Crossfits yesterday, I'm giving it a mixed review. It was a gymnastics move I've needed to learn for ages so was really anticipating it.

Sadly I seem to fall between two stools. I can't actually do the thing (or at least I've never had the opportunity to try), but I'm strong enough to have a good go without a box. Long story short, busy class, got sent down the beginner end, got zero coaching so just had a go and seemed to manage the thing maybe once. But since I had no coaching I actually have no idea what I did or what I might work on next time.
Then the workout was in pairs doing 90(!) Wall Balls, 60 leg raises, 30 burpees over box.
It was quite fun and I had the zoomies on the burpees, flying over the box and flinging myself in and out of the burpee. but this apparently attracted the ire of a nearby Serious About CROSS Fit type. When I stumbled on tired legs and clattered my thigh on the box, she said "see, that's why we don't do that!". Luckily one of my spectrum superpowers is blindness to social cues like dirty looks etc so I just carried on a bit more carefully.
I don't want to be "that person" and as an instructor myself I have to keep an eye out that people are safe, so have to consider that maybe I was a bit hyper and transgressed the movement rules, but since the one instructor didn't say anything, who knows. Shrug lol.

Hot yoga class with DP. Unusually it was an easy class… for once DP is coming… he is never going to believe me now when i come home shattered because the instructor pushed the class - Not Fair!

Jeffing for 29min today - nice sunny day, make the most of it. Furthest I have run for several years - glad to see pelvic floor seems to be in better shape!

stilldumdedumming · 08/11/2025 20:33

I walked 2.5 miles today. In fits and starts. It’s not much but given that I can’t get to the pool it seems a good opportunity to try to get walking again. But my body suffered and I did 30 mins or so of intuitive yoga.
I am banking it!

Couldn't get booked in for Pilates today. There was a swimming gala on, so the pool was out and the gym is chaotic because the main gym is closing on Monday for 5 weeks. Aaaargh!

Guess I can still do my dead bugs at home. I'm booked in for Pilates on Monday. Shall see what the restricted facilities are like. We're being urged to use facilities in other council gyms.

Happleandhorange · 09/11/2025 05:01

@BezMills , I reckon if instructor didn't say anything it can't have been that bad.

Made it back to gym today - but foolishly went to city centre one. Where there is no airconditioning. I nearly blinking died (the weather has, gone straight from endless winter to high summer). Did three little cardio blips of five minutes each, and someone then stole my waterbottle when I left it by the weights as I was waving tiny dumbbells around feebly! Gave up and went for walk around the block instead.

Had a bit of a flare up of arthritis, so this week hasn't been my norm. Also need to replace my Wed/Sat dance with something else, as they are finished, until January.
Managed 3.2 mile walk Fri

Mysteriously went from hobbling yesterday, and not leaving the house, to being back to normal today, so managed my Line Dancing Fitness class. She works you hard and fast!

Hot yoga class

stilldumdedumming · 09/11/2025 20:59

I am struggling in a number of ways. Still no transport so my schedule is off. I am also having some pretty severe issues with the kids and grandkids. So I am here to keep turning up for movement and to increase my step count where possible (which is exhausting)

Saturday was 3 miles to and around the hospital with dgs
Today wa just 1 mile but I also did physio. 💪

Happleandhorange · 09/11/2025 22:11

Step count is great work in the circs, dumdedumming. Well done.

BezMills · 10/11/2025 07:38

It's so difficult when life gets in the way!

Gods laugh when people dare to plan gym sessions.

The Crossfit gym has probably too many people at the moment, it's a nice problem for the gym to have (lots of fees coming in and busy classes for the vibes) but not as nice for people who are trying to book into the sessions that suit them. So far I've managed to train when I want pretty much 100% of the time, but it's been squeaky bum waiting list a couple of times. I don't really love the feeling of competing with my fellow gymsters for class slots to be quite honest. But it is what it is - I love the gym to be successful and for the owners to be making money.

My class is going to get like that soon, with a bit of luck. There are worse problems to have than 'wah wah my class is too popular'!

Comtesse · 10/11/2025 10:29

V poor behaviour to pinch your water bottle @Happleandhorange

Yin yoga this morning. Weighted myself too - down another kg. Keep on keeping on!

Happleandhorange · 10/11/2025 17:49

Good gym session yesterday. Back to the suburbs and air-conditioning!!!!
I found a lovely earring in the changing rooms and handed it in sold it online for millions .

FurForksSake · 10/11/2025 17:55

Hydro therapy today, I was doing spotty dogs in the water and very active, I’ll pay tomorrow!

Alittlefrustrated · 10/11/2025 19:31

6 mile walk am
Pilates 1 hr tonight - I've never heard so much moaning and groaning in a class 🤣

WearyAuldWumman · 10/11/2025 19:59

Made it to Pilates - only 45 minutes for our class. I'm definitely getting bendier.

Couldn't get into the gym because of the refurbishment programme. Apparently, we'll have limited facilities from Wednesday. The full gym doesn't re-open until December.

BezMills · 11/11/2025 07:19

how annoying about the gym closure @WearyAuldWumman hopefully there's another one nearby. I found the cooncil gyms up in Kirkintilloch area really good whenever I visited.

They've given us a list of possibilities. I spoke to the wifies at the counter and they've confirmed that Kirkcaldy is good...but has no parking! Looks like it's a toss-up between Cowdenbeath and Leven.

BezMills · 11/11/2025 11:59

Is that the new one in Glenrothes they've closed? I was in there two or three times last year. It's really nice

Yes, the Michael Woods. They’re extending the gym into one of the studios. They’re bringing in extra equipment.

I’ve just had my Stretch class in the downstairs Pilates studio.

Getting lunch in the cafe. Wondered about trying Cowdenbeath’s gym but it’s really dark outside - wet and gloomy.

BezMills · 11/11/2025 14:44

Aha I think I did BodyCombat in that studio! Cathy is a brilliant instructor.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/11/2025 17:16

i quite fancy trying BodyCombat, but I don't think I'm fit enough. Mind you, I'm getting more flexible each time I do Pilates or Stretch.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 11/11/2025 18:17

I've managed to get in the sea three days since I last posted. S&c this evening but I could only do 3 of the 8 parts of the workout, shoulder is getting very bothersome.

I think you'd be fine to try out BodyCombat.

My class when I ran it, had a wide range of people - lots in their 60s and 70s and even G who was 82. I think I gave similar advice to @Happleandhorange , to just take it super easy and see if you enjoy the atmosphere and the feeling of throwing hands and feet.

It is a true mixed ability class and it is accessible for complete beginners if you just go easy and keep the kicks low (knee height max). Worth booking it once and coming early and have a chat with the instructor at the start (if it's Cathy she's amazing, one of the most experienced BC instructors in the UK actually). You might find it's a bit hectic or a bit too much, that's fine if you do, but you might find it's amazing and you want to keep going. Good luck!

There will be people in there who have been doing BC with Cathy for actual years, some of whom are moving like Cynthia Rothrock (who remembers her?) , they are doing them and I love to see it. I love being in a class with people who are on the next level or beyond, I find it inspiring but just need to remember to enjoy being me and working in my capability.
