Ten minutes on the exercise bike and my physio exercises. Very sore today, so I’m pleased I managed anything.

Yesterday was my first Boxercise class after the break. Had 10 people, well pleased! I gave them a nice easy first round, then some techniques in round two.
Round three I put on my Bastard Trainer Hat and made them do 30s squats then 30s flat out punching. Twice. Bwa ha ha.
I stupidly joined in, but did slightly terrify the lad holding pads with my expressionless Punching Face while punching the hell out of his pads.
Then I let them off leg conditioning (yay) but made them do plank (boo). Which I stupidly joined in with.

We finished off as always with a BodyCombat track and then a nice cool down. I really felt it, and that just shows you how fit they are, because I didn't even do even half of what they did!

Crossfits today and I smashed it. I got the deadlift 1RM that I knew was in there (was thwarted by lurgae in the last attempt).

It felt really hard but technically sound, no back pain at all, just grr argh, pause at the top to admire my work, then clang as I dropped the bar.

Then we had the workout still to do, which honestly felt like being at school and thinking it's the last period but then you realise there's one more to go. And it's maths.

The workout was 50s sit ups, 50s shuttle runs and 50s double dumbbell floor to shoulders. Three times. I felt bloody knackered after that!

I'll sleep the sleep of the just tonight.

I appear to have gone backwards in some respects. I'm hoping that it might be the new gym equipment, but I think that it's more to do with not getting my regular workouts during the December refurbishment and holiday closures.

Only managed a brief walking treadmill warm-up and it's taking me all my time to get up to 4 kph. I was doing 6 kph in November.

It took me ages to set up the leg curl machine. In the end, I did 3 sets of 10 at 19kg. (The increments on the new machines seem really weird.)

Stretch class today was all floor work. 30 minutes.

FurForksSake · 06/01/2026 19:42

@WearyAuldWumman it’s always disheartening when you lose progress, but hopefully it will come back soon enough. Remember how much progress you’ve made and how much good it’ll have done you.

Placestogo · 06/01/2026 20:35

I have joined a gym! I will go tomorrow for the first time… i want to do everything! Classes, weight, pool…. 😅
but i have only 2hrs max incl shower…. Lets see

Alittlefrustrated · 06/01/2026 21:12

6.7 mile walk
3/300
Quite pleased with that - feel like I'm creeping back to normality.

Happleandhorange · 07/01/2026 05:20

@BezMills you sound like a terrifying teacher! Well done @FurForksSake and @Alittlefrustrated - normality sounds great to me. @WearyAuldWumman speed will come back with practice I'm sure.

Happleandhorange · 07/01/2026 05:22

I did Pilates today with friend, followed by Dance. Dance was a bit meh, I would have liked more freedom to be creative. Perhaps I need to do some solo dance at home :-)

My yoga indoctrination continues. We went to a class last night and I did pigeon pose. My legs would like to file a complaint to head of Yoga Management.

a start is a start! Great work getting in for the first time.

Crossfits again today, luckily not too much overlap with yesterday, for which I am veh grateful

Today we were doing wall walk (start in down dog with feet at base of wall, then walk your feet up and hands in until you're in a full handstand with toes touching the wall). It's quite tough, as you can imagine! The workout was row for 30 cal (about 3 minutes at a decent clip for me) then 24 lunges holding a dumbell, then 8 wall walks. Rinse and repeat until the 20 minutes timer runs out. I really felt it, and am very happy to have a rest day tomorrow!

Happleandhorange · 07/01/2026 17:27

@Placestogo sounds a great workout.

Alittlefrustrated · 07/01/2026 21:03

55 mins pilates class
90 mins Qigong class
4/300

WearyAuldWumman · 07/01/2026 21:19

45 mins Senior Flex class - triceps extension, biceps curls, side raises, seated triceps row with two 3.5kg weights; wall push-ups, cardio, sit-to-stand with weights, stretches.

45 mins Active for Life - cardio, abdominal side bends and twist with 6kg weight, leg extensions across both planes with bands.

Today I did 13,000 steps and swam / bodysurfed in wild waters on West Coast. It was a fabulous daytrip with good friends and it felt momentous because it is a place I love and they'd never been. Also hoisted kayak on and off car several times although never actually used it. I'm counting it as a workout since I am nearly dead. Got in a quick charcoal sketch too.

Crumbs you’ve been busy !

Alittlefrustrated · 08/01/2026 19:07

60 mins Fitflow class 🥵 First try - basically 60 mins very fast and complicated aerobic dance class. Nearly killed me but loved it!
5/300.
Your day sounds fantastic Happleandhorange!

FurForksSake · 08/01/2026 19:10

@Happleandhorange that sounds amazing!

I’ve been to see the consultant. 12 months before I am back to doing things I want to and another month before I start a long phased return at work.

Just home from a tough hydrotherapy session, very sore and tired now but pleased I’m done.

I have physio in the morning but it’s sleeting outside and I’m not sure how that’ll be in the morning!

Happleandhorange · 09/01/2026 06:14

Gosh @FurForksSake that is a long haul. I hope the time goes fast for you.

I decided to try a single jump in dance class a few days ago and the arch of my good foot did not like it one bit. I have been icing and heating. So today I did same dance class but walk-through for 20 minutes, then went on exercise bike. Really hoping I haven't done any damage. It's always bloody something, isn't it?
On plus side, I am finally getting some strength in upper arms now shoulder is letting me do weights.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 08:43

@Happleandhorange your poor foot, I hope it’s improving!

I’m sat in my car waiting to go to physio. I appear to have really hurt both shoulders and upper arms at hydro and haven’t slept well at all.

Happleandhorange · 09/01/2026 19:35

Oh that's grim, @FurForksSake . I am waiting for taxi to go and get my foot xrayed as last night it was far worse.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 19:40

Oh no! Hope it isn’t broken, or at least it’s a tiny stress fracture and they can give you a nice boot!

physio was good and my shoulders have settled, he tells me it’s my rotator cuffs and they’ll settle which they have a bit.

im counting my physio session as my exercise today.

How annoying to be afflicted so early in the new year!

Crossfits today, was one of those meh ones. Even my sports watch was unimpressed! The whole class was about the 'snatch' which is a super technical Olympic lift. Barbell from floor to overhead in one complicated heave. I haven't really got it right, although it's getting there.

So the workout was supposed to be high volume do loads of reps (8 at a time, 10 rounds) and I was like yeah nah. I took my damn time and did 3 each round and massively sandbagged the almost inevitable burpees too. Instead of bouncing about like a spaniel on red bull (which is what is expected) I did like half the reps and took my damn time!

Overall I didn't mind as I got like dozens of quality intentional reps in, it just wasn't a very energetic session.

Alittlefrustrated · 09/01/2026 22:29

Had niece's dog today, so had a good walk but forgot to take my phone or wear my tracker.
Still counting it.
6!300

Happleandhorange · 09/01/2026 22:38

Back from hospital. I did the right thing by going early, no one was there so it was quick.
I haven't broken anything which is good. No idea why it is so sore - it doesn't feel like plantar fascia which I have had in past. Anyway, have nice open toed support shoe and advice to see physio. And codeine. And no hiking.

FurForksSake · 10/01/2026 10:03

Great that it’s not broken! But boo to the rest.

I did ten minutes on my exercise bike while watching iPlayer last night. I’m going tl try 15 minutes this afternoon.
