I had to wait in all day because an appliance was being delivered. On the plus side, I got lots of strength training in shifting everything around my kitchen!

WearyAuldWumman · 12/11/2025 12:49

Thank you so much for all this @BezMills .

Yes, I remember Cynthia Rothrock well - DH was into martial arts. He took up karate when he was in his late 50s in order to regain fitness. He had to have a year out when it turned out that he needed a stent.

In his 60s, he got into the Courier, cos when the sensei phoned the paper with the grading results for that year, he always gave the age of the recipient of the belt - usually a teenager.

When it came to the black belts and he read out DH's age, the chap at the other end said "We're sending a photographer!"

They got DH to line up with the teen black belts and the photographer said "Now...Let's see one of those overhead kicks!"

DH replied "I'll tell you what the sensei told me when I said that I was worried that I couldn't get my leg up that high: 'If you want tae kick someone in the heid, kick their kneecap and get them when they're on the ground!'"

BezMills · 12/11/2025 15:18

That's amazing! I used to deliver the Courier on my paper round. My gran read it but we were a Daily Record hoose (dad was ex Glasgow)

BitOutOfPractice · 12/11/2025 15:32

Hello all. I’ve been awol with one thing or another the last few days but still keeping on

sat: 1 hour strength trainibg
sun: run and a Long walk as the weather was lovely
mon: pt session
tues: a walk and yoga
weds (today): run

Today’s guided run was tough. Lots of sprinting!

sorry to hear you are struggling @stilldumdedumming. I hope things are calmer soon.

@BezMills you might have tempted me to give bc a try!

BitOutOfPractice · 12/11/2025 15:40

Oh except I’ve just looked for class and my Gym doesn’t do body combat any more

Oh, it was the Record for us when I was a bairn. I think Dad only read the sports pages; Mum read the rest.

I once won a table tennis set for a Christmas poem I wrote. I was over the moon - I was only a runner up.

WearyAuldWumman · 12/11/2025 17:37

Just finished Senior flex. Puffed out. Lots of free weights for arms and cardio consisted of punching whilst drumming feet.

Alittlefrustrated · 12/11/2025 21:37

1 hr pilates class
90 mins qigong - though 20 mins was sitting down/meditation.

WearyAuldWumman · 12/11/2025 22:41

1 hr Active for Life class. Affected by the refurbishment, but did 4 min bike warm-up, 2 sets of 14 dead bugs; yoga ball-sliding-down-wall (no idea of proper name) ;leg extensions, curls and press.

Was informed by trainer that I've been resting for a second between leg presses instead of doing ti continuously. There was I thinking that I was doing it correctly by returning slowly. Ah well.

Happleandhorange · 13/11/2025 03:28

Today was neurophysio, which was hideous again. I have only walked 1000 steps and I feel used up.
Tomorrow is a new day.

BezMills · 13/11/2025 07:01

@Happleandhorange I think people really underestimate how tiring it can be doing that sort of thing. Just take it easy and recover.

Yesterday I got our Crossfit gym a mention on BBC Radio 1 - the boss was over the moon bless him. The workout was sled push and sled pull, burpee and jumps then ski erg. I was paired with the huge lad, which I'll take as a compliment and I shouldn't complain. I'm always saying I like to work with people that are stronger than me, so I guess I mustn't grumble.

It was rough, I was toasted at halfway - well past the point where it would be "job done go home" if I was training on my own. Then we did the same thing again which was a bit gruelling but not as hard as I expected. It helped that we had the exercises in that order - hardest to easiest.

Later on it was my Boxercise class. Just one turned up, same as last Weds. I lose money on those (I only break even at about 4 or 5 tickets) but it's good for me as a coach to do 1-1 and really practice teaching the details rather than having loads of people and doing rather superficial coaching.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/11/2025 07:26

@BezMills i think the weather and dark Really starts affecting how many people want to go out and exercise.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 13/11/2025 12:01

Biblical rain here yesterday (and forecast for tomorrow again) so I missed my run. S&c this morning.

Hope you have a good rest today Happle.

5.5 mile woodland walk (NT) in the rain, with a friend.
Wonderful bonus of the rain, was that it was so quiet, that we saw loads more wildlife than usual. 2 deer, loads of squirrels and birds that we don't normally see.

Struggling on!
my walking distance and speed are abysmal despite my knee healing pretty well. It’s frustrating. New car on Monday.

Tuesday was hard core core.
wednesday - hippy yoga.
today was 80x 25m swim. - did the first 60 in 35 minutes so pretty pleased with that. The walk to and from the bus stop absolutely did me in!

Placestogo · 14/11/2025 09:54

An hour in my own “gym” treadmill and one upper body calesthenics video…. I think i can do a small pushup!!! 🎉

@Placestogo a pushup is a powerful move, well done!

Placestogo · 15/11/2025 11:04

20 mins treadmill and 30 mins calisthenic leg workput from growingananas - first day of my period too, i am shattered!

FurForksSake · 15/11/2025 11:29

I had a big hip reconstruction surgery yesterday (avoiding the replacement one op at a time). I’ve ordered an exercise bike from Amazon. Does anyone have any YouTube recommendations for indoor cycling videos? I’ve got to start in a few days with five minutes with no resistance, but I’m hoping I can continue with it in the long term. The bike has a holder for my iPad so I thought it might be good to have some videos or something to use while I’m on it.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 15/11/2025 17:01

Best of luck with your recovery FurForksSake Flowers I feel bad moaning about my shoulder now! The physio is concerned that it is getting worse despite my actually doing my homework so it's off to the specialist and a big needle as the next step. And I'm really sore after what she did to me!

It finally stopped raining at lunchtime so ds and I had a gentle run in case it starts again.

Healing vibes to all of us that need it!
I battled to the gym on Friday and the class was cancelled so we managed to do our own thing for 45 minutes.

Had another walk today - god, it’s hard! And an upper body workout at home.
I get a new car next week and I cannot wait to get back to my normal schedule!

Happleandhorange · 16/11/2025 07:25

Well done for surviving the operation, @FurForksSake . I do hope convalescence is easy.

My shoulder was giving a lot of trouble this week as well as the hideous neurophysio so took a complete gym break for five days to try to let it settle. Went back today. Treadmill walking is not hurting knee or ankle, did half an hour which is just amazing. Ski erg seems to be suiting arms, so I am going to stick with that for a couple of weeks and try not to irritate anything until I've seen physio.

I think 59.

Happleandhorange · 16/11/2025 07:27

No! 60!

Comtesse · 16/11/2025 18:30

Still going. My SI joint is bothering me on one side so did a yin yoga video then had a little nap in shivasana - lovely!

FurForksSake · 16/11/2025 18:38

I did two minutes on my new (not expensive) spin bike. Aim for three for tomorrow. The pedals hurt my feet so I need to put my trainers on tomorrow.

I also need to get my physio exercises started. I’ve been doing foot pumps and muscle squeezes as instructed but probably need to do a tiny bit more.

I’ve found that my shoulder has improved after doing some really small resistance band exercises.
