women turn up, similar ages, similar hair colour similar build and height, both names started with K. You can see where this is going... I'm not 100% sure which name goes with which person, unfortunately! Also two of the regulars are twins and I mistook one for the other. Minor cringe but they get it all the time. That was an avoidable mistake though as they have slightly different colour hair.

I've done really well with names overall, which is something I've really had to work on. My social skills are a bit hit and miss you could say, but I try. As I said to a friend who I have 20 years on the other day on the topic of his social struggles 'I'm just the same as you, I've just had more time to practice!'

Crossfits today. Was skipping, which I really struggle with. My singles are getting pretty decent but the goal is double unders, where the rope spins twice in one jump. Honestly quite a pointless skill, doesn't lead anywhere and yeah that is sour grapes for sure. I am interested in some skipping skills though, just maybe not that one, yet. There's a lot of fancy things that boxers do when skipping, and I feel like as a Boxercise instructor, I should somehow be decent at skipping. But so far, I'm not. At all.

WearyAuldWumman · 20/01/2026 19:26

I have never been able to get the knack of skipping. My mother tried to teach me to no avail. By contrast with me, she was very sporty.

My nadir was when my pals came to the door one day to ask if my mum was coming out to play...

Today's exercise consisted of a walk to the bus station and lots of walking around Edinburgh, but I don't think that I can count that. I have two classes tomorrow.

Comtesse · 20/01/2026 19:59

Still going - 35 min walk with weighted vest today, I think it’s 13lb at the moment. Feels fine to start with but can definitely feel it by the time I get back!

FurForksSake · 21/01/2026 20:52

Physio and exercise bike, done!

55 mins oilates class
90 mins qigong class
16/300

WearyAuldWumman · 21/01/2026 22:47

Only Senior Flex today - 45 minutes. A lot of band work plus some light weights.

BezMills · 22/01/2026 09:25

Yesterday the weather was horrendous during the school run, but cleared up at lunchtime. I cancelled Crossfit (I feel like I've already got one foot out the door) and went to the local gym for local people instead. I did a similar session to the previous week, but a bit bigger. Dead Lifts to 83% of max, definitely felt like enough! Overhead press to 77% of max also felt like plenty. I didn't feel like doing a hard sesh on the bench press after all the dumbells the day before so called it at that.

It was a pretty short session and I definitely could have done some more stuff, but sometimes I think "a win is a win, they don't all need to be big".

Not sure what I'll do today. I have a full day at my desk so I have time to do something at lunchtime.

Happleandhorange · 23/01/2026 00:23

I want to get to Dance today. But car has a flat battery and I've just had a grim interview for an art masters where they asked me how I'd cope with Palestine being discussed and then denied it was because I was Jewish. I scooted in so that may be my exercise for now.

Happleandhorange · 23/01/2026 02:03

I'm definitely not going to try to go to gym today. Stomach issues, which are obviously a result of the interview disaster. Meh.

BezMills · 23/01/2026 04:33

That's grim about the interview ffs. Gaslighted for dessert too.

I ended up not training at all, but did my job and the school runs, laundry fed the bairn and got packed for the weekend.

Away up to Scotland. Planning to climb at the uni gym in Edinburgh then probably some weightlifting. Saturday nothing planned then BodyCombat and possibly gym again on Sunday.

FurForksSake · 23/01/2026 08:07

@Happleandhorange can you make a complaint? That sounds horrendous.

Yesterday was hydrotherapy, I really breasted myself for 45 minutes.

Upper body workout with sets of 5kg weights.

One set of 11 for side raises; two sets of 8.
3 sets of 10 for double biceps curls.
2 sets of 15 for single low rows; one set of 10.

45 minute senior flex class. Used 3.75kg weights for the upper body exercises; heaviest bands for upper and lower body; then chair leg stretches with heaviest bands plus 3.75kg weight for each leg.

Workout also included cardio plus stretches.

Evening walk - only brisk walking for quarter of a mile.

Bloody hell. Blatant discrimination.

Lampzade · 23/01/2026 22:45

45 mins in my walking pad
Callanetics - 60mins
lift- 15 mins

Alittlefrustrated · 23/01/2026 23:10

4 mile walk
17/300

Happleandhorange · 24/01/2026 00:14

Feeling much better today but car battery is dead and nothing can be done until Monday. I will have to scoot or cycle to gym and am not sure about that.

WearyAuldWumman · 24/01/2026 02:24

I used he heaviest band in class today. The instructor did not.

My shoulders are killing me and my legs aren't too happy otherwise. I'll learn one of those days.

BezMills · 24/01/2026 10:11

Yesterday met up with an old Uni friend and went to the shiny new climbing wall at the Edinburgh uni sports centre. I haven't climbed for oh about 25 years!

Wasn't too bad to be fair. I stuck to the easy stuff. Definitely suffered from almost complete skill fade and how to put this, there's considerably more of me to drag up the wall, but my grip wasn't too bad thanks to all the crossfits.
I enjoyed it but maybe not as much as I thought I would!

Currently sat in the back of a wee pub in Leven. There's a bar full of old boys drinking lager at 10am and they serve breakfast down the back room. I'm here for the breakfast, just to be clear!

WearyAuldWumman · 24/01/2026 13:02

Hope you're having fun in Fife, @BezMills . Looks oot windae and haes her doots.

Was that one of the ex-military breakfast clubs, I wonder? re-reads Ah, no. The worthies were only in the bar. (There's a monthly Breakfast Club at Leuchars and a weekly one at Orebank Cafe in Lochore.)

That'll be like the time DH and I checked out Wee Jimmy's in Cowdenbeath for possible accommodation for relatives. DH had briefly worked as a bouncer in Aberdeen, but even he was astonished at the sight that greeted us that morning.

"C'mon oot o' here..." Then "There were some troglodytes in there that hadna seen daylight since 1966!"

I'm told that the Levenmouth Leisure centre isn't bad, though it's small. There was supposed to be a climbing wall in Lochgelly, but the build was only halfway completed and there were difficulties. All hope went up in flames when some wee scrotes set fire to the adjoining building last year.

The Carnegie Centre in Dunfermline does have a climbing wall, but I don't know how good it is.

In the meantime, I'm trying to figure how it is possible that doing seated auld wifie exercises with a band has left my stomach and shoulders in agony.

The instructor made a smiling comment about not risking more than the red band...She knew!
